Except iOS 5 is a software upgrade that iP4 will get along with iCloud.

and a "fixed" antenna design is not a feature

I am not sure what all the fuss is about? We should thank Apple for giving us iPhone 4 owners more time to enjoy our phones, get a free upgrade to a new OS, and be ready to get a subsidized iPhone 5 when it comes out next year! At least now I won't have any iPhone envy:)

I know that is software upgrade but it heals the high expectations on what we expected for the new iPhone.

Fixed antenna design is not a feature.. yes.. but it's still something I wanted to bring up as it is something people wanted fix for a long time.

Im really surprised that the 4S has a worse battery life (WIFI-Standby) than the 4 and no 1GB ram.

Sucks, leaving iPhone for the first time since 07.

Yep. And Siri will be pretty baked by then. Win for everyone, 4 and 4S users! And none for 3GS.

I saw that, standby down by 100 hours!, Siri will be listening all the time. and specs show Siri only on 4S.
4S makes sense, I had no idea the 4 was still in super high demand, only an idiot would throw out a production model still in such demand. not to mention how long it would take to get a new production up and running, look how long it took for iPad2.
apple will probably need more land in SC, not for servers but for vaults.

Amen to that! My only concern if the Apps I currently own get updated and not work on the iPhone 4. Is there some kind of protection built in so the latest working apps stay compatible with our phones? Just have to keep them running another 12-14 more months!

Please do not attempt to justify the ball Apple just dropped by telling me people will buy them anyway. Phone sale metrics are no excuse for Apple to degenerate into AAPL. The Apple I fell in love with is never complacent, always innovating. I don't care about their market size -- I care about imagination. And today we got greeting cards.

As a 3GS owner, I've admittedly been coveting the iPhone 4 design. And while I'm sure I'd like a 4S better than my 3GS, I'm sick of being stuck in the 'S'-cycle swamp. Apple wasted SIX MONTHS of my upgrade cycle only to release a phone that's already outdated. If iPhone 2G customers upgraded to a 3GS after two years, why should 3GS customers have to upgrade to a 4S in 2.5 years?

The 4S MIGHT have been an acceptable upgrade back in June. But Apple really needed to introduce a larger, higher quality screen size today. I neither want nor expect a complete redesign every year, but I'm also dissatisfied with a bezel that wastes a full third of the front of my phone. I also find it arrogant that Apple let demand build and hype escalate, only to show up late and unprepared. How can they justify phoning in their most highly anticipated product after 1.5 years of lead time and ~50B in cash on hand? Because people will buy them anyway? That's insulting and unwise.

I predict that Apple is going to be forced to release the phone consumers expected today no later than June 2012. The 4S is already behind the curve; I doubt investors will tolerate such a lazy release cycle moving forward. The 4S might sell like hotcakes, but such an uninspiring showing after an unnecessarily long wait may have damaged the brand. Today might teach consumers not to get their hopes up for Apple products. I'm not ready for Android (shudder), so for now I'm praying that my 3GS will last until WWDC. In the meantime, I hope Apple stops wasting capital trying to ban competing products and gets back to work.

Dude, this should be a full page add in the Wall Street Journal! The Apple faithful should demand an apology for the 4s.

The antenna issue is fixed.

Huge improvement with camera

iOS 5 and assistant

Big spec update

iCloud

new apps

ect..

Never experience the Antenna issue.

Yea the Camera upgrade is nice, especially being that the iPhone already takes good pics. The iPhone has been a great camera phone since it's first release.

iOS5 is a good step towards greatness. I'm still not impressed with Assistant. That's something I'll have to try out to really judge. I also REALLY NOT impressed that the drag down notifications isn't available on the lock screen. What was Apple thinking with that one? They better fix that in a update soon.

Yea the spec update is sweet.

iCloud is as easy as is comes. It already seems smoother than MobileMe, especially the calendar sync.

I do like reminder, Newsstand doesn't seem to be active yet.

Really has nothing to do with the hardware unless the application has specific features designed only for the new phone. So long as you keep your iP4 reasonably up to date ( EX.. 4.2.1 or higher ) you're fine.

I just can't believe what i read.
Can't you guys see the masterplan. Apple always has a masterplan....

The moment he said iPhone 4S i thought "man these guys are geniuses and planning an atomic blow, not just a big blow, a colossal one"

Try to guess: we'll see if someone gets it.

Ok so i see a lot of you don't get it.
Apple has a strategy. Or else if you always keep the same pattern from year to year other companies will be able to predict and adjust righT????

Ok so here it is: The next big blow by Apple.

Releasing iPhone 5 and iPad 3 the same day. And that's it.

You got you lines back in front of store.
Matter fact lines will be record braking. And apple revenues also.

Any company can't come with a revolutionary product each 12 months.

iphone 5 + iPad 3 same day = dynamite!!!

The iPhone4S is a major letdown of epic proportions. After 16 months they release a new phone in the same case, with the same dimensions, the same small screen, the same thickness ( actually slightly heavier now ), minor OS updates that should have been there in iOS3, no 4G, no 4" display, no LED Notification Light.

Not trying to be rude, but is Apple for real here ? Or is it April Fools, and they will announce the real iPhone5 tomorrow, because I just can't believe that Apple spent 16 months, with the biggest gap between iPhone release in history, just on this minor spec'd bump iPhone4S, it does not make sense. There has to be some secret story to what happened to the "true" iPhone5 none of us know about ?

Are people really citing this as a dealbreaker?

Yes, that's the only thing I read.

Clearly... Don't worry, its ok to admit apple dropped the ball. They'll still let you buy their products at the same time and price as everyone else.

Never heard of that model.

The 4GS will be next years model that will be identical to the 4s except it'll have 4G LTE ;)

For the first time I don't have upgrade fever...call me $200 richer. I can't see the 4S touching 4 numbers for sales.

This isn't so much of a minuscule upgrade. They focused hard on hardware especially the camera and the features it comes with. They now made the iPhone a stand alone camera for most people. It was a stand along camera with the iPhone 4 for some people but now with the iPhone 4S we will see more using it as there one and only camera.

The antenna issue is fixed.

They came out with a lot of things that are really great.

The next iPhone will probably have the larger screen, new redesign, improved specs and camera once again.

I always felt that the 6th generation was going to be the "BIG" one. The iPhone 4 was the "BIG" update from the 3GS, do you really expect another huge update after the iPhone 4?

Anyways I am happy with the iPhone 4S and will be purchasing it and selling off my iPhone 4.

I'm wondering about the antenna. It has the same exact antenna as the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4. So what did they fix? Or was the fix software, meaning they can also fix Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 (if they have the antenna problem)?

Camera... yes, I am astounded by it. Looks very clear, and the 1080p recording is definitely enticing.

A5 chip... very interesting. But isn't iPhone 4's CPU adequate? My 3GS's processor still handles iOS 4 like a charm. I feel like if you added RAM to iPhone 4, you'd be fine.

Assistant... I have had the Siri app for over 2 years, and I've only used it for maybe a month. It got tiring and boring real soon, and real fast. It'll be interesting if people keep using Assistant even after a month.

iOS 5 apps... those are common across all the current iPhones, and that includes iCloud support as well.

All in all, iPhone 4S = Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 w/A5 chip and 8MP camera.

I'm not surprised on Apple's move. Apple has always been about making the 'experience' better. The iPhone 4 design has only been out just over 15 months and has since been incredibly popular. A new design would of been too early, if they're following how they released the 3g and 3gs. Naturally, there will be disappointments, especially with Android coming out left and right with newer and bigger spec smart phones almost every month. But, that is what Apple is NOT about. They set their own pace and believe in making the BEST all around smart phone. People who bought into the iPhone 5 'hype' rumors WILL now go to Android or Windows latest creations, because they feel the NEED to get the 'latest and greatest' flavor of the month.

I've been a Mac user for over a decade, so I'm now fully entrenched in the Apple ecosystem. I will continue to support the iPhone 4(s) because for me, it 'just works' sooo well and more than satisfies my needs. I can wait for the new 'redesign' iPhone 5 in 2012, which will now probably be spring or early summer. Just in time when my AT&T contract is up ;):apple:
