I saw this one coming.
It's why I've been posting the reasons I had no interest in the upcoming model and was NOT buying one. For the first time since the release of the original, I am not buying into Apple's lame refresh.
It seems you were already uninterested in Apple before this refresh, but the refresh just put you over the edge.
As far as the "latest CPU, upgraded video and other internals" this is NO different than buying the latest computer. The speed difference in real world usage will be modest at best. Anyone who knows anything about Apple, knows they are the masters of hype.
This is absolutely true. Apple is a hype-machine. But many of their products live up to the hype. I think the hype for this keynote went far beyond the hype there should have been for the 4S. People were just expecting an iPhone 5 "incredible" redesign, just like I was. But I'm not pissed that they didn't come out with it. In fact, I'm still going to buy a 4S.
For some reason I just had a feeling, after all sooner or later Apple's arrogance, and condescending attitude, had to come back to bite them in the ass. Today was that day. The lame "event" today was embarrassing to all of us who have been long time enthusiasts.
Yeah, without Steve Jobs heading the keynote, things felt off. Yes, without a redesign after 1 year 3 months of no iPhone, things felt off. Yes, after no upgrade to the iPod Shuffle or iPod Classic, and an extremely minimal update to the Touch and Nano, things felt off.
But I'd like to see other companies come out with products that good. Forget the innovation for now. Look at what's there. What's there is a superior product.
Anything above that for the time being is a treat.
NOT TO BE CONFUSED with hero worshiping Fanbois. My, my, Apple really screwed up today. And to the apologists who argue that it doesn't matter, they will still sell a massive number. I agree, you are absolutely right, there's not a discerning buyer in the bunch.
Yes, the mass will continue to eat up Apple products no matter what. But that doesn't come from nowhere. It comes from the fact that people feel Apple products are worth the money, and are buying what they think is best.
Anyone who freely chooses to support Apple's blatant profit taking maneuver deserves the warmed over, milk toast model they get. Comprised of a bit of artificial intelligence and speech recognition, the "Assistant" is a Fanbois dream. An enthusiasts disappointment. This will turn out to be as "Revolutionary" as Face-Time... heh!
I'm not really a fan of particular apps like FaceTime or Assistant, but it's not because I don't think they are good, I'm just not interested in it.
I continue to support Apple because, at the moment, I still feel they are the best company in the world and their products are superior.
Like you've said all along, it's not about specs, it's not about anything other than "belonging" to the clan.
I feel great belonging to the same clan that gets the flooring in their retail stores from special mountains in Europe. I feel great belonging to a clan that goes out of their way to provide a highly sophisticated lighting system in their retail stores. I feel great belonging to the same clan that takes pride in the presentation of their products.
Now smack in the center of mediocrity, Apple is Walmart's Darling. And just like Walmart products, they will sell in huge volume. At the end of the day, as always, Apple execs are laughing all the way to the bank.
Your last statement is true. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
But they've worked for it.
