What Girl, Woman, Grandmother doesn't like Gold? This is no surprise!

Apples no dummy, they know by keeping supplies low they can create the fear "OMG I may not get one" that's worked for decades in retailing.

Only an idiot thinks apple is keeping a color low in supply for marketing purposes. God that's dumb

Nah, you just miscalculated the amount of Chavs that own iPhones.

Booyakasha!

Apple could make an iPhone in **** brown and the masses would still drool

One of the leather cases is in that color

This is a rumour as the WSJ is not Apple. It's very plausible though.
I hate it when people claim non Apple sources as 100% fact.

WSJ = Journalism
Apple = Fact (About Apple that is).

Can't spell it out any clearer than that.

I miss the times when MacRumors headlines still had question marks to separate the rumors from the actual facts.

Sold out of gold and silver

The apple store in Shadyside, Pittsburgh, PA just announced there are completely sold out of silver phones, and only 1 person got a gold phone. And I am 50th in line. So basically, the only stock they had was "space gray".

I can never find a place to park there anyway. You check out the one in South Hills Village??

They still do that. Many people suffer from short term memory loss, though.

I wouldn't go that far. Kind of harsh. There are a lot of kids here who are virgins to business ops like supply chain management. All they know is Internet memes and myths. But, you are are right. They post that kind of garbage and they do make themselves appear unintelligent.

I thought the gold looked great. Looks like lots of people agree.

I'm not so sure its the gold colour that's popular - I think it's more the change.
By that I mean I'm sure any 'new' colour (as the gold model is) would be popular, simply because it instantly makes it different to iPhone 5 and distinguishes itself immediately as an iPhone 5s, which isn't the case with the black and white models.
That Apple didn't think of this is astonishing to me, as it was always quite obvious that the new addition would be the one most in demand.

I got 2 gold 16gb online right at the start (fort wife an me), and got the 1-3 days shipping in my confirmation. Must have been one of the lucky ones. Either that or I got the only two :)

I never thought of it that way, my apologies to the kid.

Lesson for everyone: Apple wants to SELL you a phone NOW, not make you WANT a phone they DON'T HAVE. Not just apple, everyone. That's why the stock goes down when they have supply problems in their chain.

Most of of the people I know getting the gold one are actually Men. And with the large amount of sales Apple does it would not make sense to keep supply low (Doing that would be loosing 5s sales to the 5c or other phone altogether).

Strong demand my ass. No resaler in the state got any gold of any size and the local apple store got 6. It appears that they made practically none of the gold.
My AT&T store got 0 silver as well. This is some serious ********.

I'll be one of many to say this but I am quite surprised gold is in as high of demand as it appears. Unless it's false demand because supply was short in the first place. I definitely don't look at MR as a reliable sample of the general population, but this site alone appeared to turn a nose up at the idea of a gold iPhone and that is the basis of most of my surprise.

I agree. It doesn't matter what they do... It's the all new iPhone. People will go nuts over it no matter what. Tim Cook and management have figured this out. That's why they only offer a few new improvements each time. Just offer a couple new things and everyone will have to upgrade to have the newest iPhone.

Wouldn't buy the gold model myself, a little too much bling for me. Among people who have a lot of gold hardware in their accessories this can make a nice addition though. And of course among people who wants to show off having the latest iPhone.

I will go for the space grey variant once 5s is released in Sweden.

Or maybe someone who just likes the color scheme

Okay so even if China makes a million gold iphone 5S' today, that will take forever to distribute to the world.

I wonder how many they actually make in a day over there.
