It’s a start, but I’d like to see Apple advocate for the major reform of policing and indeed the entire criminal “justice” system that’s required. There is too much that needs to change to list here.

I’d also like to see them financially support the victims of police brutality/violence and support them in pushing for the justice they were denied.

There are sadly madly hundreds if not thousands of cases coming to light, including murders identical to the George Floyd murder where police were not charged.

White people like me are privileged...

That's not white privilege, that's black disadvantage. Now, you might think it means nothing or just a quibble, but in fact it's vitally important to the overall outcome of what the USA is going through. You don't want to bring people down, you want to raise them up. Even when self flagellating, the modern left love to think about themselves.

Why was this done earlier instead of after all these drama happened?! Typical Tim Cook. Only follow the others cannot foresee future needs. Just like all the current and future Apple products. Only playing catch up.

With your unique insight and wisdom, tell me about the needs you have been able to foresee, and how you have helped to produce a positive outcome.

Apple has a set amount they need to donate every year for tax purposes. Don't get it twisted, this racial fund has nothing to do with helping anybody but Apple's image. But knock them for it, its their money and they can pay whatever they want to boost their image. Its up to YOU to decide whether to believe it or not.

Every company is doing the exact same thing right now, its all virtue signaling. None of them mean it, its all about P.R.

It amazes me how many corporations are throwing "million of dollars" for social causes. If all of these money were combined, just think how many unemployed people they can feed and help out with rent payment.

That's right.

Instead, it'd be far more efficient and fairer to create a common pool all corporations have to pay into.

You'd probably want some kind of committee to decide how large that pool ought to be.

And you'd want to keep that committee in check by the citizens.

Gee, I really think I'm on to something.

(haha, just kidding, let's pass more tax cuts for corporations)

Enjoy your vomitus.

Who says they are “garbage manufacturing jobs”? What if some of the supply chain can be automated, and there would be net additions of manufacturing engineers and technicians, as well as robotics specialists. All earning on US soil? This is Apple - under Jobs an option would be found.

Ummm, it was under Jobs that all Apple manufacturing was moved away from California and Ireland.

All this idiot ever does is throw money at the problem. Funny how he does or says nothing about the lack of free speech/human rights violations in China. Same these with these basketball players like LeBron/Kerr/Popovich. They're quick to criticize our own countries but stay silent due to their addiction to chinese money.
Huh? He is propagating freedom and equality all the time, much more than he can be expected to and possibly more than he should. Moving away from or contributing to higher wages in China would actually be throwing money at the problem from his view, so the opposite of what you are saying is true.

First of all, 9 unarmed black people were killed by police, not shot. Second, the fact that any unarmed people were killed is a disgrace.

But let's put police shootings aside. You can look at numerous studies that say black people are 20% more likely to be pulled over by police. Or that they're 4x more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession as whites. Or if you look at exonerations, black people are more likely to be wrongfully convicted. There's either racism there or just a bunch of coincidences that line up.

And one more thing, if you can at least admit that racism exists and that the vast majority of white people aren't on the receiving end of it, then by definition that's white privilege. White people like me are privileged to not have experienced any racist attacks in my 26 years of living.
No they were actually shot. A couple more were killed like from a taser or some other cause so the total number is a Bit higher unfortunately.
which proofed you’re point more than it does mine. On the other hand, unarmed does not mean that they weren’t causing a threat to the police.
Some of these where even killed by black police officers.
While I agree that each and every unnecessary death is absolutely tragic, this is not the point of my argument.

My point is, that you cannot reasonably expect for something like this to never happen in a nation of more than 300,000,000 people. That is statistically almost impossible.

9/41,500,000(Black Population) = 0.0000217%
That is the chance of being shot by police as an unarmed black person in America in a full year. And people act, like the police is specifically out to randomly kill innocent black people.

The Chance of dying in trafficin the Us is 36,560/330,000,000=0.011%

That is 510 times more likely!!

If people are really afraid of that, they should never leave the house, definitely never drive a car.

People who are calling to “abolish the police” are lunatics. Those are radical leftist that want to see anarchy because they romanticize it and have no idea what it would actually look like.
while not always perfect, that police are absolutely essential and the country would go into absolute chaos if those crazy leftist got their way.

$100 million? Is he trying to promote equality and fight racism or actually fund the North Army against the South Army in the civil war?

If it's this easy for big corporations to amass funds out of thin air, why isn't it done more often? I think at this point there's been over $500M in donations, which is great, but why is it given to all these "initiatives" (which in my mind means the money is ripe for misappropriation) instead of directly improving minority communities?

Why not use those funds to build homes, improve schools, shore up neighborhoods, and so forth. $500M gets you 2,500 homes valued at $200K each. That's 2500 families, or 10,000 people on average. If you do that every year, that's lifting many tens of thousands of people. Just goes to show that capitalism in the modern day is too focused on profits and shareholders. And I say this as someone who very much supports capitalism.

I'm all for trying to do the right thing, but this issue isn't just about one group of folks. Honestly, I feel Apple should have kept a step back a little bit fueling one group of people (that's already based on some really false ideas) it makes it worse and sad that Apple handled it like they did originally.
People need to be decent all around. The riots and protests (peaceful and not) that people claim are over racism is an excuse to be angry. No race should feel oppressed, no race should apologize for things they had no control over, nor should another race feel as though they are the only ones to suffer in life. Everyone has it bad or has had it bad in times past. I am sorry but #BLM doesn't help, and never has... labels and separating us as if we are different species is how this all started in the first place, (back thousands of years ago.) We should be mature enough to realize this is an evil people problem, not a racial #ThisLivesMatter problem or a police officer problem. There are great cops and sucky cops, great human beings and sucky human beings. The people shouting, spewing hate, causing violence, and wanting to spread this divide are being sucky humans.
It's not racist or cliche to say #AllHumanLivesMatter, because that includes everyone in existence. Everyone SHOULD be treated equal, if they are not and instead are treated with prejudice, bigotry, or hate... then we unify logically, to work even more to fight evil, educate, and help others reach a point where racism and hate are nothing.

Avoiding communication with people you don’t agree with increases division. It has never proofed to be a good idea.
Society functioned just fine with avoiding the local conspiracy theorists and racists before social media came around. Things are more divided than I've seen in my lifetime now that all the raving lunatics have open platforms to scream from.

For sure on that. It's pretty awful now. There's a lot of perpetually unhappy and angry people out there. Screaming their hate is the only way they can feel better about themselves.

I agree. But I hope you also agree, that it’s Lunatics from both sides.
Social media is a poison because you can always find people who agree with you, no matter how out there your opinion is.
And I think it is only going to get worse. Very sad to see.

Thanks for answering.

A lot of these stories are starting to come out more and more now and I must admit I wonder how much truth there is these stories. It's good to hear it 1st hand from yourself.. Obviously goes without saying that its wrong. I'm white and grew up in the states but currently live in the UK. From my perspective pre the current BLM movement, I wouldn't of said that race is that much of an issue in todays world in "western civilised countries". However, I suppose because I've never really witnessed or experienced the issues you have I suppose I'm sheltered or ignorant to it. It just doesn't really cross my mind.

Lets hope we get the change we all want! you'd like to think some of issues such as red lining and mortgage/banking applications should be a quick fix!

Thanks for understanding, but you just identified "white privilege".
I wouldn't call it ignorant. I would just call it unaware.

"White Privilege" is never being questioned about being qualified because of the color of your skin.
Even though, I'm highly educated and worked extremenrhard, I get second guessed by people that are intellectual children.
"White Privilege" is never being followed around a store because of the color of your skin.
"White Privilege" means it near really crosses your mind.
But see, that's the point, these types of things are always in the back of mine.
Not every uninformed opinion has merit.

This. Exactly this!
