If the phone comes out on the 14th, then it should be available to preorder the day of the announcement or at the very latest a few days afterwards.

With the rumor of constraints in the pipeline there may not be a pre-order. Just on a first come-first served basis.

Just to be picky [and because it seems as though none of you have ever studied even rudimentary economics], full employment is defined as 4%-6% unemployment. This is the ideal balance between employment and inflation. Thus, 4.1% unemployment is easily full employment.

The covers everything including the people with out a degree.
People with a degree the number has always been lower. Also you have to factor in do they have a job in their respective field.

Guess what - Americans with college degrees(non-liberal arts) are almost fully employed still.

uh, no theyre not.

unemployment rate for college grads is around 4.6% right now, and that's not counting the underemployed. i watch a ton of cnbc so i know all the employment statistics fairly well.

additionally, filtering out certain majors and specializations to get to a low percentage of unemployment makes your argument pretty silly. the majority of college grads do not have PHDs nor engineering degrees.

Omg. Get over it.

In other news....

And of course the initial buyers get the faulty ones with the crappy antennae like the iphone4 and then spend months on the forums whinging

Invites SEP27

Event OCT04

Pre-order OCT07

Launch OCT14

All that is left is evolution or revolution in design...or both...

4%-6% unemployment is what your government calls full employment.
That is not really full employment. Full = 0% unemployment ie everyone has a job.

I don't see how full (being everyone has a job) can be any more then 0% unemployed cause of the definition.

It's just like here - trains on time = up to 10 mins late (says our government). On time is not late though. They call a late train on time. Just to cover their own ass when people complain cause they are late.

It's just the usual - various world governments feeding us bµllsh¡t as usual.
Your response is so naieve it's so sad. There is no such thing as everyone having a job at all time except in lala land. Some people have disabilities (temporary or permanent), others chose not to work, and there are many other reasons why not everyone is working.

They should just block out vacation days for the rest of the year. With so much pent-up demand for finally getting a new phone, its going to be a madhouse to get one. Can just imagine lines everyday as people expect new shipments. I jsut hope they allow online pre-orders again so I can get mine without too much difficulty ;)

He's not being naive. The unemployment rate only factors in people who are actively looking for work.

In other news, I can't wait for the iPhone 5.

I take this as evidence of what I assumed might happen...in an effort to avoid a repeat of the MobileMe launch, Apple will rollout iCloud on the 10th, a few days before the launch of the iPhone 5 (14th). This will give them a few days to focus on it while people begin using the service. Then by the 14th they'll be ready to focus on the iPhone 5 launch.

Don't know if this is just a sale or if it won't be available after Oct. 3rd. It's from Telus Canada.

Since nobody is staying on the topic at hand, I am changing the topic to pizza. I love me some thick crust pie. How about you?

White pizza, thin and crispy crust.

For university-educated people, Germany is very strong right now. Less than 1.5% unemployment for people with a PhD and 7% overall. Not so bad, if you ask me.

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/germany/unemployment-rate

You also have to keep in mind Germany's economy is about the size of New York City metro + California. Large economy for its size, and I like Germany quite a bit, but you are measuring apples to oranges.

Bottom line: There are many parts in the U.S that are doing very well (better than Germany), and others that are doing poorly. It is a very large country that has pockets of pain, and pockets of pleasure.

Otherwise, excited to see the new phone. If its a 4s, I'll likely keep my 3 G unless something impressive pops up.

can't wait, my apple store is in the mall so idk how camping out would work. When the iPad 2 was released i just went after school and the line wasn't that long and i was able to get an iPad. But if it is on the 14th (fri), i might take off that day and run in. The only question is if there will be a line of campers waiting to run in or the security officers guiding the line up to the store. This s if i decide to get the new one in the first place.

My Apple store is in The Woodlands Mall, and there was no camping allowed on mall property whatsoever per the Mall, and The Woodlands Township I'm sure. I also heard similar stories for other Malls around the Houston area. Your best bet is to congregate with everyone else at a nearby site, and monitor the proper mall entrance until the time is ready. After enough people showed up, and with proper police escort, they should let you line up outside.

People losing the chance for vacation.
People camping out for an electronic device.
Welcome to America.
People wouldn't camp out if they knew they could just walk in like any other day and be out within 5 minutes with a phone. Launch days are obviously different. Very excited for this!
