This is most certainly a “This would have never happened if Steve were still here!”

I'm not sure about that. I have no lack of criticism for Tim. However, I do agree with the premise mentioned in previous threads that it's easier to get results on the inside. Would Steve have chosen a different path? IMO, I don't think so. I will take a moment to give Tim a big pat on the back for this one. How he could be in the same room with a Mad Man for so long must have been exhausting. Then again perhaps he was simply sitting back observing the President speak, and having flashbacks to Middle School. :apple:

Steve had the president over at his house for dinner.

Jobs wasn’t the typical liberal sycophant, and without confrontation at political gatherings.

At a dinner with other Silicon Valley tech heads, Jobs also tore into Obama about how terrible his immigration policy was, and the need for higher skilled and technically competent immigrant candidates.

Told him that unfettered immigration numbers of unskilled laborers was a massive political mistake. It was reported he made everyone else at the event very uncomfortable bringing up this discussion.

At separate events, Jobs told Obama that he could improve education by busting up teachers’ unions. And that his economic policies were driving more and more businesses away to China.

So this seems to be a trait he shares with Cook, happy to talk with pols and happy to disagree with pols.

Though Cook seems at odds with Trump’s policies, which at face value, sound much closer to Job’s politics.

As Tim has said many times, you can't exert change from outside.

Speaking as someone who holds Trump in extreme disdain, I applaud Tim for his ability to engage despite obvious and profound disagreements with Trump policy. The sad fact is that Trump was voted as US president by the American people. What do you expect Cook to do? Dissolve Apple in protest?
????????
Would FDR in 1934 when A.H. took office...go to a state dinner in Germany?

Tim Cook does not look comfortable in black tie. And, for a man as wealthy as Cook is, that evening suit looks dreadful. (I think its the same one he wore to a Kennedy Center event a couple years ago.) The jacket fits like a sack and the trousers are baggy and wrinkled.

Yes, I know he is a business executive and not a movie star, but if you are going to do something - do it right.
Tim looks ridiculous and the pants don’t even fit. It’s like the clothes are wearing him.

I think the policies that Tim Cook disagrees with Trump on are largely not economic in nature. Even on the immigration issue Tim likely has the same views as Jobs. I think rather than importing technically competent immigrants, make Americans technically competent.

He’s the duly elected president of these United States. 60 million Americans voted for him. Criticize someone when you feel someone is wrong, but the “all Trump all the time” focus of people on the left is insanity. You people are absolutely deranged. It’s truly mind boggling.

Let the CEO of the worlds biggest company dine at the White House without an analysis of ***** Donald Trump and all the hand wringing. Get a grip, people, please. Most of your lives have not changed one iota since the guy was elected.

Duly elected... Now that’s a real knee-slapper!

We’re still doing the whole “Trump is Hitler!” meme?

Yes, duly elected. Why is this funny? What don’t you get? Please spare me the “but Hillary won the popular vote” line.

He lost by over 2 million votes. He's there because of the Electoral system. Not on topic, but just to set facts straight ...

Huh? Did someone, other than yourself, bring that up?

I'm kind of surprised he chose to attend to be honest. But hey a free meals a free meal.
Why? Apple is very happy with the tax breaks they got from Trump (while the working class didn't get a penny). Together they'll come up with a story that is good for liberal Apple and conservative Trump. If Trumpy Trump will post a tweet tomorrow praising Apple for whatever thing Tim Cook told him, the stock market will respond in a positive way. It's all about appearance.

It’s weird to think of those as mutually exclusive. What about Albert Einstein? Would you wait for more Americans to develop those areas of physics, or do you import the kind of talent you need when it’s needed?

Just seems stupid not to recruit star players for the team.

Tim Cook is CEO of a company that is on their way to becoming a trillion dollar company. I don't think he needs to give Trump the time of day, and Trump certainly doesn't deserve it. Sometimes what you don't do (like not going to the dinner at Trump's White House) is just as important as what you do. This is a missed opportunity to distance Apple from a swindler who is helping to bankrupt the country by enriching himself and his buddies through insane tax breaks, and bankrupting the morals of the country by his racist policies.

LOL at the concept of the CEO of a single company somehow being on greater or anywhere close to equal footing as the President of the United States. At the end of the day, Apple is just a company. A large monolith of a company, but a company all the same. It employs 130k-ish people worldwide, which is a wonderful thing, but a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

Tim Cook (and any CEO for that matter) has the ability to have his voice heard, but at the end of the day that is the beginning and end of his influence. The notion that he should completely shun the President just because he has major disagreements with him is, frankly, ridiculous. We cannot have a society that only engages in debate and policy discussions with the people with which we agree. Go down that road and you just end up living in an echo chamber.

Absolutely, Trump is a brilliant business man. People claiming he's stupid are underestimating him. Deceiving people, being involved in all those scandals, law suits and bankruptcies while still getting the support from so many people, means he's brilliant. Ok granted, many of his followers will believe just about anything as long as it's delivered in catch phrases and slogans, but still. Brilliant!

Only after his presidency it will become clear how many millions he, his family business and his corrupt liaisons have taken. It's just fascinating how he has the balls to do it all, with the silent approval of the GOP. For that you have to admire him. He wants it, he gets it, and people let him. Incredible.

And Apple will be smart enough to turn this meeting into their advantage. Wait for the Trump tweet after the meeting and you'll see.

Get a grip, people, please. Most of your lives have not changed one iota since the guy was elected.

Not sure if I agree there. He put corrupt people in several administrations, dismantling health care and the EPA does affect people and the environment. Pulling back from the Paris Agreement, the first step in a difficult process to address climate change, affects the whole planet, giving 70 billion to the military and giving huge tax cuts to corporations creating a gigantic deficit will affect American society for decades to come, taking away rights from transgender people, defunding schools, polarising society, eroding norms and politics, ...

Stating that the choice of the president of the United States does not affect people is mind boggling.

He’s unsure what to think about the lady. Nice classy looking woman. And, he’s looking at her like “what do I do???”

What's there to think about? She's an Apple Vice President and past head of the EPA. Why would he not know what to do? Whatever that's supposed to mean.

Well this thread is entirely off topic.

I think it’s good Cook went to the dinner. You can’t promote the changes you want by being ignorant of whoever is in power and shun them, that’s just childish. To persuade other people you must engage with them.

Typically I find Tim Cook as overly political for his role as CEO, which carries some risks. That said, eating dinner with you political opposition doesn’t have to be perceived as some sort of political statement either.

Wow, refreshing to see a neutral yet intellectually informative comment in this thread. Thank you sir :apple:

It's jut hate, hate, hate with you people.

Hate?

Yes, I hate the fact that Americans voters elected as president the most corrupt, amoral, incompetent major party candidate in modern history.

I hate the fact that voters did that after they found out that he had bragged on tape about sexually assaulting women.

I hate the fact that they still supported him after he called white suopremacists “very fine people.”

I hate the fact that the guy charges hundreds of thousands of dollars to members of his private club and brags about it as the Southen White House and pockets millions from lobbyists through his private hotel just down the street from the White House, and his supporters are blind to the naked corruption.

I hate the fact that his supporters are blind to his basic ignorance regarding almost every complex aspect of federal government policy.

I hate the fact that his supporters think that it’s normal that the president of the United States appears to spend all of his free time watching Fox News and tweeting childish insults at everyone he dislikes.

I hate the fact that the rest of the world now views the citizens of the United States as idiots who would elect someone so obviously unqualified to be president.

Haha! You're ripe. You are regurgitating fake news as facts. This is why you lost, and will continue to lose.

Also for anyone paying attention, Locker Room talk, that 100% of Males do, and finishing it up with "..and they let you!" is NOT sexual assault. Just for anyone keeping score. Don't believe this liberal tripe and spin. They are losers. Groupies throwing themselves at powerful men sexually is not nor will ever be sexual assault.

Soon you will all see the foolishness you've partook in and be very ashamed. You have chosen the side of evil under the guise of virtue and morality, and have become useful idiots blind to the truth. It's coming.

You don’t see the damage he’s done to the State Department, the EPA, the FCC? You don’t see how he’s hurt our international standing and our national security? You don’t see him ceding American power on the world stage and granting China more power and influence? If you could look past the extra $10 on your paycheck, maybe you could.

The guy is about to bring literal World Peace in N. Korea and Iran next, with world leaders following him around like puppy dogs and you're claiming he's hurt our international standing because one of your fake MSM shows ran a piece on it. LOL.

No, their lives HAVE changed. They are seeing more money in their paycheck (if they even work), all while ruthless gangs and illegals are being rounded up for their own safety. He's literally made their lives better but their TDS won't acknowledge it.

I would not say he's a brilliant business man. He's a brilliant SCAMMER. A brilliant business man would be great at making money and building a business LEGALLY. Would say and ethically but I deem that as an AMAZING business person.
