I didn't vote for Trump but why do I get the feeling had Hillary won Tim Cook wouldn't have sent a letter like this to employees? Maybe people in the Bay Area need to wake up and realize not everyone thinks or votes like them? Or California could always secede and we'll see how it survives on its own. Scotland tried it, why not California?

Why wouldn't California make it on their own? It's larger than many actual countries, it has Silcon Valley, it has agricultural areas, it has Hollywood. In fact, it might do better if it were an independent country and didn't have to pay federal taxes.

We couldn't survive 4 more years of Obama's dictator socialist policies that were destroying this country

Thank GOD voters made their voice heard and the lamestream media was proven so so so wrong with all their BS polls
People like you, if there are any among Apple's employees, are the reason for this memo.

The American people elected Trump because they're %{^#*}^\^ dumb. And within 4 years his terrible economic policies will have us back in a recession. Huge tax cuts for corporations will have us back where we were after Bush in 2008. It took us 8 years to crawl out of that economic hole.
People like you, if there are any among Apple's employees, are the reason for this memo.

I will never accept Trump. There will be no unity. We will fight this racist piece of s*** until his last day in office. If Apple embraces this fascist pig then I'll boycott Apple.

I'm pretty sure people called for unity when Hitler ceased power in Germany. Trump is wrong. We will oppose him at every moment in his presidency.
Hitler "ceased" power in Germany when the Soviets stormed Berlin. Not sure unity had anything to do with that.

I read somewhere (sorry I can't reference it now) that he is stepping down from his position at his company before taking office. That said, it would be naive to think he wont retain some sort of control and direction in his businesses.
In 1995, his company lost $1 billion dollars. He passed it on to his shareholders and walked away with tax-free status since then.

Now, the American people are his shareholders. He'all screw us and somehow come out ahead, because Trump is about Trump.

And American manufacturing couldn't keep up with the iPhone demand. They just couldn't.

Well, based on what? Your hypothesis of "America sucks"? Because iPhones have never been manufactured here for you to have any data ponts for your position. But it seems just a bit silly to suggest Americans, who build world renowned products like Boeing jets, Ford trucks, Harley motorcycles, among others, don't have the ability to make iPhones.

I think TRUMP is right that Apple should make products in the US. Apple sells products at a premium price, and they all have that little "Desgined in California" tag on them, but how about Made in California or USA? Germany, sells premium products such as BMW, Leica and others, and these are sold at premium prices, but made in Germany. Why can't Apple do it?

You're trying to compare 2.6 million Ford trucks to 72 million iPhones sold every year?

It's apparent you're really bad with numbers, which is totally okay, but let me help you.
72 million >> 2.6 million

My post of FaceBook:

To my friends and family, some who voted for someone that didn't win, here's my advice:

Exact your reaction to the election by living your life to the be the best person you can be. It isn't some person in the White House's job to make your life better. That's your job.

Study, learn, grow. Become the person you always wanted to be, and realize that action relies on you, not the President.

Two days ago, it was a choice between Bad and Worse, but today it is a choice between good and great. What it takes to be great is just 2% more effort and a good attitude. Make the choice to be happy, whether your candidate won or lost.

Just in case you're wondering, my candidate lost 6 months ago.

Hillary deserved to lose after what she did to Bernie. In a way, I'm glad karma played out that way to that crooked bitch. However, I can't fathom the idea of DONALD TRUMP being president, LOL, what a joke.

As the generation that had first hand experience with Fascism has no died off, it quickly reappears. The Relative peace in the world since the last great WW2 is about over. As a person near 80, I do remember.

Our beautiful country is in for some very difficult times.
This is deeply disturbing, equally prescient, and yet gives voice to the nausea many are feeling around the world.

Production numbers are scalable -- just outfit the factory more machines, hire more people. It's the skills to use the equipment and build units with mimimal fail rates that matters and on that, yes, American manufacturing has proven it can build very sophisticated products as quick as anyone else.

Again, you really have no concept of numbers. It's fine, you keep living in your fantasy world.

I guess my point is that it's unwise to set unrealistic expectations about a coming resurgence of US manufacturing jobs.
America has a pretty decent track record of surpassing unrealistic expectations. Defeating the British Empire and gaining our Independence, the Industrial Revolution, sending Man to the Moon. There's nothing wrong with supporting more American manufacturing. I understand what you are saying about not putting all your eggs in one basket, but you have to put some eggs in the baskets to get to the market. ;)

I mean no disrespect to my elders, but I am not sure I agree with your statement. This country has not seen any peace - mostly because it sticks its nose in everyone's business - since WW2. Just to remind you of all the wars since WW2 -
  • Korea
  • Vietnam
  • Grenada
  • Bosnia
  • Lebanon
  • Iraq
  • Iraq again
  • Afghanistan
And that does not include the proxy wars in south america and africa.

As someone who is american thanks to the proxy war between kennedy and nikita in Cuba, I too remember. This is the thing. We need to get to a place where there is more civility and harmony. Tim's approach of being a capitalist CEO while trying to play liberal politics on the side is certainly not the answer.

Your going to be disappointed - you'll see a lot of backtracking and u-turns on trump. More than average for a leader.

I wouldn't be disappointed. I hope to hell you're right, but I don't think anyone is positioned to predict the devastation he will or will not cause.

How many business have you successful ran. Yeah he failed in a few. He couldn't have failed too many seeing how he made billions and employed thousands.

You don't have to have a successful business to make money.

If you have money to start with, which he does, he can make tons. Here's how it works, and what he's done:

Open a business with $500,000 of his own money... get a business loan of credit....

Rent out the facilities, hire employees, etc. - pay for all merchandise on CREDIT.

When you buy merchandise for $300,000 a month and have sales of $200,000 per month, don't pay any of that off. Make the minimum payment of $30,000 a month, and pay yourself a salary of $150,000 a month.

Rinse and repeat for 2 years. Now your debt is 3 million+, but you've gotten $4 million+ salary all for yourself.

Declare bankruptcy. The 3 million in debt is wiped out as that is COMPANY debt. Your personal accumulation of $4 million + is kept since it's your PERSONAL income.

That's what he's done most of his career, along with putting his name on things and taking profits in a similar way.

The only thing that he really earned money on early in his career was real estate, which he got his initial seed money from his dad - $14 million, which he calls 'a small sum'

I wish people would actually look into Trump. Nobody who supports him does. They just go on assumptions. Trump intentionally deceives people by saying suggestive words. Like 'I got a small sum of money from my dad', How much? 'A small sum'. That's all he says, and his supporters think it's a small sum by THEIR standards - that's how he tricks people. Maybe $14 million is a small sum to a billionaire, but not to anyone else!

He did have fundraising events for both parties. He fundraised for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan(Republican), He fundraised for Clinton(Democrat), and offered technical support for the DNC convention while withholding it from the GOP convention, stating Trump as the reason.
Correct. He also attended the American Enterprise Institute’s World Forum whose main purpose was to determine the best way to keep Trump out of office. His position has been consistent; trying to keep negative forces (Trump) from gaining power, working with those (President-elect Trump) in power (even if he does not agree with them) and legally resisting those (FBI) who would seek to damage Apple.

I find it slightly amusing that the same people threatening to have California secede are the ones who accused Texans of being crazy nut-cases for wanting the same thing, when they wanted to protect their more conservative values from a liberal assault.

I voted Libertarian, so in that sense - "Not my circus, not my monkeys." But obviously, as long as I'm a U.S. citizen, I'm actually stuck hanging around these circus grounds, so it still affects me.

IMO, there was no way around piles of problems, whether we elected Donald or Hillary this year. So far though? I actually see some promising things in the list NPR published today of Trump's claimed agenda once he takes office. He's suggesting a law requiring removing two government regulations for each new one somebody wants to create. Yes, PLEASE! There are FAR too many laws on the books already, and keeping a law like this in place for at least the next 4 years would do a lot to drain the proverbial swamp. Force legislators to look at the volumes of laws already out there whenever they decide they'd like to add one more to the collection!

And mandatory term limits for Congress and the Senate? Again, YES! The fact some of them are *already* complaining about it illustrates how badly they want to cling onto government positions as the way to "get paid for life", rather than because they care about serving the public.

Some of his other stuff, like "making Mexico repay us for the cost of building a wall between us"? Well, that sounds plain ridiculous to me. I mean, sure -- you can send them a bill but don't expect to ever see a dime. Make no mistake. If we build that wall, it's at U.S. taxpayer expense, plus the cost of all the additional border patrol guards hired to go with it. But you know? A lot of people are really going for the whole idea, believing it really will help with our job situation, etc. If enough other government over-reach and over-regulation is trimmed back, I'm ok with letting them blow some $'s on this silly experiment.

I'm not sure why everyone gets so hung up on where these things are screwed together. I'm not sure that is a huge part of the cost. The R&D, Component Costs, Marketing, Sales mark up, etc... are at least 85% of costs of the final product.

Again, you really have no concept of numbers. It's fine, you keep living in your fantasy world.

You haven't really demonstrated anything more than you you realize 2.6 million is smaller than 72 million. Of course, you don't seem to want to acknowledge that it's a much longer process to make a truck or jet than an iPhone. Apple can easily push out 500K iPhones per day because they are small and quick to assemble, unlike someting more complicated like a truck which takes a couple days to assemble.

Also you are the one trying to prove a negative here -- that somethign can't be done. So since you are the brilliant numbers guy why don't you give me some emprical evidence that a company can produce iPhones in China but not in the U.S.

It seems all you can come up with are insults to posters.
