My interest level in a self-driving car: ZERO. Cars are meant to be driven. If I don't want to drive I can call an Uber, Lyft or taxi or get someone else to drive. If I have to choose between having a Porsche and owning a self-driving vehicle my choice is already done.
I don't even like automatics - I much prefer the engaged driving experience of a manual transmission.

LOL I am the complete opposite.
I just want to get a self-driving car and be done with it.
I don't want to plan & pay a Taxi Cab every time I need a car, this would be a nightmare.
I've lived this way for 20 years and I have no desire to go back to owning a car.

I’m the same. I’ve got better things to do with my life than sit in traffic watching the bumper of the car in front. A self-driving car that lets me sleep on the back seat or watch a film while it deals with the tedium of crawling through traffic would be perfect.

This is going to age like milk.

I just don't buy this "Apple Car" rumor.

This is heavy manufacturing we're talking about here. With that comes large factories, unions, supply chain, endless regulations, safety ratings.. ETC. I don't see Apple or any company being able to boot something like that up in 4 years.

It's not like Foxconn is going to roll out an Apple Car like they do iPhones. This is heavy manufacturing at a large scale. The only way that this would make sense would be to partner with an existing manufacturer.

I feel the same way about my 2014 Altima.

No, think what size vehicle is the most practical design for a family to own and build that first.
First of all, the expected size of a family car has ballooned in the US over the past 25 years, especially compared to the rest of the world, where small 6 seater MPVs are common.

Second, this kind of conventional wisdom is exactly what will result in Apple getting to 6% market share instead of redefining the category.

There's a real opportunity for a super slick, high tech urban vehicle that is not a road hog. Think about what VW did to the industry in the 1970s. That was disruptive. The conditions are ripe for it to happen again.
