I think I get your point, but calling the iPhone a "luxury item" just because for some people it's a luxury is misleading, because "luxury goods" are a specific category of consumer good, and things like the iPhone are NOT considered to be that kind of an item.
Here are some examples of "luxury goods" in terms of consumer items:
• A $350 pair of Prada sunglasses
• A $1500 Hermes wallet
• A Mercedes-Benz automobile
• A $6000 Panerai mechanical watch
• A $900 Burberry trench coat
Etc.
You are calling it a "luxury item" in the sense that drinking soda is a "luxury" when you could be getting away with water -- especially considering water is healthier for you. Having a nicer smart phone just because cheap pieces of garbage are available on the market is not even a luxury for many people, though -- I absolutely require a phone that functions extremely well for my job. It's hardly a luxury, it literally adds tens of thousands of dollars to my income per year (which lets me buy actual "luxury goods" sometimes, heh).

The fact that the iPhone has sold hundreds of millions of units inherently makes it a mass market item, which inherently excludes it from being a luxury good. The iPhone is the best-selling piece of consumer electronics in history. It CAN'T be a true luxury good in the sense that that term is commonly used.
However, Apple's marketing CERTAINLY has a way of making us think of it as a luxury good.

If Apple made the iPhone 5 with that size screen you would love it, so just stop.
If Apple does it, it's ok...anyone else does it, it's unnecessary.
This. If people didn't like big screens, the iPad wouldn't be selling so well. The iPad is basically a giant iPhone.

Even if it's true that "everyone" would buy Ipoop, if Apple made it, I can tell you that I'm not "everyone". You and I are the exceptional ones, and to be honest I have my doubts about you.
I buy Apple products because Apple doesn't make "Ipoop".
As for the "Lightning charger", you really haven't thought this through.
According to the Apple Store, here's whats in the box.
- iPhone 5
- Apple EarPods with Remote and Mic
- Lightning to USB Cable
- USB Power Adapter
- Documentation
No one really has to buy a "Lightning charger", because everything you need to charge the iPhone is included with it. That's good, because many of the adapters are already back-ordered or won't be available for a month or so. And the high sales volume of the iPhone 5 pretty much ensures that the market will soon be flooded with less expensive cables and adapters.
Never said apple makes bad products...There products are the best bar non. However the masses will buy regardless and they know it. People rant and raved about the drop calls along with antenna issues...Guess what Apple still had/reported record sales...It all comes down to $$$$$ I can tell you that the adaptors and lightning cable was a very well planned move on apples part....Its just another way to get more money at the end of the day.

Actually, I'd love a screen size the same as the S3. I don't care for that longer but not wider iPhone 5 screen - it looks a bit odd. And did they say "black bars" on apps not modified for the long screen? Yuck.
But I'm invested heavily in the iOS platform (apps, media), plus I just think iOS is better, faster and more stable than Android, so going elsewhere is no longer an option. So, I have an iPhone 5 coming Friday.
Do you actually own apple devices ?? I doubt you have bought a rev A apple product, cause like all manufactures Apple has had it's share of farkups. Though if u believe in magic, I guess you will believe a farkup is a magical feature

As far as this argument goes, the iPhone surely is not a luxury phone. If you want luxury, you need a Vertu (yes, I know they are big POS, but they are expensive POS and come with a concierge service) :

What iPhone haters are you people even talking about ? Look folks, you might own an iPhone and like it overall but still find faults with some aspects of it. You might not like the direction the line-up is taking, while still owning your perfectly fine older model...
Plenty of reasons to voice negative opinions other than being "A fandroid bred by the Android ecosystem". That is just daft. Owning an iPhone doesn't suddenly remove your brain and cognitive function and turn you into an Apple positive spin spouting machine.
Nah that was "double" or maybe "security". Though if Cook comes out and says the 5 has doubled the sales of the 4.... I'd be very suspicious !!

Spot on. Vertu is exclusive. Where as the iPhone is made for the masses. Sure rich people will own them , but so will trailer park trash and council estate residents, cause on a plan they are relatively cheap.
you have to really see is that what Tim says is kind of like horrible sarcasm, "we are double down on security" well in Tim Cook code "we've damn near leave the door open to the R&D department" so "blown away" could very well mean "well ****, that was disappointing"
