Happened to me too. I was on the phone/chat with them for over 1 hour. They saw the card on their end, but I couldn't on mine. I couldn't re-add the card. They told me to clear cookies, reinstall app, etc (typical IT support questions, I know, I used to work in IT support).

Getting reeeally turned off by Amazon lately. Most of the goods sold there are now cheap Chinese products. The product page reviews are full of bots and fake product reviews. Products show up one day with fake reviews and then by the time you’ve received the product and realized it’s just more cheap Chinese crap, they’ve pulled the product and you can’t leave a review to warn others.

Not everyone wants to open new lines of credit just to get a few % discounts on limited purchases.

I understand that. I average about 4% cash back will all my credit cards combined that is more than a "few discounts".

Because it can be an antitrust violation?

Understand that point. I am not saying that they should not allow Apple Card to work with it. I am simply saying from the consumer perspective there are better options.

There goes both my Xbox SX and PS5 preorders that were both put on my you guessed it Apple Card...

Oooh, that blows on the PS5 Pre-order with your Apple Card, given those are nearly impossible to confirm a successful pre-order for those in advance for launch day. I would double check with Amazon if you’re preorder was officially canceled due to this error.

Well, In complete fairness, Amazon support may not be aware of the issue yet, as it’s just been exposed it seems. So by them telling you to ‘clear your browser cache’, that’s probably just the troubleshooting steps following protocol with card issues. I don’t think they are ‘ignoring your statement’, and that representative is correct, they're restricted from Browsing the internet for multiple Reasons. (Security being one of them.)

yeah, that's fair. She ended the chat saying I need to talk to Apple :)

This is definitely suspect. I just tried to add my Apple Card for the heck of it and it fails but if I add a different Mastercard with a different prefix it works. Maybe someone updated the credit card number validation logic and managed to exclude the Apple Card prefix.

Ahhhhh I ran into this issue last night and this morning. Tried to make a purchase and I had no default credit card on file - attempted to add back my Apple Card and kept receiving the error. I cleared the cache, browsing history, restarted my Mac - still, the error persisted.

I called Amazon account services - they told me they still had my Apple Card on file, that they would delete it while I was on the phone and I should try again, which I did, to no avail. They then informed me there was a problem with my Apple Card and I should call Apple/GS - which I did and was informed the card was working properly. I called Amazon back and they had no idea what was going on. I ended up getting the Amazon Prime credit card so at least that saves me 5% on all Amazon purchases.

🐛

Prob. soon resolved.

I hope.

You should be able to change it to a different payment method before it tries to charge the card. I've changed payment methods on Amazon preorders before when i went from a regular visa to Amazon's Prime Visa for the 5% cash back

I'm sure it's just a glitch and will be corrected but I agree with others. Most amazon customers should use a Prime Card if they do regular purchases just like I only use my Applecard for Apple purchases or other 3% programs.

Yes. It's possibly a glitch. But it may also be a trial balloon by Amazon. Trial balloon is to try to see if they can get away with exterminating a rival's payment method. But if the public blowback is hard and loud..... then Amazon simply states: "We apologize for this technical difficulty, our software experts are working hard to resolve this problem right away!"

Let's not kid ourselves: they all do this. Apple and Google would be tempted to do the same thing to their rivals... if it were not for the fact that the GOVERNMENT is already massively investigating their practices.

amazon is the number one place in the world for buying things. if you're gonna have any card it's the one to have

It may shock you to know there are plenty of people out there who ****ing hate Amazon and will never shop there. Target and Walmart dot coms are just as cheap and available for pickup.

Other places don't accept the Apple Card even though they accept MasterCard in general. Thanx, which is a loyalty service provider where you register your credit card and automatically receive loyalty points at participating restaurants when you use the registered card. On their system, if you try to register an Apple Card it fails. Early on, it would state that the card is of foreign origin. Just one of a few examples that I've run into.

Crossing my fingers

The Amazon Store needs to be doused with gasoline and set on fire. All you find anymore are cheap chinese knockoffs with fake 5-star reviews. Can't trust anything anyone says about products anymore.

I occasionally use Amazon for the convenience but, in most cases I find that they are not the cheapest option.

I think that if people actually comparison shopped, they would be using Amazon a lot less.

The small percentage of us will keep saying it until everyone else comes around: Amazon is an absolute dumpster fire behind the scenes. They’re horrible to deal with on the seller and vendor sides because of issues like this. It is only a matter of time before larger issues like this start becoming more common place on the customer side.

They’ll chalk this up to a “glitch” and the card will be available again before you know it.

Why the heck would anyone want to use the Apple Card with Amazon? I understand that some people only want to use one card for everything. However, if you are able, get the Amazon Prime Card to get 5% cash back.

I ask myself questions like that anytime I see someone pull an Apple Card out of their wallet to pay for something. Why are they settling for 1% cash back when there are no annual fee cards that give you 2% on everything and others that give 3+% depending on the category?

I get the "I just want to use one card" argument but if that's the case, there are better cards to use (e.g. a 2% on everything card).

If you do meaningful amount of shopping with Amazon and Whole Foods, Amazon Prime Card is a great card. I do and I use it solely for these 2.

Juggling too many cards is not something most of us wants to do, but it is better to have at least few credit cards as to keep credit utilization rate in check. You should try to maintain credit utilization rate at under 30% on each credit card.
