Some good thoughts. I like the smart home approach with a twist... They are going to have state of the art hologram technology and Jobs (in holographic form) will grace us to deliver the new, epic 'wearable' ... Whatever that may be. Especially, since he deliver the MAC here 30 years ago... That would be a beauty.

With all of the rumours preceding and announcing the iPhone, iPad, and computer and software changes in 8 years the one thing that impresses you is an unknown structure wrapped in vinyl?
Got here after iPhone was already revealed. iPad didn't impress me and still doesn't. Apple's been coasting on evolutionary changes for a while now, leaving me with a "meh" feeling for years.

But a Flint Center announcement with a giant mysterious building outside? They're either going to lay the biggest egg in tech history or knock it out of the park. And for (what could possibly be) the last time, I'm genuinely interested in what they have to say.

:)

Evolutionary changes over time can equate to what could be considered "revolutionary". Why rework or fix something just for the sake of change. The reason why iPhone was revolutionary is because they cracked it, they solved the issue. If they cracked it, all there is to do is improve on it, not completed change it for no reason. iPod came out and it just stayed the same and evolved. Mac is the same. It had a revolutionary GUI and mouse when it came out, but evolved from there. Apple usually enters a product market with the revolutionary product, and takes on evolution from there to perfect it. The MacBook is no different. A laptop has essentially looked the same since the early 90's, just got thinner and more powerful and lighter. That's evolution, not revolution. Better materials, battery tech, screens, etc. are all evolutionary increments that over time can add up to what appears to be revolution.

Continuity and Proximity

Looking at the technology roadmap (iBeacon, Homekit, Healthkit, Continuity, iWatch rumors and NFC's etc) prior to this announcement, we understand Apple is keen to bring a continuous and intimate experience to its future user base. I believe whats under the lid, in that massive structure, is a temporary structure/building to enable visitors to experience first hand how the new mobile (phone's and wearables) technology works, weaving home-based, office, retail technology in a seamless walk through experience (perhaps like a living room, or house of office, or mock up retail store). Apple will be redefining "iLife" (using it for a pun here) as an intimately integrated technology between our lifestyle at home, work and play. Bringing to life Steve Jobs vision of its view of the "interconnectedness of things". This lines up well with apple's belief - "technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities"

Recycle

Ginormous recycling container for Android / Amazon / Windows phones for all customers switching up to new Apple iPhone 6 phones after keynote.

Perhaps it's to house the new iPhone - 5.5m edition.

You can now recreate the Chopsticks scene from Big in your very own living room.

I think it's really easy. It's a modern house, controlled by an iPhone and an iWatch using the new HomeKit. That is what they are building

True, but who cares about computers

It's irrelevant if is a computer or a mobile device. I think the reason why there are no leaks is because the manufacturing process have not started. There were no leaks with the original iPhone or original iPad. And I don't expect this wearable device to be launched any time soon, perhaps end of November or December.

Its going to be a a fake home to show off the home automation features of iOS8/the watch

That would be a good idea, although they can play a video during the presentation with some actors showing the daily usage of HomeKit. A live presentation is much more complicated than that.

Anyway it'd be great to see a little situation comedy on stage, Ive gets home after work, Craig Federighi with a long wig plays the spouse, Ive talks to its iWatch and the lights go off in the bedroom  :D :D

This is a very good point. Apple know's that products (or at least parts of them) end up getting leaked, so they could be thinking "we will show it off first" (like they did with the Mac Pro) and then go into production for a November/December launch date.

It's also quite possible that we are all over thinking this building that's being built at the Flint Centre, and it could possibly be just an area where Apple will show off the iPhone 6 models. OR i could be wrong and they something big planned :D

Here you are - I have some actual images of a watch made by Apple - an iWatch if you will. I've noticed that it has the inscription iMac on the face - I think this could mean that they have managed to squeeze an iMac in there too! Notice how slim and transparent (just like in iOS and Yosemite) the band is. I can't see any health sensors so they must be very well hidden. I've picked this up and its also very light.

So there you go... the iWatch! ;)

iWant!

rumors have suggested

Any time MR writes want to say expected, please replace the word with the phrase above. It's more correct, better writing style and sounds like you care and are not just pushing egos into your writing. Well done for not using "expected" this time. Lets hope the trend continues and that word is not used in this context ever again.

Apple Car would be late. Already done:

You're a little late on that one.

True, but who cares about computers
Lots of people considering that: Macs, iPads and iPhones are all computers. Personal computers too.

Guys. It's clearly an iHouse.

My Yep just talks out of his ass with what he thinks and inside information he shouldn't be saying. Take no notice of that fool.

Jim Dalrymple?
I am surprised people still care what he says. I stopped caring about that literarily challenged person years ago.

I know what it is! It's a giant safe like Scrooge Mcduck use to have in the cartoon ducktales. To hold all the money they'll be getting from iPhone and iWatch sales!

And this is the inside of that vault

I think this is a pretty obvious one - whatever they will unveil will involve much heavier use of voice commands... "Saying more". "Apple, turn on lights". "Apple, turn on TV." "Apple, buy song". "Apple, change channel to ESPN" "Apple, change thermostat to 72 degrees". "Apple, record CSI:New York"...

Apple finally made Frank's 2000 inch TV. And that's where they are keeping it till it's unveiled.

Weird Al already knew about it and wrote a song a long time ago about it.

I think for Apple stock, the hype is already largely priced into the stock price. In many cases, the stock went up before the keynote and dropped right afterwards, even if they showed something cool.

As I keep saying, my money would be on NXP due to the NFC announcement. The stock has already risen a lot, but I feel there's more to come if Apple announces a partnership with Visa based on NXP's chips. Another option is Invensense, because the iWatch is likely going to contain motion sensors of some kind, but that is a less safe bet. NXP is such a safe bet that for the first time in my life, I am considering borrowing money to invest into stock.

Thank you, I'm looking into the NXP and it does sound like a "safe" choice. The question is how much it will go up now as the rumour is out and I can purchase stock next week on wednesday :(

It can be hit or miss trading around AAPL events. I trade AAPL stock and options daily and track all sorts of data.

Here are 2 links you may find helpful.

http://aapltrader99.home.comcast.net/~aapltrader99/Apple_Trading/Event_Price_Change.html

thank you, that is very helpful even though the complexity of the colours and bars is a bit confusing but I can at least see that it usually goes down a bit as the hype is always bigger than reality.
Thank you for your time.

Question not for just you, jonnyenv, but for everyone. I see many people use "Apple are…" rather than "Apple is..." Apple is a singular entity. Just like "IBM is..." or "McDonalds is…" It's not just you, I see this everywhere.

I'm British and we tend to treat company names as collective nouns.

A company is essentially a descriptive name for a group of people, so using 'Apple are' makes perfect sense. However, it does depend on the context, as you could also refer to the brand itself which would be singular.

We do this with any organisation or group of people, such as "The Government are failing to tackle crime", "The Police are underpaid", etc.

Second idea is maybe a basketball court. Remember Kobe Bryant showing up at Apple headquarters? Partnership with Nike for HealthKit?

The facility they are putting together doesn't do well for a basketball court. IMO, HealthKit is a long runway that need a good electronic records back-end to really be useful. My take is a big HomeKit demo with iOS 8 and the wearable.
