I agree with the sentiment, but wishing for something doesn't make it any more realistic to do so. There's no way that Apple can manufacture products like the iPhone in the US. Our country long ago gave up its leadership in manufacturing and we simply don't have the capacity to produce most Apple products at the speeds, volumes, and quality levels Apple gets from companies in China. Even if Apple could magically teleport a Foxcon manufacturing facility to the US, I doubt many Americans would be willing to do that sort of work for that sort of pay. Conversely, if those hypothetical workers were paid decent wages, an iPhone would cost $2000.
For everyone who has mentioned that Apple's workplace practices are unfair or abusive, are you willing to pay $2000 for that next iPhone (don't think it would be that much but whatever)?

Being PRSI I will post here what was deleted from another thread but was on-topic. The policies Trump (the Republicans generally) proposes to do is vastly in favour of Apple. Repatriating the overseas funds, lowering the business tax rate, full expensing, etc.

It is also vastly in favour of the employees of Apple with proposed changes to health care plans that allow reduced cost and increased access, less federal involvement.

The proposals to fiscal policy changes will improve economic activity and employment, especially for minorities and impacted groups. Thus Apple will sell more devices than ever as well.

It is hard to predict just how powerful the changes to education will be because it is such a central issue to our society, but any improvement to education will be most welcome.

Hillary supporters unknowingly love Trump

As for TC, I really don't mind him addressing the issue. Who knows what's going on in Apple offices, and water coolers.

Where I work, people are spending hours discussing the election, all this while they are suppose to be working.

Didn't he attend fundraising events for both the Republicans and Democrats? Way to play it safe for your business and then say "everything will be alright".

Things will be alright indeed, corporations like Apple will be getting massive tax cuts thanks to Trump getting elected.

Suck it up Tim!!! The party is over. No more free stuff to people that do not want to work hard. You have to deserve to be able to get now.

Americans kill me. Always believing the myth that poor people are the problem. Yet they shovel billions of free money to corporations with little or nothing to show for it. And to top it off, believe those corps need lower (even more free money) because life for them is so hard.

Haha this is funny. There will still be spoils; they'll just go to different people. There's a reason Trump never talked about entitlements or discretionary spending. His supporters in Appalachia and the Rust Belt aren't anti welfare they just think it's going to the wrong people. They want their 'Obama phone' too. They'll happily support huge tariffs too stupid to know it will come back to bite them with higher prices at their local Walmart. The Tea Party revolted over Obama' s stimulus package. These Trump supporters will be first in line to support shovel ready jobs when he proposes them.

I didn't vote for Trump but why do I get the feeling had Hillary won Tim Cook wouldn't have sent a letter like this to employees? Maybe people in the Bay Area need to wake up and realize not everyone thinks or votes like them? Or California could always secede and we'll see how it survives on its own. Scotland tried it, why not California?
Pretty much, I really don't care for Trump, but the crying child thing has to stop - none of this would be going on if Clinton had won by a thin margin, leaving the other half of the country feeling cheated, no one would be calling for a reform of the electoral system, no one would be yelling "the sky is falling" in the streets. It's done, if you don't like what he has to propose, then protest, but until the next election he's the guy in charge.

Is it?

What are the reasons for them manufacturing overseas?

Ar you saying it would be just as easy for them to manufacture the iPhone in the US as it is to manufacture in China?

No omg that's the issue, we have become a nation where we lose everything to China now.

For the last time I am not saying we should start building phones here, yet anyway.

The problem is it's ok for China to pay someone 32cents a day to pump out idevices. We can't compete and it will only get worse.

But hey as long as we have our iPhones it's ok

Clinton got over 6 million fewer votes than Obama in 2012. Trump basically matched Romney's total. And Democrats can't blame super delegates because those same super delegates gave them Obama in 2008. Bottom line is Clinton was a horrible candidate who couldn't turn out minorities and young people and ignored working class people in the upper Midwest. I didn't vote for Trump or support his message but at least he had one. She had none and spent most of her time in the witness protection program because she was such a terrible campaigner. But we found out the support for Obama wasn't transferable to Clinton. He turned people out to vote, she didn't.

Always believing the myth that poor people are the problem.

Are you saying that poverty is not a problem?

Having millions of people living off of the government for most of their lives is not a good thing.

Old mothers having babies when their last child is about to turn 18 just so they don't lose their benefits is a problem.

Welfare mothers encouraging their teenage children to get pregnant just for the government benefits is a problem.

It basically turns them into government whores, and makes the already poor, more poor.

Tim hears the music about to stop. Cook quotes King like they are in the same category. He is just an arrogant greedy corporate tool. That memo proves it.

Hey Tim, at least Trump doesn't keep all his money in Ireland. You could learn something there.

As the generation that had first hand experience with Fascism has no died off, it quickly reappears. The Relative peace in the world since the last great WW2 is about over. As a person near 80, I do remember.

Our beautiful country is in for some very difficult times.
You lived through 2 bushs, Clinton, Nixon, carter, Reagan and others. You are scared of trump? Do you not see where our country has gone in the last 80 years?

Because unlike prior elections, one of the candidates went out of their way to disparage a huge portion of the country because of things they absolutely cannot change, like their race and where their parents came from. There's a major difference between saying you disagree on how to pay for a highway and saying someone must be suspicious because they are black, Latino or Arab. I wasn't a target of any of his nonsense, but I could understand the explosive danger of saying we should allow police to randomly stop people and physically search them based on race because it makes statistical sense. It's disgusting. And spare me the "mainstream media" nonsense. It was spoken about right in the debate. If you're comfortable with "stop and frisk" then that's on you.
...and don't forget all those women who can't change anything about their gender either ;)

Actually he did nothing of the kind you suggest.

What actually happened, and I know its hard to believe, is that the other political side (democrats and republicans) and the media lied and lied and lied about the issues in order to try to stay in power.

A lot of people are actually tired of seeing this type of phony irresponsible leadership at the top and all of the racial hatred from the current administration. If liberals were actual open minded instead of just pretending to be open minded, then we would all be better off.

Today the political elite (republicans and democrats) are the ones trying to create racial and economic divide. Trump is not part of that elite, yet. We'll see if he does a good job, but if you wanted social equality and racial harmony, there was only one candidate, Trump, that has a chance against the years of decline brought on by 60's liberals wanting to dominate and get back at the world, instead of making the world a better place.

On the other hand I can see why people are disappointed with the election, free handouts will be much more restricted and a lot of capable people will actually have to start provided some value in order to eat instead of making up worthless causes to protest against and sit back and receive their free government checks. Checks, which as a bankrupt country we can no longer afford.

I see you left out the billions we give to corps. Yes keep following the narrative of the "welfare queens" Just ignore the fact that we currently pay for corps to move operations overseas. They have been fleecing this country for decades.

I do not say people on welfare is a good thing. But please, next time you talk about welfare.... mention ALL those who abuse it. Not just poor people.

I'm totally against Trumps back door talk..clearly he misspoke and didn't know all the technical facts, and shut his mouth quick.

But I agree with Apple bringing some jobs back to the US. They don't even store their globs of cash here, they bank overseas to avoid the higher tax penalties.

They don't make a single idevice in the states, they probsbly don't make anything here anymore except for a few Macs. It's shameful to be honest.

It's easy to say Apple should produce products in the US but most could cry like crazy if they raised their prices because of it. Look at how people reacted to the news of the little price increase on the latest MBPs. You'd see an even larger one if they were made in the US.

The Mac Pro is made in the US. Again, there were tons of complaints about the pricing.

People want made in the US but they're generally unwilling to pay the extra cost of labor involved.

I think google is working on creating their own land mass for a reason.
