Trump first needs to separate himself from the huge conflict of interest he has with being the commander and chief, and owning large businesses, before he should start dictating what other businesses can and should do.

I read somewhere (sorry I can't reference it now) that he is stepping down from his position at his company before taking office. That said, it would be naive to think he wont retain some sort of control and direction in his businesses.

The reason iPhones aren't made in America is simple: Americans sucks at manufacturing. They have for years.

No. Americans do not "suck" at manufacturing any more than the Chinese or Indonesians or Mexicans or Philippines or any other heavy manufacturing company. The reason low cost consumer items are not made in the U.S. is the same reason they are not made in Japan any more or Germany, or other once manufacuring hubs -- it's not cost effecient. It has nothing to do with ability.

Many of the nations where our consumer goods come from do not have the same humane labor laws as the U.S., Europe, Japan, and former UK territories. At the same time the latter overreached for labor too much. The exporting of jobs was a reaction to the ever continuing layering of worker rights, unfortunately to their detriment because they ended up with rights but no job. It became more than protecting workers from unfair labor practices. So maybe if labor and business w/ gov't mediating can get talking we can bring manufacturing back. But don't blame American workers's skills for the reason manufacturing has diminished in the country.

I grew up in Southern California, and I worked in the Silicon Valley. In theory, that would make me a liberal, but I also served in the military, so that balanced my perspective. As I've grown older, I inherited my father's interest in world events and politics. I have friends that are 'died-in-the-wool' conservatives and bleeding-heart liberals. I love them both as friends, but I've noticed that liberals are typically hypocrites. They wave the flag for diversity but when others disagree with their particular view; they throw a hissy fit. So much for their intellectual and caring ideology.
Both sides are wrong, not just the Liberals. I seen a lot of 'actual' racists, sexist, and closed minded people. They are completely ignored by both groups. True diversity happens when we stop caring about race, gender, and religion. There needs to be a middle ground between social justice and Freedom of Speech.
If your out there rioting and calling Trump a bigot - Your are wrong
If you are just blatantly calling all Liberals SJWs or Communists - you are wrong.

How'd that fundraiser work out Tim? Did it go the way you thought it would? No? Perhaps you should lead Apple, stay out of politics unless it's regarding the governments over reaching attempts to weaken iOS security. If you haven't noticed Tim you recently just got out Appled by Microsoft.
Cook did fundraisers for both parties so I think it doesn't matter. There is a bit of hypocrisy on his letter. Since the race was so close, he made it seem like this letter would've been issued regardless of the election outcome but he would not have sent it out if Clinton had won. Not sure what that means exactly.

The only long term issue I worry about is Trump's denial of climate change vs. Apple's stance on environmental issues. Will Apple continue to push themselves and industry even if they don't receive tax credits and have to fight their own government to do the right thing?

He will.

"If I become president, I couldn't care less about my company. It's peanuts. I want to use that same — up here, whatever it may be — to make America rich again, and to make America great again. I have Ivanka and Eric and Don sitting there. Run the company, kids. Have a good time. I'm going to do it for America. ... I would put it in a blind trust. Well, I don't know if it's a blind trust if Ivanka, Don and Eric run it. But — is that a blind trust? I don't know. But I would probably have my children run it with my executives. And I wouldn't ever be involved, because I wouldn't care about anything but our country. Anything."

Tim bashed Trump during the campaign and now Tim doesn't want to mess up with him.

And now Americans sucks at mass manufacturing here and now. Even if it were cheaper, Apple wouldn't do it here. Foxconn and HTC are too good at it.

If you can't see that there are hypocrites in ample and probably equal supply on both sides of the fence, then you reek of hypocrisy yourself to claim you have a "balanced" viewpoint. Ironically, it's the people who claim to have a "balanced" viewpoint that often exhibit plenty of bias. Sort of like a certain news network...

After all, haven't conservatives for decades been trying to claim the religious and moral high ground? Then they go and back a crass, non-religious, serial adulterer with a taste for gluttony and excess. Go figure.

When Tim stepped into the political spectrum, I called out that this would be problematic at best. Now, here we are. After clearly supporting one candidate over the other (and having that candidate lose) now puts the company on edge. We don't know what the new administration will do (not sure they do either), but Apple and Tim's ability to influence is severely limited now. This was bad then and is still bad today. It is right for the employees to be nervous. Tim -- stop the politics and run the business or get out of business and go run for office. I would support either one, but now way does both at the same time work.

He did have fundraising events for both parties. He fundraised for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan(Republican), He fundraised for Clinton(Democrat), and offered technical support for the DNC convention while withholding it from the GOP convention, stating Trump as the reason.

Garbage like what TC just said is part of the reason why Trump got elected. The pubic are sick of the rich elite running the show without putting the neds of everyone first.

TC needs to either play politics or be CEO of Apple. Not both. TC trying to do both as well as support Clinton was not going to help Apple at all.
All CEOs play politics by hiring lobbyists. The only difference with Cook is that he puts his own neck on the line instead of hiding behind a corporation. You may not like that but I respect it even though I disagree with his politics in general. Or do you prefer he buys politicians with promises and suitcases full of money in secret without letters like this or speeches declaring his own values?

Trump doesn't pay all of his taxes either.
Let's keep in mind the current tax code was created by both parties. No one has ever demonstrated or really even asserted that Trump doesn't pay all of the taxes which the tax code dictates he pay. Further, it's been shown he pays all kinds of other taxes apart from the federal income tax where he's had a long-standing capital loss write-off.

Clearly Trump has no influence on those people at all. Parents never influence their kids right?

Again,

He should resolve his conflict of interest before working to change policy.

Why does the party of "less government" seem to be hell bent on overreaching?

If they want a capitalist society, they have to deal with the ramifications of that society, such as corporations making fiscal policies that benefit their shareholders.

I'm not sure anyone here really wants an iPhone produced in the US. People already gripe enough about the costs of these products and they're largely made in the cheapest manufacturing country in the world.

what other choice do you have? Suck it up!

In reality - trump will not implement a lot of his so called policies - purely because they were hot air BS. Not possible yet his voters lapped it all up.

He will turn down his rhetoric - he has to if he really wants to unite the usa. He won't continue on being the loud mouth the world has seen.

At the end of four years - he most likely won't be as bad as the doom Sayers think - but then he probably won't be the best - by a long shot - president the usa has ever had.
The most accurate analysis yet. And I'm not fan of Trump. But its painfully obvious a lot of his talk was to energize a less than intelligent voter base and get them excited. For that he totally succeeded.

This is a load or horse ****. Trump IS part of the elite. The same elite that has fooled poor white people into believing they are the same as rich white people. It's a lie that has stagnated this country's growth since slavery was abolished. This same lie has been used by Trump masterfully to fool the GOP voters that "others" are the reasons for their lot in life. You have been fleeced by rich people and told that 'hey it's that brown person who's the problem.'

This country spends BILLIONS setting up puppet governments overseas who oppress their own to look out for US corporate interests. And Then we get shocked when they revolt. Do our corporate elites admit we caused our own problems with extremists? Nope.

Trump will not solve anything. He is part of the problem.
He's not part of the "elite"... he's from Queens.

If he sets it up as a blind trust I am not so sure if family will be allowed to run the company. He himself mentions that he doesn't quite understand the nuances of what it takes for a blind trust. That quote was taken nearly six months ago, when at the time the election was a toss up. I am sure your question/concern will be adequately addressed before January 21st, 2017.

Soon we're gonna see a Macbook Pro, Hillary edition. It will be blue, and leave you hanging, in the time you need it most. It will be excellent at permanently deleting your emails, and the only keys that will not work well will be the S, J, and W. The slogan will be "grab the apple by the poosy". It will come with a card game called "the victim card", and will Trump all MBPs before it.

Just got word that the man designing this Mac, goes by the name of Ben Ghazi, but at this point, what difference does it make who designs it. It's been in the making for so long, that four men have died waiting for it's arrival.

The first 5 buyers will receive free furniture from a company called "white house". The cost is said to be a 16 hundred dollar Bills and if you get to the Apple store on time, you might be able to witness the winner of the Mac sweepstakes, a man by the name of Lou, win skis, for his all paid expense trip to slippery slope mountain.

I've been told that she thinks her signature Mac is so nice, she passed out. This Mac is so nice it sets the bar so high, it shatters the glass ceiling.

There are a couple of hardware upgrades to it that makes it stronger together. She thinks those upgrades are worth is, so I'm with her.

I really think this Mac has the potential to make Apple great again.

Americans are sick of elites running the show, so they elected a billionaire who hasn't contributed a cent in taxes since 1995, who refuses to pay small contractors, who rips off the "students" of his fake "university"?

The American people elected Trump because they're %{^#*}^\^ dumb. And within 4 years his terrible economic policies will have us back in a recession. Huge tax cuts for corporations will have us back where we were after Bush in 2008. It took us 8 years to crawl out of that economic hole.
