Most Apple fans say until their product has the feature:
Wireless charging is pointless.
Bigger screen than 5" is useless and too big.
Amoled screens are inferior.
Stereo speakers on a phone are rubbish on a small phone device.
Multitasking on a phone isn't needed.
Lightning port is far superior over usb c
Curved screens have no use on a phone and make swiping etc difficult.
Finger print /touch id is crap on the back or side of a phone you can't unlock etc when phone is on a table.

Just saying!

Yup that's exactly what it is Timmy boy... It has nothing to do with running out a 3 year old design for the first time in the phones history..... God forbid you were to use any of that 250 billion in reserve towards R&D for a new design you bean counting jacka$$
I was reading all the various posts and came across yours and laughed so hard.

You are my spirit animal--as the kids say these days when they run across something or someone that resonates with them in some way.

I think there are many factors for this outcome that are pro, con and neutral in regards to how Tim Cook has run Apple as a CEO. But this post was so beautifully, perfectly, delightfully grumpy and to the point you were trying to make. I salute you for your gift of colorful expression. :D

Would you like to come to my house and sort out this one particular nephew of mine? ;)

I bought a 7 despite the headphone jack. I'm on my third adaptor. I would trade in my 7 if they brought back the jack with the 8.
Did you loose the adapters?

Always these remarks. You state these things from a few apple users. Not all apple fans cover every base you are trying to cover at the same time. There are plenty of critical apple users that have been screaming for oled and wireless charging, etc. Don' t try to generalize every apple fan/user, and don' t quote this post in 6 months when one apple fan makes remarks in that fashion. It is getting rather stale.

Do you say the same thing about your Mac or PC? Do you expect to buy a new TV every year? A new car? A new washing machine? Etc. Get real. Apple isn't milking anything. The tech has matured and there simply aren't blow you away new features to be had every year. Sorry. The problem is people who expect unrealistic things, then blame Apple for their expectations not being met. It's absurd.

You sound like a pre-iPhone Microsoft fan. I think claiming there are no compelling innovations or creative options to offer customers is a big cop out. Right now, innovation at Apple is constrained because Tim Cook has no imagination and is mostly concerned with offering/engineering products that maximize profits which, by the way, are consistently underwhelming Apple loyalists. The amazing Apple of Steve Jobs is dead at the hands of TC's greed.

Apple has become a victim of its own succes.
It has wallstreet breathing down its neck because of margins and when they try to inplement new tech, they can' t get enough output and yields because of demand.

My contract for my iPhone has expired already, but I'm hoping to hold out until the new iPhones this Fall. My iPhone 6 is decent enough, but does randomly restart or crash when listening to music enough to be annoying.

sounds like the kind of manufacturing quality the "new" Apple is unfortunately known for :-/

Of course he or she lost the adapters. I lose the adapter every time I use it and have to hunt for it. They're just meant to be lost. That's their magic power. It's also the perfect cat toy. My cat sees me using it and waits to steal it.

I'm not about to invest in lightning headphones when I'm not sure if Apple is staying with lightning or moving to USB C. So I just have the lighting earbuds that came with my 7Plus. I love my 7 Plus and feel it was a logical and mature iteration of the now three generation old design.

But I won't lie and say that the removal of the headphones jack wasn't a big pain in the butt and that I'm not absolutely thrilled that my S8+ retains the headphone jack. I'm hoping the Note 7 will also retain the headphone jack.

There are still plenty of accessories besides headphones that make use of this jack. I can see eventually we will lose this connector but Apple mistimed it's removal.

They could also have sweetened the deal by offering a discount on Beats headphones the way Samsung offered a discounted preorder bundle including a 256 GB SD card and AKG branded Bluetooth headphones for the S8/7+ preorder. The headphones and the S8 work great together because the S8/S8+ also introduced the new Bluetooth 5.0. I get great Bluetooth connectivity with this combination. But I do still enjoy using my wired gear and am grateful for the option.

Those of us who have kids also value being able to have a wired option that does not need easily misplaced dongles. Not that parents are running out to by iPhone 7s for their kids, but it does become an issue for hand me down devices. We can't all run out and replace our kids' wired earbuds and headphones with wireless. Some parents even have safety concerns. I'm not sure if they are of merit or not but it doesn't change the fact that Apple threw a curve ball when it was of no benefit to the consumer to lose an option but every benefit to Apple to push its Beats options.

Also some of us really are sick of having so many devices to charge. It may not be too bad for a single adult or even two people but when you have a family of adults and young adults and teens under one roof it becomes a pain in the butt.

I don' t get that, i lost my adapter stuff....
I bought a little clamp from ebay that clamps the adapter to the.... 3.5 mm headphone plug. So the adapter and my headphones are 1 now. Only if i loose the headphones, i will loose the adapter.
So easy..... some people just need everything to be difficult....
The clamp costs about 1.50 euro, i' ll try to find a link.

Are you aware of no other use cases other than your own? How wonderful that must feel.

Elaborate please?

Clamp is taken off easily. Only other usecase is with a laptop/pc so i have to take the clamp off. But i can still use the adapter with my ipad, etc.

okay take the iphone away and what do you have?

A company that still has about 5 to 6 billion in profit each quarter. Still, not bad though.

Oh is that the only other one you can think of? LMAO.

Clearly Tim is in PR spin mode. Bigger deal is what is next. Phone market is crazy competitive. iPhone margins can't sustain. iPad is an even bigger worry in short term, though a much smaller piece of the pie.

Augmented reality gets mentioned regularly. But what does that mean for real products? I am kind of happy with standard reality, excluding politics, of course.

Here's why, iphone 6/6+ were the last new iphones in terms of new features people care about. I used a 7 plus, eh didnt see anything that was worth another $900 when my 6+ works great.

Airpods support, jet black, water resistant, 32 GB base model, better camera, no bands on the back. You can also sell your old phone, so an upgrade doesn't have to cost $900

No, but if you don' t state your usecase of your headphones, why bother.

I see it this way.
-Apple removes the headphone jack and includes an adapter to keep using the old headphones.
-you still buy this iphone 7 , fully knowing that it has no headphone jack.
-you loose this adapter 3 or more times because you keep losing it yourself.

And now a lot of people are b.tching about this, because they lack judgement and keep loosing their stuff themselves? And that is apple' s fault?

Hey Tim Cook, did you ever think that the reason for iPhone's slipping sales is today's iPhones are based on designs you introduced in 2014? Sure, camera upgrade, faster chip. But same design as the 2014 iPhone 6 & 6 Plus.

Only way for Apple to do anything about this is to bring macOS over to ARM and use their own chips.

I would be very, very surprised if Apple don't already have MacOS running on ARM (just as they had it running on x86 years before the switch to Intel). Its an obvious bit of bet-hedging. Part of the work has already been done for iOS, substantial portions will be in C or ObjC and just need re-compiling. That doesn't mean that it is "ready to go" or that the work would be trivial - but I can't imagine it would be a huge development challenge for a company with Apple's resources.

The main problem with switching to ARM is the "pro" and of the market: which would involve creating workstation-class ARM processors and getting third party things like Adobe CS and other high end video/3D ported to ARM. A 12" MacBook, though, mainly running modern software written for MacOS, would probably work, or an iOS/MacOS hybrid 2-in-one.

Not saying its likely - just that its a bit more feasible than some people seem to think.

I guess the iphone 7 was a stop gap iphone.
They wanted to release a new design, but the tech was not ready yet.
So the upcoming model, has had a lot of R&D time.
The biggest mistake apple made was that they were one year late on implementing en ordering oled tech. The stayed with /relied on ips lcd another year and now it backfires.

Hoping apple won' t make the mistake of just releasing an iphone 7s/plus, with some updated internals and release the iphone 8/x in 2018.

My take on the next iphone is:
-release a regular/new design iphone 8 /plus with a glass back and alu frame, 4.7 and 5.5 inch ips lcd truetone 16:9 displays, improved internals, inductive charging, smaller bezels/chins, but with classic touchid on the lower chin.
-release a 5.8 inch iphone 8 edition with stainless steel, saphire back and 19:9 full screen e2e oled, in-screen touchid, etc.

April 2018: release a 6.3 inch iphone 8+ edition

But please, no boring 7s with the same design for the last 4 years and a jet white color. Give us a newer design with less bezel for the " regular" next iphone, not just for the edition.

that's a terrible idea. it will confuse and flood the market with mixed messaging.
