You can tell Apple has WAY too much money on their hands when they could build that gigantic structure at De Anza College just to support the keynote for the new iPhone 6 models. ;)

Not if all Apple launches is NFC equipped large screen phones and a smartwatch they won't!

Of course they will. You think they're gonna see apples version and say "its ok we got the galaxy gear!"

No. If apple introduced a wearable, samsung will release something with the same features in short order.

Pretty much yes, if anything Apple will just launch a device that copy's the Samsung Gear and Gear Fit. Not including all the other devices out now or already announced.

Question not for just you, jonnyenv, but for everyone. I see many people use "Apple are…" rather than "Apple is..." Apple is a singular entity. Just like "IBM is..." or "McDonalds is…" It's not just you, I see this everywhere.

Am I just a curmudgeon?

How about we split the diff and we say "The folks at Apple are…"?

These are singular in American; plural in English English.

Aside from the new iPhone and possible iWatch (both of which I'm ecstatic for), I'd like to see:
  • Refreshed AppleTV
  • Refreshed Mac Mini
  • Refreshed Thunderbolt display
But who knows what this crazy structure could be!

  • iRocket / iSpace / or anything that goes to space
  • iCar (no, not the navigation sys but an actual car made by Apple) and the demo round
  • iHouse complete with iHome system
  • Probablly just for afterparty concert
  • One more thing!
  • iMall (a new shopping mall concept completed with iRobots and iPayments and iBeacons and you can buy your iWatch on spot.)

I think this is a pretty obvious one - whatever they will unveil will involve much heavier use of voice commands... "Saying more". "Apple, turn on lights". "Apple, turn on TV." "Apple, buy song". "Apple, change channel to ESPN" "Apple, change thermostat to 72 degrees". "Apple, record CSI:New York"...

#AmIRight?

That was my immediate thought too

Smaller less wealthy companies built structures almost this size inside the convention halls in Vegas just for a trade show. Same for major fashion shows. Not THAT big of a deal.

I was thinking the same thing. But they can do what they want. The rewards of a beautiful price point, profit margin and demand.

Its going to be a a fake home to show off the home automation features of iOS8/the watch

I want to see Tim Cook descend from a crane.
"Samsung wasn't optimistic it could be done. But I didn't take 'wasn't optimistic it could be done' for an answer!"

And then the house falls apart.

Do it in a large convention center floor is one thing. But taking over a sizable chunk of space at a junior college, that's quite something else.

If that is what they want then yes. There is no law that says that Apple must spend X time on each product, can only talk about iPhones on the 9th or can't have a 5 hour announcement if that is what they wish. It's possible for example that they won't do demo after demo during the actual keynote but let folks see that in the mystery cube or off the website. After all, what really would there be that they need to demo anyway since that sort of thing is more software and thus was done at WWDC.

Well none of this stuff has actual laws but based on everything we know and how the world generally works, Apple will either do a 90 minute or 120 event. If you do the math that leaves time for only a few new products with demos that everyone would expect. Could they do a 3 hour event? Yes but they won't or else everyone will walk out asking why did they take so long instead of talking about the few hot new products they just saw. Besides, journalists and their readers have such a headline mentality and iPhones, iWatch, iHome, iPayemnts, iHealth will not all fit in one clickable headline ;)

Actually in this day and age, journalists have a page hit mentality. And the more articles they can generate out of the various bits and pieces the more page hits they will get.

That is the giant mockup of a iPhone 6 retail box, for Map satellite purpose. :p

"Before, we saw Great Wall from space, now we see iPhone 6."
