They were marching with torches and chanting “Jews will not replace us.” They were all racists and Trump called them “very fine people.” It’s indefensible.

Remember this? I do...

Referring to working-class voters in old industrial towns decimated by job losses, the presidential hopeful said: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Huh? It wasn’t a smart thing to say in a public setting, but it was 100% true (and actually sympathetic to the people he was talking about). I have no idea why you’re bringing it up in response to my noting Trump’s defense of white supremacists.

Who was he referring to?

“Sympathetic”... that’s a good one.

He’s the duly elected president of these United States. 60 million Americans voted for him. Criticize someone when you feel someone is wrong, but the “all Trump all the time” focus of people on the left is insanity. You people are absolutely deranged. It’s truly mind boggling.

Let the CEO of the worlds biggest company dine at the White House without an analysis of ***** Donald Trump and all the hand wringing. Get a grip, people, please. Most of your lives have not changed one iota since the guy was elected.

Well said. It is sad that Yahoo "News" is just a 24/7 Trump bash. One look at the history of Communism/Socialism reveals they are terrible and oppressive systems. So why are they held in such high esteem by the left?
Besides, there are real problems facing us like pole shift and increasing UV due to weakening of magnetosphere.
But I'm glad Tim is meeting with Trump. I hope he can speak for all Apple users who want to maintain whatever online privacy we have left.

This is not a fact, no matter how much capitalization you use. Trump didn’t lose by 2 million votes.
The way I see it he didn't lose by 1 vote. HE is living in the White House, not out whining about who all's fault it was that he isn't living in the White House. So apparently he won not lost.

What evidence do you have that rich people ONLY donate to charity for tax benefits? I would argue they do it because they care about what they are donating to and they don't notice the hit to their bank account either way.
I never said they only do it for tax breaks. But you also can't say they only do it for causes they care about. There's no way to know, but what I do know for sure is that both types exist in some percentage. Furthermore, my wife has a family member who lives across the country and is a 1%-er and has said that while they do donate to causes that they care about, the amounts will sometimes vary by a certain amount to maximize the tax write-off. This person has spoken with my wife about these matters before because my wife is now the executor of the charity portion of the will. Some day we will be in control of millions of dollars that (from what I understand) will 100% go to the charities and non-profits that we choose. So while we can't access any of it ourselves, it's going to be fun making another person's day! Right now we're leaning towards education, which seems to be lacking in our country at the moment.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. If this disincentivizes some of them, even only 5-10%, then a lot of charities that are barely making it are going to take a hit at the end of this year. And given that so many charities get their donations at the end of the year—conveniently before the tax cut off—should tell you that there are at least some who do this. And it won't take a lot of cuts to sink many charities. Either way I don't know how this will affect things. I was only asking a question about whether these changes in the tax law will make it so that people taking deductions would have less incentive to donate to charity. Does anyone know if someone making large donations to charity will have a lower or higher tax bill for 2018, generally speaking?

Love the way macrumors protects us with the policy regarding these potentially political discussions...this has been a productive thread focused entirely on Tim Cook's visit to the White House. Inspiring and awesome conversation!

I don’t see the lives of my countrymen affected, despite the incessant whining and cringing by a spoiled and privileged few and their media enablers. In fact, I see people keeping more of their paycheck, a solid economy, more jobs and the end of Isis.

Hahahahahahhahahaha, yeah the people keeping more in their paycheck are the rich, the economy wasn’t changed by him and is still bad, and isis is still prevelant.

With a property tax bill above $20K and a new imposed cap at $10K, it’s a huge loss.
I rest my case.

Why? Apple is very happy with the tax breaks they got from Trump (while the working class didn't get a penny). Together they'll come up with a story that is good for liberal Apple and conservative Trump. If Trumpy Trump will post a tweet tomorrow praising Apple for whatever thing Tim Cook told him, the stock market will respond in a positive way. It's all about appearance.
Guess you are not working class or haven't yet figured out how to read all those numbers on your check stub yet huh?

Our last president shrunk the deficit by a trillion dollars. We voted for him, so we've done our part. Your party and your president just blew it up again with the handout to the rich they call "tax cuts."

As part of the problem, maybe you should be the one taking your wallet out.
Hm lets see it was somewhere a around $9 trillion from Washington thru Bush (yeah all presidents combined before Obama) and $18+ trillion after his 8 year reign. So if he cut it by $1 trillion, explain again how that math works? And see above from Tonewheel regarding handout to the rich tax cuts statement.

Let them have that. It's all they have....a bunch of votes that didn't amount to a hill of beans.
[doublepost=1524683732][/doublepost]
Obama also did a tax cut for the middle class early in 2009. it amounted to 50 additional dollars (after taxes) a paycheck which is something considering we were in a recession at the time. I truthfully don't think we needed a tax cut right now. We can't afford to pay the bills. We need to be cutting down on military spending and educating folks for jobs that exist right now. Instead we are cutting taxes when the bills aren't even paid. Why are people happy about that? People are going to give up $700+/month in healthcare so they can get an extra $50 a paycheck. It doesn't make any sense.
FYI Obamacare was the cause of that not Trump. Just for the record.

Exactly.

Suddenly there are people that realize what their state taxes are now that they aren’t shielded from them by the rest of the country with a Federal deduction.

It’s hilarious.

I say: “Pay Up”
Kinda disputes the whole "tax cuts for the rich" narrative too doesn't it.

It's jut hate, hate, hate with you people. Remember that Bush was stupid, LITERALLY HITLER and an international embarrassment (and also a war criminal). According to Joe Biden, Mitt Romney would have black people back in chains. According to the left, every Republican is evil and the sky is always falling. No wonder most people just ignore you these days.

Sure guy. Again, fine to dislike him and disagree with his policies. But show me all the harm that has come from his presidency, except for butt hurt over a Hillary Clinton loss. And if the most you have is "Merkel is offended!" Fantastic. I don't really care what the EU or some tinpot dictator in Central American or warlord in Africa thinks.

This is the same Republican Party and leaders that vowed to never work with Obama.
Attempted through obstructionism to make Obama a one term president.
The Republican Party now is definitely not that of the 1980's. There was some bipartisanship then.
They worked across the aisle.

This is the same Republican Party that claims family values, but I bet would never even consider a black man with the baggage of #45. Actually I know they wouldn't because there was a black man with no baggage that they derided and he had no baggage.

#45 is the same individual who claimed Obama was not a citizen and posed the birther movement.
#45 is the same man, and I use that very loosely, that talked about grabbing women by the private parts.
#45 is the same man whose companies denied housing to minorities and it was proven in federal court.
#45 is the same man that lies incessantly without blinking.
$45 has no ethics or morals.

Republicans are the same party that claims fiscal responsibility when they don't have the checkbook but give away the nation to corporate interests when they do.

Republicans complain about the deficit but carried two wars off the books and complain about Obama increasing the deficit when he carries the wars on the books.

Republicans just initiated a trickle down plan through corporate giveaways even though we know through analysis and history that it doesn't work.

So please go away with al that self righteous crap.
You first need to be right; not rightwing.

Also I don't give a crap about Hillary.

I’m a teacher. Not rich in any way. I get to keep $300 a month more. That’s a big deal for me. Get outta here with that Nancy Pelosi incoherent nonsense.

I would love to see your paychecks because the full tax benefit hasn't even gone into effect.

Yes it does.

If current generation democrats aren’t linked to Kennedy/Johnson, then that same generation doesn’t owe reparations for slavery.
[doublepost=1524678422][/doublepost]

The parties flipped? That’s a good one.

Can we not bring up slavery?
There are no current or past slaves alive.
What we do have though is millions affected by the 100 years of Apartheid in America called Jim Crow and The Black Codes.
The laws that made it legal to deny housing, employment and education for millions of people for multiple generations.
Those people are still alive. Apartheid in America officially ended with the Civil Rights Act of 1968 but still requires active enforcement.

So can we talk about the effects of Apartheid in this country? Thought so.

The platforms for the Democrats and Republicans flipped around the 1964 and 1968 Civil Rights acts.
The passage of the 1964 act was a motivator of Southern Democrats to move to the Republican Party.

Please read your history dude.

Starting with my February paycheck yes it did change. You’re so full of wrong information I’m not sure if you’re completely ignorant to reality or you’re purposefully trying to downplay the benefits of it because you can’t accept Trump did something people are happy about. Maybe you’re a student and don’t have a job so you wouldn’t know.

You need to learn the difference between the deficit and the national debt.

As a teacher I find it horrible that you cant read. Please see the part where i say FULL BENEFITS. And yeah so wrong of information that every news outlet points to the majority of the tax relief going to the wealthy. And yeah, I am a student. a graduate student who has had a job for years. Nice try, looks like your the ignorant one. As I said, show the pay stubs to show us the supposed $300 dollars a month you are getting extra.

http://money.cnn.com/2018/02/01/pf/taxes/paychecks-new-tax-law/index.html

as a teacher I doubt you are making 160,000 dollars. So I doubt you are getting $300 extra a month.

There are no more laws discriminating against people of color. There are prevalent pathologies in the communities of people of color resulting in less desirable outcomes, most prevalent of all being a lack of a father in the home.

This is just a fact and things are never going to change unless this is acknowledged and acted upon.
[doublepost=1524712700][/doublepost]
You don’t see the damage he’s done to the State Department, the EPA, the FCC? You don’t see how he’s hurt our international standing and our national security? You don’t see him ceding American power on the world stage and granting China more power and influence? If you could look past the extra $10 on your paycheck, maybe you could.
No. I see none of those things. Well, I do see cuts in egulation which has always been a conservative staple. Has the net neutrality sky fallen on your head?
[doublepost=1524712844][/doublepost]
So a far right response to try to balance out a left leaning comment. You should maybe cut back on Fox News and maybe go outside into the real world where Americans 'slaughter' more of each other than any terrorist.
Violent crime and the murder rate has been consistently is going down, so there is no “slaughter.”

I wonder if a lack of father had something to do with a white woman calling the police on two black men at Starbucks. I wonder if lack of a father had something to do with all the black men who are shot by the police. I wonder if lack of a father has something to do with why white men shoot up everyone with ar15s and all people want to talk about is black on black crime.

Continue to ignore the problem and it will never go away. Never. But feel free to just scream “racist” and engage false equivocation if that helps you keep your head in the sand and sleep better at night.

I still can't believe Trump is as vague as he always is. And, why link this dinner with USA being "unfairly treated" in trade?

He’s the ceo of the most valuable company in the world and he can’t get a properly tailored suit?
