You mean the gorilla glass?

No. That's what Apple would want you to believe while selling cheap no-name chinese glass. Here is a quote from Engadget: "According to Chinese newspaper 21st Century Business Herald, the problem stems from a little-known Chinese factory by the name of Lens Technology, which is apparently responsible for transforming fine raw glass into the majority of iPhone glass panels out there (and contrary to previous reports, there's no mention of Corning here). "

Full article is here with a drawing of the aforementioned chinese factory.

Apple needs to be concerned, these days it is the geeks like us who make or break a product.

I am so dismayed, the keynote was like a million dreams shattering to pieces. :(

No it isn't. It's the tens of millions of normal people who buy them. And seriously? A million dreams shattering to pieces? It's a phone. Get some perspective.

If history has taught us anything about Apple, it is that they're going to release whatever the hell they want, and you can choose to come along or not. But they're still going to be making money hand over fist because their customer base consists of a lot more than us tech geeks who get so riled up over screen size, RAM, and GHz. They've never been obsessed with having the biggest and fastest devices on the market, so why does this come as such a shock to some of you?

+1,000,000

There are a scary amount of those geeks with a hugely inflated sense of entitlement. And they appear to all be on this forum. I've said it already, either buy it or don't, but please stop with the list of demands.

If Apple release the iPhone on 4G today, what network would you go with?
I would go with Apple. I would actually give 4S a shot if it actually had 4G network, since I have 3GS. But like apple gives a flying **** about their consumers, right? Their mindset is still stuck with their initial success with their previous iphones, they aren't thinking forward.

The decision made by apple today will be a huge benefit for companies like Samsung and HTC.

Apple COMPLETELY blew it. Same exact design, no 4G (not even HSPA+), small screen. I'm so disappointed. My Sprint Galaxy S II is on it's way :)

Hi there.

I think Iphone 4s is nice, I dont care about a new design, maybe a 4 inch screen could have been really nice... But well Iphone 4 design is a great design anyway and new cpu and camera improvements are great

What Im worried about is with Apple policy on hardware and software compatibility... I mean, what do Iphone 4 users think about they wont be able to use the new Assistent feature? Or Ipad 2 users? As I know my Ipad 2 got same A5 cpu, right? So I dont think its a hardware issue

Now Im a Nokia 5800 user and I need to upgrade my phone... So I dont know if upgrading to Iphone 4s will mean that in next June they will upgrade to Iphone 5 and making Iphone 4s gets obsolete for new software features

Im sorry for my spelling and grammar mistakes

Stock is already falling. Investors are pissed with apple's announcement of an half-ass phone.

Go ahead. Be denial about it. Let apple and fanboys dream on until reality comes crashing down in future.

I see how people can be disappointed... But it has the same specs and according to apple is faster than the next best thing on AT&T which is the galaxy s II.

According to Apple their desktop and laptops have the fastest video speeds around also, but we all know that's nonsense.

You will be in a very small group of people! Lucky for you... no lines!

As someone who has stood in line for apple products before, i certainly wouldn't waste my time doing it this time around.

And i believe that more than a small group of people will be going android.
I will probably be one of them soon.

I love my ipad 2 and my Imac 27 and my Apple tv2, but my ip4 is behind the times.

I'm sorry, but internals don't impress me at this point to the extent that they should. I hate the iPhone 4 design. The flat back (made of glass that cracks) pisses me off enough. I would have forked out a wad of cash for a bigger screen. I needed something to persuade me to upgrade from the 4. This just isn't a significant upgrade. We'll have another year (or 16 months) to bitch about it.

I think Apple is so concerned about keeping their unreleased products hidden that they don't change the designs too crazily. ****. Us loyal folks want something new. We read rumors all year only to get let down.

I'm happy with my 4. I don't need to upgrade. I work in a library. I can't talk to Siri all day.

And keeping the 3.5 inch screen...that's ********. That is entirely Apple appeasing the app developers by not fragmenting the marketplace with multiple screen resolutions, choosing app profits over satisfying customers. For every one person posting that they are "satisfied" with the 3.5 inch screen, there are 10 or 20 screaming for more screen realestate.

Agreed. But they could have gone with a 4.3" or 4.5" OLED screen at a lower DPI but identical resolution and been fine. No need to retool anything on the developer's side.

Amen to that

Global markets has been falling for days because of Greece default fears, so this is not a good time to say if the fall is because of the market or because of iPhone 4S...

I think 4" is perfect for 960x540, more than that they need to up the resolution, low resolution screens should be abolished, that's why I hate SGS2 "super 4.3" low resolution screen... Soon Android phones are going to have 720p displays, that's a gorgeous resolution for 4.3-4.5 screens!

Apple needs to be concerned, these days it is the geeks like us who make or break a product.

I am so dismayed, the keynote was like a million dreams shattering to pieces. :(

You mean like when the iPad was released, and all the geeks and the tech press could do was whinge about how disappointing it was that it couldn't run Mac apps, that it was just a big iPhone, etc etc etc? Then regular people saw it and they sold 30 million of them.

It's the same thing every time. The press and the message boards whip each other into a frenzied circlejerk of rumormongering. The event happens and everyone howls about what a giant disappointment the new thing is. Then Apple sells millions and millions of whatever it is that they just unveiled. Rinse, repeat.

Apple doesn't sell products to people who care about specs anymore.

i see cheapo pc's with 'better' specs than much more expensive macs. which run better, faster, smoother?

The PCs... if you want a true comparison install OS X on those cheap PCs and watch them run rings around the Macs.

Did you even watch the keynote? I bet you didn't...

Lets see:
-Browsing on par with 4G speeds from a 3G phone.
-Amazing power and great battery life.
-Siri is honestly cool (which is funny because I thought I'd never use it).
-New and improved camera.
-New iOS

How is that not a good improvement? How did Apple blow it? I hope you realize technology doesn't evolve as fast as Macrumors readers think it does.

People expect too much. If you want something amazingly better go invent it.

Well said,
and for all those people saying "im going to android" go ahead no one is stopping you but $100 says you will return

Apple has become a sort of lifestyle which they display greatly in their commercials. This is what sells the iPhone to common users. I just saw the Siri commercial and it looks really great in this Apple is the competion far ahead.

Besides it's a great phone Apple has used it to turn it into a lifestyle and as long the lifestyle speaks to peoples imagination the iphone will sell greatly. No matter if the iphone changes shape or not.

You expect there to be some type of reaction like that to an identical iPhone? It's nothing but a refresh and not comparable to the release of the iPad which was a tablet computer (a category which Apple did not have at the time).

I bet other companies wish they would blow it like you claim Apple supposedly blew it. We heard the same thing from rabbid fans when the 3GS came out. This new iPhone will sell just as well as previous iPhones. There will be lines just as before. Lots of people who are coming off 2 year contracts have the 3G or 3GS iPhone, so for them this will be a huge upgrade.

this.

ive had a 3g for 3yrs now with it on its last legs so even though its alittle disapointing that there isnt some shiny fancy new design the 4s will still be a HUGE upgrade over what i got now.

ive tried my friends android phone before duno which one there is a million but pretty new and i honestly wasnt that impressed just something wasnt right felt clunky ios5 looks pretty good and like they say it just works.

apple's not perfect but its still better than most everything else out there atm
