I don't understand what people think innovation is. For instance, one person on this tread dismissed OS X Mavericks as not innovative because all it does is "finally" bring proper multi-display support.

But did no one see the technologies Craig discussed at WWDC this year with regard to Mavericks? The memory compression and battery-saving tricks of reduced power cycles and hidden apps drawing less power were mind-blowing to me. Those were highly innovative software technologies that not many people paid much attention to.

Face it, Apple will never be the same without Steve. Plus, Tim Cook is basically a boring logistics guy. No new products in months. So, yeah big scoop Fox news. Everyone knows Apple has lost its mojo and momo.

The Apple TV "could" be a groundbraking new tech toy but that evolution is really up to the companies that hold a grip on media. So no soup for you !! You can't blame Apple for that.

The iWatch. That idea actually stemmed from a member here on MR when the nano came out. He attached it to a strap and used it as a smart watch. No soup for you !! Can't blame Apple for that. It's a common sense thing.

A lot of tech Apple does is very dependent on Intel,Inc. It's the Intel pipeline we need to watch.

I like the new Mac Pro but I believe it's going to be very, very expensive putting it in a niche' catagory. Apple needs to design a regular tower that more people would buy.

The Television.

That is a tough one that is also dependent on the media conglomerates . No soup for you ! Can't blame Apple for that.

Get rid of the Intuit board member, the Avon Lady and have a more tech minded board of directors. That would produce better tech .

My Problem

My main problem with Apple is the ridiculous year after year after year wait I've had on a bigger iPhone screen while seeing the tide completely shift against them; I've had every iPhone and have been waiting FOREVER... all my co-workers, friends, family who have Android OS powered devices with big screens wave them in my face and ridicule Apple.

Release a bigger ------ screen... its not that ------ hard. (of course I know theres more to it, building phones at a massive scale is complex)

They are getting absolutely trashed out there in the real world because of this.

The other thing they needed is to innovate iOS and they are FINALLY doing so.

True. And it was almost six years between the iPod and the iPhone. We have no idea what's in the pipeline. This story seems like a fantasy made up by a bored blogger.

Sad thing is because people don't know what Apple has in the pipeline they just assume Apple has nothing and the well is dry. But yet when we see leaks then people complain that Apple's not "doubling down" on security and nothing is a surprise anymore. Sigh.

True or not this kind of "news" is hardly surprising. New product out the door will squash such chatter. Chatter about why the chatter is true, false, or other is meaningless.

They mustn't rush. Innovation takes time. I feel like there's a bit of a lack of innovation in the technology industry as a whole right now, but if hey think about it long and hard they'll come up with something decent.

I think this is a good way to look at it. I don't think you just sit down and pull a rabbit out of a hat every few months.

Example please? You can't make this kind of statement without giving an example.

How about the Experia Z that waterproof phone thing. That's super cool !! Apple should have had that on the last phone / pad.

iPhone 2007

iPad 2010

Where was all the screaming and gnashing of teeth between those years?

No one had any clue about the iPhone and iPad before release date so all of you haven't a clue of what Apple has up it's sleeve.

You my friend are correct!

:apple:

Try to imagine what software & devices will be like in 1,000 years. Now 10,000 years. Then from the perspective of someone using that technology, look back at the differences between iOS 1,2,3,4, 5, 6, & 7. Aside from seeming basic and crude as a Model A Ford, the lack of "exciting new features" from one generation to the next seems inexcusably lazy.

Buy a Mac today. It does almost all the same things it did in 2007.

With the iPhone & ipad Apple built what they thought the phone & tablet of the near future would be. It was a leap forward.

Now they need to do that again.

You are talking about the super cool IR blasters that come with Android now, aren't you. Can't wait to not use that.

yeah its the IR blasters that make the new crop of Android phones better then the IP5:rolleyes:

Yeah that's a good point. Also, Fox News is known for pulling stuff out of their rear...:p

It would be nice if people questioned stuff more (whether its positive or negative). First thing I thought of when I read this is, who is this guy and what is his (or Fox Business) track record when it comes to reporting on Apple or tech in general? But instead of questioning sources these days websites trip over each other to be the first to report something that will generate page views. Sigh.

I do believe that Tim will have the first of his iPod/iPhone/iPad moments sometime in the not-too-distant future. Patience is a virtue.

Google, e.g., Google Glass; Microsoft, e.g. Surface Pro; and Samsung and Nokia insofar as they were first to introduce features that haven't been seen on other smartphones, eg NFC, IR Blaster, 41 MP Camera, f1.8 camera.

These are no innovations. A better camera in an ugly design? Google glass will be innovative when people actually start using it and you see millions of people with it. NFC is no google innovation just a given technology implemented in a phone that actually no one uses. You are mostly a feature whore, just like people prior to the first iPhone.

Darn you Macrumors? I predicted that Tim would be tossed out in 2015. I might have to push it up to 2014

yeah..... one needs to draw a line between marketing and final product. Mavericks apart from dropping the lion theme, is what I would consider a service pack release, not a new OS.

Why can't they innovate a new product every year, it's not like it's amazing for one company to even make 1 innovation their life time, iPhone, iPad, just ain't gonna do it, it's not a world wide product that change things on a big level.

Whenever I read these types of articles I get more convinced that the "executives" and beam counters are going to destroy Apple again just like they did in the 1990s.

History repeats itself....

yeah its the IR blasters that make the new crop of Android phones better then the IP5:rolleyes:

its not the IR blasters.

face it with every new phone from samsung, nokia, htc, heck even LG is bringing something new to the table.

take the new moto x for instance, and how its voice recognition software is completely hands free.

the last time apple brought something new to the table was siri back in 2011.

iOS 7 is iOS 6 with makeup on and features such as control center that have been on other phones for years.

I think this is total bollocks.
The fact that it's from Fox News should be a red flag straight away.
Coupled with the fact it's simply moronic, how can it make sense.

Anyone as annoyed as I am they have been VERY slow about increasing the iPhone size? (not counting the 3.5 to 4 inch change)
