These things are dangerous, the signal from airpod to airpod - travels directly through the brain. No thanks

Cook wants to literally "cook" your brains.

Anything that transmits a radio signal does so in a relatively spherical manner which is to say the signal from your cell phone to a tower is going directly through your brain too, even if the tower is the other way. Also Bluetooth is extremely low energy as is wifi. Cellular modems transmitting is orders of magnitude more energy. I don't think there's credible evidence this kind of non-ionizing radiation does anything bad to us, but even if it did, BT would be the least of your worries.

You have to understand what Timmy's role really is: As a maintenance man for Laurene Powell Jobs' various trusts. That means maintaining just enough growth to maintain the stock price -- without taking too many risks with truly innovative products. Innovation at Apple died when Steve did.

I partially agree... I think that's due to Apples rapid growth in the past decade, they've dropped the ball on a few things. But I think comments saying that things are disastrous (or things are doomed) is a hyperbole. Even saying things are a mess based on the trajectory and frequency of dropped balls, although factual, seems like it's catastrophizing things, IMO.

When questioned about Apple's recently released AirPods and the lack of available stock, Cook called the AirPods a "runaway success."

I think this was the short and politically right thing for Cook to say to CNBC.

In actuality it's the consumer experience with the product has been always been important to Apple... this includes the shopping experience. When the company misses the western gift-giving season with Airpods and causes frustration to it's consumer it reflects poorly on the company.

Then to say it's a "runaway success" makes me feel that the experience doesn't mean as much anymore. Success has always been more focused on the experience to Apple, not just sales.

Because it was an comment to business channel, CNBC, I hope that he was just emphasizing success in terms of sales. In otherwords, when questioned on the "lack of available stock", maybe being more humble by saying "runaway success and we feel the frustration for those that weren't able to get a pair for the holidays. We are making them as fast a we can." would have been more appropriate.

I'd call it a stumbling success.

I'm sorry to hear that.

For me personally, EarPods have always been the most comfortable earphones to use. I HATE sealing earphones with a burning passion.

Same for me, they fit great. Which was one reason I was thinking about the AirPods, but not if you can't adjust the volume during a call.

I hate the kind with the rubber piece that goes into your ear, they are very uncomfortable for me.

Everyone is different I guess. My wife cannot fit the EarPods in her ears comfortably.

Since Apple has abandoned the pro users, I think I'll buy a pair to listen to music while I very reluctantly decide which PC to buy to replace by MacPro and which software to put my thousands upon thousands of Aperture library photos in, and try to find time to convert my old Final Cut Pro documents since Apple decided make software that can't open it's own files.

Cook called the AirPods a "runaway success."

No! It's not!

Long-term user experience will show; for now, a dumb concept.

Easy to lose, painful to jab anything into a ear canal that will stay, and, expensive to replace.

Yes easy to lose, yes expensive to replace, not uncomfortable at all IMO.

Tim: Hey Shareholders...I'm feeling great !!
Crowd: (Snore, snore...)
Tim: Airpods sell like hotcakes!! And they're packed with features !
Crowd: Tell us so. We're seeing this stuff for over 6 years now.
Tim: Sales are stellar !
Crowd: Why would anybody buy, they're just like the zillions of free give-away buds...
Tim: No, these don't have wires. We had to redesign them from the ground up. We had to reinvent Blueto...
In fact the wired buds were pre-releases. We’re also doing beta's also with hardware now !!
Now we sell, by the millions these test samples - saving us all stupid pilot phases and leaks. We sold almost as many as iPhones...!
Crowd: As they were bundled...
Tim: That's iNOvation 2.0: revitalize old stuff and sell as new ! Sell what used to be free ! In fact it's the only way to stay relevant without real inventions.
Look at the iPhone 7 design. So groundbreaking - I told the world Nothing Stayed the Same...
Crowd: But that's what you say with every launch - they expect that from you.
Tim: Sure I did. That's our iNOvation 2.0 concept. Also recycle the language. Stay relevant with phrases people remember. It has to be the same. I declare The Recycle era now.
I am so clever at recognizing trends. I feel like a great visionary... a Steve 2.0, without flattering him of course.
Recycle his Power to be my Best !!

Crowd: Repeating yourself also helps getting Siri to work ! Or did we say so earlier ?
Phil: Airpods bring little news but people will lose them faster. Custdummerds don't realize what they already spent on them. In fact, marketing research reveals that mean-time-to-forget has lowered to 20 minutes. That's why we set the price to exactly $159: difficult to remember !!
Tim: Such a smart move. What do these Airbuds cost, Phil ? Retention buying - it is sooo 2010 ehh, 2020. Or both, as we will plug the beginning of our 2020 pipeline to the end of the 2010.
Angela: What am I supposed to do with these plastic buds ? They don't fit the concept of luxury boutiques. We sell only jewellery there, no giveaways in dental floss boxes. And the AppleWatch of course. The AppleWatch is a price winning device that...
Joni: Pricewinning ? Well, whatever a laureate or ceremony, I will be attending. All designs have my trademark !
Angela: Ooooaahhpfff - speaking about retention...how did I even get here....
All you guys are soo the same.
Tim: And will stay so forever...

AppleWatch was Apple's biggest new product category launch since the iPhone doubling the sales of the original iPhone when it first came out. AirPods are absolutely without a doubt going to beat that. They may be the biggest product launch in Apple's history.

Although I love my AppleWatch, it was released with way too many flaws (and still has some). I was worried for Apple if their post-Jobs culture allowed them to release a product like that. AirPods have reassured me that Steve Jobs' culture is still alive in the company.

AirPods are pure Apple. Tons of tech stuffed into a tiny beautifully crafted enclosure, hiding all the complexity involved and just doing what they're supposed to do, surprising you with subtle things like pausing music when one is removed or seamlessly taking over your iPhone's speakers when you put them in. They just work.

Apple Computer has come a long way. Three cheers for the smashing earplugs and the future products of Apple!

Well done Tim.
And well done to Apple's Ministry Of Information for furnishing us with more glorious news that yet again another innovative and ground breaking product has achieved uproarious success.
Rejoice at our Great Leader's vision!

(Note: I should perhaps point out that I am extremely gullible and tend to believe everything Apple tells me. Thanks)

Made me smile. Perfect use of soviet era bs-speak.

Has he ever said or implied anything other than "every product is amazing and the best ever and the most successful"?

He's just complete PR & hyperbole quite frankly.
Totally useless information.

For many CEOs of big public companies, the words that come out of their mouths are always and only for the investors regardless of who they're actually speaking to.

The AirPods look incredible and frankly I'm not surprised. Heck I sort of want some. People seem to love theirs.

Also, I know that Apple could sell five of a product and still call it a "runaway success," or talk about it's "unprecedented demand." Alas.

I've been a huge Apple fan (and purchases of too many products to remember) for over 20 years, but I am completely fed up with the way Apple has designed, sold and handled their product launches the last couple of years and want to see some change. The culture of a company comes right from the top, and that's where I want to see some changes in 2017.

I want Apple to read MR and realize that there is a large group of consumers who are not happy, and are ready to jump ship to Dell, Microsoft, etc. That's the only way, in my opinion, this company will change. They seem to be eating their own dog food right now, so to speak.
Do you realize that a lot people in this forum totally disagree with you?

Unfortunately I'm NOT one of them.
