Holy crap I want that band so bad.

If an Apple employee believes the LGBTQ lifestyle is incorrect, are they allowed to have that opinion? Doubtful.
That's like saying being left handed is "incorrect". My sexual orientation is not a "lifestyle choice", it's the only state of being I'm capable of since that's how I was born.

There's no evidence to support your statement. Apple employees are not required to attend Pride events, and I think it speaks volumes that Tim Cook is holding fundraisers for the likes of Paul Ryan. Differing viewpoints are clearly respected. But the line is crossed and the respect ends when those differing viewpoints devolve into rhetoric suppressing the rights or expressions of others.

Love and disagreement are not mutually exclusive, IMHO.

As long as disagreement and discrimination don't go hand in hand. From all sides.

They refuse to believe the scientific and medical communities when told it's a presdisposition people are born with and they choose to believe it's a choice. This helps them justify their hatred.

Well, so what if it's a choice?

I'm straight as an arrow, but if I choose, by choice alone, to do anything with any number of consenting adults in the privacy of my bedroom I am certainly not seeking the approval of a bunch of lunatics on a forum of Apple fans.

Then again why the actual **** after 32 posts are we still debating whether you can or can not avoid going to hell for being gay?

Could we make a conscious effort to get to terms with the fact that this is not 1516 and move on?

Jesus. After reading some of the bigotry and hatred in this thread, it becomes clear why many sites are eliminating comments altogether. 9to5mac, using Disquis, is much worse. I'm convinced there is a Disquis bigotry brigade that flood these types of stories.

Nice watch band, btw. A beautiful gift to those at Apple participating in the parade, which Apple has sponsored for three decades. Kudos to Apple!

The problem is that the choice argument is central to most bigots argument. Once you take it away from them and refuse to acknowledge it, they don't have a leg left to stand on and their bigotry shines even brighter when they are forced to admit that they just simply don't like people for being different and it has nothing to do with whether it's chosen or not.

Obviously it wasn't mandatory to wear the band, just those who wanted to participate. Right?

Hell, how the **** does this equate to celebrating sexual abuse or "sin", whatever that means in the middle ages you're posting from?
How the actual **** can something like this "alienate" customers and employees?
How does this even qualify as "politics"?
It's cheesy, I give you that, but how can this possibly be controversial?

Just... how.

The only way I can imagine somebody being offended over this is if they find the very fact that gay people exist offensive.

In which case, quite frankly, you have a big problem and it goes way beyond Apple or watch bands.
It may come to surprise you that not everyone feels that homosexuality is something that needs a parade. It may also come to surprise you that not everyone feels that Apple should take such an active political stance.

Is that true? I don't think thats true. Here's a truth: people like you hide behind the word "Bigot" because its your way out of having to have a conversation with anyone with a slightly different perspective than your own.

Let's get back on topic.

The main problem is that Apple seem to be more interested in endless watch bands than in focusing on their loyal customers. What we would like is computers worthy of the name Apple, be it in the form of Macs, iPads or iPhones. We're not getting them, and that makes me sad.

Regardless of where you stand on Tim Cook's political leanings, the point is that his heavy emphasis on politics is wearisome for us Apple enthusiasts, because it shows that they are not concentrating on making good computers. I have never seen such negativity on Apple's products as in the last few years, and therefore it is reasonable to deduce that they have taken the eye off the ball. It is unquestionable, in my opinion, that Apple are in for a sustained period of revenue and profit decline that need not have happened, and that that is a direct result of Cook's decision to divert his attention from their products and spread it over areas like politics, which do nothing for Apple's bottom line or reputation as a maker of outstanding computers, but help him to feel good about himself.

but when someone who doesn't align with their beliefs
What the hell are you talking about?
We don't believe in being gay - we are gay. It's the fact of life.
Bigots can change beliefs, religious people can change beliefs (and do it all the frigging time) - but we are gay and that is not going to change.

When you denigrate my existence as a lifestyle or a belief - you deny my right to exist.

In all fairness, how difficult is it to produce a watch band. I don't think its a matter of focus.

The next gen software upgrades recently unveiled are extremely impressive, and they blow beyond any of what was rumored. Few people have talked about how clueless the rumor mill was of 90% of what was shown at WWDC. I'd say that bodes well for the next iPhone as well.

It's not for the oppressive majority to decide whether a minority needs a parade or not.
Don't like it? Don't attend it!
It's our party and you are not invited.

It's not for the oppressive majority to decide whether they are bigots or not. It's the minorities prerogative. No racist, anti-semite, misogynist, or a homophobe would ever consider themself a bigot.

Watch bands are easy to make and don't take much resources from anywhere else. So why wouldn't they do more varieties of them?

Sometimes I think MacRumours is actually trolling readers by focussing so much on watch bands in their articles. Somehow I doubt that any of the Mac or iOS Apple engineers were redirected towards making watch bands ;)
