Darn you Macrumors? I predicted that Tim would be tossed out in 2015. I might have to push it up to 2014

I hardly think its his fault. I am sure Tim is not the one innovating "stuff" at Apple, its just seems the industry as a whole has ran out of ideas at the moment, and Apple has been cocky in the past about innovation, and everyone is looking at them..... this is not Tim's fault, he inherited this arrogance.

Hey Look at the golden boy of Apple, Ives, he gave ios7 a facelift, hardly innovation to be honest. We just need to accept that the ideas are running low at the moment.

People must really be forgetting the past 12 years of Apple's product pipeline. In 2001, the first iPod was released. Then in 2007, the first iPhone was released. That is SIX YEARS in between Apple's breakthrough innovating products. Then the iPad was released in 2010. That is THREE YEARS since Apple's last breakthrough innovating product. Steve Jobs died in Fall of 2011. Tim Cook has been CEO for TWO YEARS. Do you see what i'm saying? Whether run by Cook or Jobs, Apple's biggest game changing products didn't remarkably appear out of thin air. They were formed by years of development, engineering and design. I believe Tim Cook can come out with some innovating stuff. But give the man some time! I'm sure all those executives at Apple are working around the clock on things like the iWatch and possibly an iTelevision. People seem to forget that Tim Cook was NOT put in charge of Apple by its board, but by Steve Jobs. I'm sure Steve put a ton of time and thought into who he would leave his company to. Steve has made very few mistakes in his career at Apple (when he returned in 1997), and I doubt he would make a mistake as to who would be the right person to run Apple after he's gone. Stay hungry, stay foolish, and change the world :apple:

Can someone remind me what Steve Jobs pace of innovation was? Was the board concerned when Apple went 6 years between iPhone and iPod? And another 3 before the iPad?

Anyone as annoyed as I am they have been VERY slow about increasing the iPhone size? (not counting the 3.5 to 4 inch change)

Though the main reason for this is the impact such a change would have on all current apps.

Yes it needs to happen, though Apple will want to do it in a graceful manner. Give it time

Good god, people. Apple is fine. It's tech blogs and Wall Street that have unreasonable expectations that EVERYTHING Apple does have to be some brand new remarkable thing.

Tim Cook needs to tell them to go away already.

(I also love how there's absolutely NO criticism at Google, despite them not doing ANYTHING for the past ten years except copy and sell your information.)

yeah they were. Hence Steve got back into Apple, cometh the Ipod, the rest it history!!!

I completely agree with that but...

So? Hardly innovative, a much needed UI refresh and a fix for the bodged multi-display support in OS X.

Meh, we get CPU updates all the time, not really innovative or 'fresh'

This one I am happy about. I have no use for one anymore but am very excited to see the new design launch.

Still dont see this being a 'WOW' as its not going to be anywhere near as good as we'd all like - you cant get networks all over the globe to sign up to it, it wont happen. The Xbox One 'middle man' solution is about as good as its going to get.

Yay......Exciting....

Sadly no compelling new products (that we know of) are in the pipeline. Nothing that will have a huge impact like the iPhone and iPad did.

I just posted my thoughts. I'm not after a debate, guy.

Bob Mansfield is working on the innovative stuff, just give them time!!

i think this is just a weird year since we haven't seen much from them. We will see a lot next month though

Do they have innovative stuff in the pipeline?

I have serious doubts about this rumour, but it would be a worry if there is too little in the pipeline.

I've struggled to see a good reason for a an Apple TV, but there is an opening at the moment.

4K TVs are appearing, but there is no delivery system for 4K content, and HDMI has only has low frame rate support for 4K at the moment.

The opportunity is because there is 4K content available (many movies are shown at 4K in cinemas), iTunes can deliver it to the home with H.265. Thunderbolt is 4K capable, so it can get to the TV. And an iOS powered TV could display 4K.

But scratch that if this rumour is true.

It would be nice if people questioned stuff more (whether its positive or negative). First thing I thought of when I read this is, who is this guy and what is his (or Fox Business) track record when it comes to reporting on Apple or tech in general? But instead of questioning sources these days websites trip over each other to be the first to report something that will generate page views. Sigh.

Have they ever reported an Apple rumor before?

We are all concerned. Stockholders, employees, and customers.

Cook is a disaster waiting to happen.

He should have stayed as COO and that's it; his intellectual bandwidth is great for supply-chain optimization and NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING else.

That is why Apple is losing share on all fronts now - his vision is as foggy as a bad day in the Alps.

But I'm assuming the Board of Directors know what they have up their sleeve. So if they're worried, then it's probably bad...

I wouldn't be certain of that at all, especially certain secret projects. Possible, but certainly this type of behavior would not be appropriate at all by a board member. I serve on a board and if I publicly disclosed something like this I would be ousted immediately.

Expecting a constant stream of innovation is just not tenable.

What's wrong with coming out with a great product every few years and maintaining a steady stream of sales until the next big thing?

Stupid, short-term thinking.

We just need to accept that the ideas are running low at the moment.

Because of course we all know what Apple has in its pipeline. Just like we all knew about the new MacPro.

My main problem with Apple is the ridiculous year after year after year wait I've had on a bigger iPhone screen while seeing the tide completely shift against them; I've had every iPhone and have been waiting FOREVER... all my co-workers, friends, family who have Android OS powered devices with big screens wave them in my face and ridicule Apple.

Release a bigger ------ screen... its not that ------ hard. (of course I know theres more to it, building phones at a massive scale is complex)

They are getting absolutely trashed out there in the real world because of this.

The other thing they needed is to innovate iOS and they are FINALLY doing so.

Agreed! When EVERY competitor you have is releasing a much bigger screen, don't f---ing decide what is the perfect size for my hand!

No flagship phone is as small as the iPhone. Make the option for customers, and if people buy the same size as the 5 then say "I told you so."

We can basically guess what the 5S will look like. But just as iOS was getting stale, hitting a home button and having large bezels with small screen real estate is as well. The LG G2 looks great, the bezel looks so small.

Maybe the moral of the story is that Apple shouldn't lose customers because they didn't get the screen size that fits them.

As a customer waiting on the new iPhone and iPad I'd love them to update more often but then once I have my new iPhone I'd hate for it to be superseded in less than 6 months

This report seems shaky at best... Apple's BOD has typically been very in tune with exactly what is going on at the company. If they were unhappy with the pace of innovation, they would just remove Timmy.

(I also love how there's absolutely NO criticism at Google, despite them not doing ANYTHING for the past ten years except copy and sell your information.)

Wow.... Not sure where to start..... how about Ever heard of Google maps... go back 10 years mate!

And you get all this free stuff like google maps cause Google have been focusing making thier money not on copying others, but on internet advertising, these coping stuff you talk about, are but side projects

My take is this. Apple cares more about making money these days, they have forgotten about making great products. They still make good products, the best in fact but at the moment they are not 'great'. Take the Apple TV for instance a good product but has had no serious software development for what 3-4 years ? It has the power to have apps and much more, look at what you can do with an Apple TV that is jailbroken. They have missed the opportunity to make a good product great. Why do we have airs, retina MBPs and MBP's ? A single product would allow for more innovation, you can't be 'laser focused' on everything. So why haven't they killed the MBPs ? Are they scared to lose the revenue ? IMHO Tim should go, I don't really think he has had enough time, but business is business and he's not taking the decisions that need to be taken.

Google, e.g., Google Glass; Microsoft, e.g. Surface Pro; and Samsung and Nokia insofar as they were first to introduce features that haven't been seen on other smartphones, eg NFC, IR Blaster, 41 MP Camera, f1.8 camera.

Google Glass - because an equivalent of a bluetooth headset for a smartphone is ground breaking.
Surface Pro - you are not even trying here
NFC, IR Blaster, 41 MP Camera, f1.8 camera - that's like saying having SD card slot on an andriod device is innovative in 2007.
