The only thing Yukari Kane hoped to accomplish is selling lots of copies of the book so she could make lots of money. I, for one, will not be supporting her folly. The last thing I would want to do is spend money where a part of it might end up in her pocket.

Basically, her book is no different than the outrageous web article headlines that get worded just to generate click revenue. Don't spend your money for this nonsense!

he is one of those people that can't naturally smile. Some people look great and natural when they smile, others (like tim) have to force it.

Cook should've avoided addressing this book altogether unless it truly gained steam in the press. He's acknowledged this attention-seeking "author."

It has. Cnbc pushed it. Same with NPR. Others have pre-announced it. It's been discussed for weeks. This wouldn't have been an off the cuff remark; rather, there would have been a discussion about how best to address such a hatchet job, by people who actually know what they're doing.

Free advertisement for a lousy book. Good job timmy.

Why Oxy?

Book is fine. 8Gb iphone 5C is nonsense.

Apropos of nonsense.....

For those defending this book...the author claims that Steve wanted Cook to be CEO because he didn't think Cook would do as good of a job as he did; that his legacy would be complete if Apple faded after he died. Do people here actually believe Steve wanted Apple to decline after he died?

There are always people with really strange ways of thinking. Some people find it easy to believe. Some people think all the moon landings were fake. Some think that MRS gives your kids Alzheimer. That's the extra stupid ones who confuse Alzheimer with Asperger. So yes, some people will believe her.

why issue a general statement when the book is nonsense?

Because that is the appropriate response. Not too much, not too little.

She also thinks Apple is doomed because Cook let's employees take vacation.

Tim Cook nailed it. This book is nonsense. It should be removed from all bookshelves and estores because it's utterly disgusting to see someone profiteering from attacking Apple with such nonsense. Seriously how do people get away with peddling such nonsense and making money from it?

Definitively Apple is declining, grabbing 80% of all the money in the smartphone business. On the other hand Google/Android/Samsung are winning the war grabbing just 18% of the money in the smartphone market.

Apple is definitively decadent, grabbing 85% of the money in the tablet business, 75% of the money in MP3/MP4 player business, the majority of money in the desktop computer market, the majority of money in the portable computer market, the majority of the money in the multimedia/TV market, the App Store that gives a revenue 6 times larger than Android's, you name it.

There is not a single market Apple is on where they are not draining all the money to their coffers.

I hope my company be as decadent as Apple. I would be crying over piles of $1000 bills so hard that my tears would smudge the ink.

I am not sure what this has to do with anything the author has said. Microsoft is still generating piles of cash and is still a very successful business, but I don't think anyone would argue that they have declined greatly in the last decade from their peak during the dot-com era.

Apple may have reached their peak with the iPad and be on their way to being the next Microsoft. The last few years while they have been incredibly profitable, they have been pretty stagnent in comparison to their rapid ascension at the end of the last decade with the success of the iPod, then iPhone, then iPad. Nothing they've done since can really be considered revolutionary in the same sense.

Huh? 2003, 2007, 2010......at least wait until the end of the year to declare the patient dead.

Are you a new reader of books? Seriously - I think it's because it's about Apple you're being so concerned with integrity. Where's the outcry about the other 1,000s of books that peddle nonsense and make money from it :)

Tim Cook is starting to sound like the Iraqi Information Minister. Do you remember him? He said things like "There are no American tanks in Baghdad. American troops are retreating." When he said that, an American tank rolled past behind where he was speaking to CNN reporters.

If there are no problems at Apple, the best response would have been no response.

Don't get me wrong, I think Tim did a fantastic job as the COO but I'm not sure he is the right fit for the CEO job. I think he needs to move on. Apple needs someone with vision and passion at the top.

If he was half as passionate about Apple products as he is with his social/political causes then he might be doing a better job. Maybe he needs to move to becoming an activist since that appears to be what he cares the most about.

I comment on these issues when I become aware of them. I'm not going to list 1,000 other books I have problems with. But I am very proud of Tim Cook for coming up with a very strongly worded response to this disgusting book.

I love how everyone here apparently can do better than Tim. Please explain me which internationally successful companies you guys run?

Steve Jobs was a man of no small ego. What do you think he would have thought of the troubles that Tim Cook is having now and the situation Apple finds itself in?

Do you think Steve Jobs would be taking a little pleasure in Tim Cook’s struggle?

Actually, I agree with her.
Her guess is as good as yours.
In fact, jobs picked Scully before.
So he is 2 for 2 in picking terrible CEOs.
Coincidence or design we will never know but fact remains.

Spot on !! It has been 4 years since the last "needle mover" product introduction (iPad), the stack price languishes under his "leadership" (whatever that may be), and his efforts at inspiring the WWDC crowds is feeling more and more ineffective. Dry, uninspiring, and with a questionable attitude towards the owners of the company.
