6 years out? Great, now Samsung will have a chance to rush something to market and beat out Apple

Palm
Blackberry
Motorola
Windows Phone

“There’s no way a computer company could ever make a Pho—Ohhhhhhhh. Never mind.”

All of those were hard to use and Apple solved it.

What problem is Apple going to solve with EVs that Tesla hasn't solved or won't solve in the next 5 years?

What are you talking about? Tesla already has vehicles with 400+ miles of range and quicker than the Mach-E, and the next generation Plaid vehicles should put a massive gap between it and the Mach-E. Ford doesn't even try to compare the Mach-E against Tesla's vehicles because they'd lose that comparison so soundly.
Eh, not for the same money. And as a Tesla owner the real world miles that the car does isn’t what’s advertised.

Did anyone actually think it was going to come out this year, or next? Personally, I think 5 years is still pretty optimistic.
For the amount of time and money that they’ve sunk into this based on the reports, yes I’m surprised.

Nobody should be surprised by this. Did anyone seriously think an Apple Car was going to come out in the next 2 years?

Good. Personally I don't think Apple should be building a car themselves at all. They're starting from 100+ years behind the curve.

Far better would be to partner with a group of existing manufacturers to integrate their stuff into the cars made by people who actually know how to make cars.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Apple is too big to roll them out like Tesla, they need to iron out all the kinks before launch and make sure it's 10000% safe.

Honestly, I'm still kinda skeptical that this will ever see the light of day.

Wow, I guess Apple is really building a car. I don’t really see the logic of it, but Gurman is pretty reliable.

Ford began selling the Ford Ranger EV in 1998, five years before Tesla formed and a decade before Tesla sold their first vehicle.

They started selling their second electric vehicle, the Ford C Max Energy a year before Tesla introduced the Model S.

So if having done this for longer is a benefit, that’d be Ford’s, not Tesla’s. Ford is behind Tesla because the company is inferior, not because they’re new to the game.
Tesla has the advantage of not having to deal with the UAW.

No way. There's way too much competition for them to wait that long. The only chance they have is if they mass produce before other manufactures cannibalize EV market share

Tesla has over 2 billion miles recorded and user data. Apple doesn't have ANY data if they're trying to do self-driving which I'm sure they're aiming for.
So what? Take existing technologies, and make them better. Apple is better at that...than anyone.
But, the point of my reply was that if anyone thinks, in five years, Apple will have a car that is only where Tesla is today...o_O

If it’s anything like iPhones...Why buy a car you will never own or be able to modify without Apple’s proprietary parts? 😂
