No, I'm sure there are some Mexican rapists, just as there are white rapists, Asian rapists, black rapists, rich rapists, poor rapists... you get the idea.

It's using "there are Mexican rapists" as an excuse for deporting illegal immigrants that I disagree with. Deport them, don't deport them, there are arguments for both sides. "Because some of them might be rapists/criminals" is stereotyping, and casting bad light on an entire group of people, and that, to me, is racism.

He has only stated he wants to deport VIOLENT ILLEGALS - get that in your head. There will be no GOONE squad going door to door to round people up to kick them out of the country - only DEMOCRATS do that stuff....http://www.npr.org/2015/09/10/439114563/americas-forgotten-history-of-mexican-american-repatriation

In 2013 Foxconn had 300,000 people just working on assembly lines churning out the iPhone 5S. Name me an equivalent city in the USA where that would be possible.

iPhone launched in 2007. Any reason it could not have been built in the USA?

Labour cost remains as the reason for why not, not cause apple had a crystal ball predicting its success in 2013 at the peaks . Or I should say apple high profit margins is the reason it's built in China in my opinion

Here's a real story that impacted someone: My sister-in-law is a school teacher who spent a few years in a non-white, non-rural, and certainly heavy Democrat area. She's been a very liberal thinker and voter but what caused her to shift her political views was a comment from one her students that went like this... "when I grow up I want to be like my daddy; sit on the couch, watch TV, and drink beer". It shocker her and made her think that what we've been doing for decades not only doesn't work, it's destroying people's futures.

Yes. Let's shape our beliefs based on one anecdote. Good thing the greeks invented the scientific method. There is no way Americans could have figured it out.

He's a private citizen. He's entitled to his own political beliefs, and to take whatever actions to support those beliefs that he so chooses. That's his prerogative—as an American citizen. Suggesting that he or anyone else (with the exception of federal employees) should "stay out of politics" spits in the face of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

No where have I have said that they don't have an option to exercise their Rights. I suggested Tim Cook stick to Apple issues. He can politic all he wants, but he should make it clear that he is doing so as Tim Cook, not Tim Cook CEO of Apple.

Suck it up Tim!!! The party is over. No more free stuff to people that do not want to work hard. You have to deserve to be able to get now.
That means I will get to keep my 6 figure salary out of conservative states,GREAT!

COLLEGE is over stated in our society. How many college grads with liberal arts studies make more money then a person who went to trade school and became a plumber or electrician - the people that hold these jobs are UNEDUCATED , you are nothing but a SNOB and

oh and when he made those comments he was a GOD forsaken DEMOCRAT. No one cared - DEMOCRATS can do that because to democrats is Party FIRST PARTY LAST PARTY ALWAYS - no care about the PEOPLE OR THE NATION.

I'm not any of those. I merely said to keep disparaging people who voted for Trump aren't all of those things. You're sore. I get it. I was sore when Obama won. It sucked but I survived it. Now I need to survive a Trump admin.

Holy broad brush batman! This type of comment is essentially why there was a ghost vote for Trump. They arent racist, selfish or bad at all. They just simply are sick and tired of being called all the things you just said. There is an entire world out there you apparently havent seen to believe this type of tripe. They either hang up on pollsters or lied to the pollster to give them the finger.

People shocked by this election need to do the exact same they claim the other side needs to do. Mix it up with the other side and talk. Quit being elitist.

(i was not a Trump supporter at all)

I'm from North Carolina. I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

I have traveled. I have lived in other places. I live in NC again now. I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Man you really are out of your mind. All I was pointing out that EDUCATION does not mean INTELLIGENCE - and that HARD WORK is far more important then EDUCATION.

Do you know why those jobs went to China - because our government was more hostile to business then the FREAKING COMMUNIST. If that doesn't get you to understand the problem with over powerful government controlling everything from DC nothing will.

It troubles me not at all that you are uninformed. Honestly.

By the way, here is how a free market works - we vote with our money. You know why every piece of clothing on your back is made in China or Indonesia? Because you shop at Walmart where everything is manufactured somewhere else. Would you pay 3x the price for your low fashion clothes just because it is made in the US?

You know how I know this is true? Because you don't drive a Tesla - the only "mass" produced car manufacturer who builds exclusively in the United States.

Who's going to build it? No one in the rust belt is educated enough to build anything right now. They relied on trade barriers and "whiteness" to get by. In the long run those things don't work. You actually have to be educated and that requires constantly upgrading your perspectives and ways of doing things. Otherwise you get left behind and you have no one to blame but yourself.
Percent college graduates by state:

Illinois - rust belt - 45.3%
Ohio - rust belt - 38.0%
Pennsylvania - rust belt - 43.9%
Michigan - rust belt - 37.2%
California - high tech? -- 37.9%

Trump's complaint, and shared by many others, has much more to do with Ford trying to move every single sedan sold in the USA to Mexican production plants than it has to do with building iPhones. Those aren't dirty, low-paying jobs we're talking about here.
Nope, Trump sold on the idea he can bring these jobs back. He talked about it and also coal. Yes he did talk also Ford plants. This won't change. USA was a powerhouse after the WWII because Europe/Japan were totally destroyed and the rest of the world did not have the capabilities. The world caught up and Americans want cheap products. The American labor is very expensive in comparison to other countries. So we gotta stop dreaming about this. USA can be competitive on new technologies and services. Building cars, iPhones, dishwashers, etc won't return at large scale. Better move on. I feel for the folks that are desperate but they have to adapt to the times.

Of course not. I didn't even categorize them as all one type. There are two basic categories. I'm sure there are some outliers.

But, those two categories? They're the reason Trump won.

Me? I am close to a 1percenter, baby. I'm gonna love it when they do away with AMT. If you don't know what that is, well, sorry about that.

Flat tax, dismantle social programs, privatize education (my kids are in private school). Let the good times roll.

it must have auto corrected that - and yes over stated. DAMN IT won't let me say over rated....

Or California could always secede and we'll see how it survives on its own. Scotland tried it, why not California?
Well, it has been said that if California did secede, it'd be the 8th largest economic power in the world, and we have lots of food production in-state, so I think we'd do pretty well.

You have no one to support your social programs - sorry but how much in debit is California today - just imagine if the USA said you can leave but only after you pay off all the debits you owe.....

Whites with no college voted 2-1 for Trump.
Across all races, college educated people voted 49-45 for Clinton.
Across all races, people with post graduate education voted 58-37 for Clinton.

Source: Exit polling data from New York Times.

In my humble opinion, these so called educated people who voted for Clinton are idiots. They are voting against their own interests.

Two main categories huh? So the union folks in MI and WI who voted for Obama but turned to Trump are now white uneducated racists? The across the board increases of support for Trump from 2012 among all nonwhites is self hating xenophobes? The increase for support from women from 2012 now are just self haters who dont mind their P&ssies being grabbed?

The Trump win is far more complicated than people are just rubes. People voted one way for a multitude of reasons and it just may not be what Sally Kohn said on MSNBC. It's Hillary, the political machine we all have grown to despise over the past 20 yrs. The lack of trust in the media platforms as it becomes more and more fragmented and partisan.

Yes. Let's shape our beliefs based on one anecdote. Good thing the greeks invented the scientific method. There is no way Americans could have figured it out.
We're talking about a devoted liberal here who has revised her thinking. Maybe she didn't take any Greek scientific method classes, though. BTW, how many of these rural, white, uneducated Trump voters have you sat down with to construct your view according to Greek scientific methods?

As the generation that had first hand experience with Fascism has no died off, it quickly reappears. The Relative peace in the world since the last great WW2 is about over. As a person near 80, I do remember.

Our beautiful country is in for some very difficult times.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, someone always pipes up... so I'll say it.

The differences between WWII and now are myriad even as there periodically appear similarities that may seem like flashbacks. I too am of the generation that remembers that war. And so naturally enough I was steeped in the history of that war's genesis just by being at the dinner table of my grandparents as the politics of war and peace were discussed.

Here and today: there are some rowdies out there since the election but most of us got up and made coffee and went to work because that's what was on the calendar. I hope that Mr. Trump's presidency will be successful but I also sure God hope he gets a different speechwriter for his overseas appearances than he had on the day he announced his run for President (or was that the authentic Donald Trump talking that trash?).

We may indeed be in for some "interesting" times in the states just now, and the world seems to be having trouble keeping its shirt on too. But as far as the US goes, the great thing about three branches of government is that there are bound to be some subversives in the bunch no matter who's got the grip on a majority. Here's to the messy, noisy, democratic uncertainties of the USA. If we can't beat it, we can criticize it anyway and work towards the contests of another day. So far it works and long may that remain the case.

By no means do I belittle the sense of your warning against fascism. No generation has a lock on it, and none is immune to its beguiling charms and deadly endpoints either. The USA may have elected Trump because some of us sought a "strongman" approach to resolution of its real and perceived problems. It remains to be seen whether the Congress is sufficiently aware of the downside of a strongman at the helm.

Heh, it could be Mr. Trump finds out exactly who is a strongman when push comes to shove in a showdown over an legislative issue, you never know. My money might be on Mitch McConnell, who's as partisan as they come except when the chips are really down for the country itself, and then he usually makes a pretty decent move in my experience. On balance, I'm pretty sure some lessons learned all around the political spectrum will help us get through the next four years together.

And on that note I have to say I thought Tim Cook's letter was wonderful.
