Not sure if this has been posted already, but it is quite a sizeable structure:

For the occasion, it appears that Apple has been building a massive structure on the campus, which has been kept under tight wraps with a white barricade. A MacRumors reader has sent in images of a mysterious structure at the Flint Center, which appears to span three stories and is protected by "scads" of security people. Administrators had previously declined to comment on what the structure is for, stating only "We are not at liberty to discuss that due to client wishes."

Why does everyone keep calling it a structure? That IS the new Iphone 6.

I'm pretty sure it's just a structure that's housing the new products for journalists etc to see. Nothing special, people are overthinking it.

Just a thought. If the structure is indeed being built over the garden area across from the FC entrance, perhaps it is being done as one of their big glass cubes. That would look impressive.

Do you believe they're going to cram iPads into this September event too?

If that is what they want then yes. There is no law that says that Apple must spend X time on each product, can only talk about iPhones on the 9th or can't have a 5 hour announcement if that is what they wish. It's possible for example that they won't do demo after demo during the actual keynote but let folks see that in the mystery cube or off the website. After all, what really would there be that they need to demo anyway since that sort of thing is more software and thus was done at WWDC.

By Time Magazine, IIRC. Their exclusive was supposed to be embargoed but the article was published early.

So goes the rumor but if that were true why were they using a fake tablet and not an iPad. If they had an exclusive and authority they would have had the real deal.

Maybe Apple are just building an empty shed just to see if Samsung will build a bigger one before September 9th?

Question not for just you, jonnyenv, but for everyone. I see many people use "Apple are…" rather than "Apple is..." Apple is a singular entity. Just like "IBM is..." or "McDonalds is…" It's not just you, I see this everywhere.

Am I just a curmudgeon?

How about we split the diff and we say "The folks at Apple are…"?

Actually this could indeed be to show off their new home automation system? Because in regards to smart watches and fitness bands, they have certainly missed the boat on that one, and it's hardly a market in need of stimulation..

BUT...

Home automation? Panasonic rumoured to be showing things off for this at IFA, no idea about Samsungs stance on it, and it is a market not very much in the public mindset, so Apple could have a chance to steal the show on this.

Maybe this structure houses an in home setup?

Not that it is not but what (besides the upcoming event) indicates that this is Apple building this structure? I have not read through all of these posts but i don't see any conclusive evidence of an Apple involvement here.

This. But already pointed out.

If the announcement was being made in the usual venues, they'd have plenty of floor space for product displays available in a nearby hall. At the college they have only the theater, so they needed to erect a temporary display hall.

Not if all Apple launches is NFC equipped large screen phones and a smartwatch they won't!

If Apple releases phones that have their reputation + the features Samsung has, you can bet that they'll be sweating a little bit. They're already feeling the pressure from the other Android manufacturers.

My Take

It's a made up gym. Use the new phone and OS to control the electronic gym equipment and to monitor the person using said equipment and AirPlay the whole event onto AppleTV which can be seen on the newly added channel. :)
