Not sure if it’s just me, but the Trump administration, for all its flaws, appears willing to go after governments and entities who pose threats to US big tech. The numerous lawsuits that Apple were facing previously seem to be slowly turning around.

First, the EU has agreed to accept Apple’s latest revision of the DMA, even though it doesn’t really seem that different from previous incarnations.

Now, we have the UK backing off on wanting Apple to install a back door in their OS. IIRC, the previous president elected not to do anything about it at all.

The next one to look out for is the recent injunction by that Judge Yvonne which forced Apple to allow third party payments in the US App Store.

At the end of the day, Tim Cook has a job to do. He’s not here to fight any of your political or ideological battles for you. And if that just means more heckles and ridicule from people here, then so be it.
It's sad the sacrifices you're justifying in the name of capitalism.

I LOVE THIS!!

Exactly the response it should get

Mockery

If you lie down with a dirty dog, you get fleas Tim.
The CEO of the company is catering to the current sitting president to help save his company billions in tariffs.. Are you seriously that close-minded of a person to make such an ignorant comment ?

You guys think Tim likes going to see Trump?

It seems most of the comments have not seen this part :
"Cook was derided on social media and in news articles for his bootlicking, but it has been successful for Apple. Apple continues to be largely exempt from the high tariffs that have been imposed on countries like China and India."

It's very easy to feel superior, pure and virtuous while sitting comfortably at home, but if the Big Mafia Boss comes to your company along with a bunch of thugs swinging baseball bats, and says "Nice company you have there. It would be a shame if something bad happened to it ", well, you pay the "protection" fee , because there is no police to protect you, the Don owns the police as well.

What would you have done instead ? Refuse and let him destroy Apple just to look like a heroic martyr ?
I actually feel bad for Tim Cook. He certainly knew he was going to be publicaly humiliated on social media , but he did what he had to do to protect Apple from the Orange Psychopath.

What would you have done instead ?
Dont bother, everyone here is the next CEO of a 4T market cap company, they know better. LMAO

I don't really don't care what he likes, he still does it. Do you remember when he chewed out an investor for asking him why Apple does so much for the environment. He got pissed and told him to go elsewhere. What happened to that Tim? How about joining some of the lawsuits that is trying to but a lid on this nonsense?

No, I don't think he likes it, and I don't think he likes Trump....but I have zero sympathy.

Anyway, I'm moving on from this as I don't even particularly like talking about politics. I grew up in a family of politicians, and my wife is one. I get enough of it elsewhere.

Yes Trump got more votes than Harris and Trump now is POTUS. But there were multiple candidates and less than half the voters wanted Trump to win. Simple math., not mental gymnastics that liberals do.

Folks like me [not a Dem] who consider having lifetime-corrupt DJT as POTUS truly horrible do try to do mental gymnastics to somehow make sense of the fact that our fellow citizens elected such a truly bad man. When everyone knew how bad ("I just grab 'em by the p*ssy") Trump was even before he was elected the first time.

I think you have a fantasty land view of politicians. If you think Trump making that statement is the worst thing a politician could say or do then you have your head buried. We have had Presidents start fake wars killing our soldiers, Presidents that sleep with a subordinate, then villainize her to effectively ruin her life. We have had Presidents who have lied, plagiarized, and simply made things up to get where they are. Trump is by no means a Saint and what he said was awful but its only becuase it was taped that people were outraged. Its not even close to being the worst thing a politician has ever said or done.

Can’t wait to check this episode out. Is it only Cook and Zuck? Or is there something dastardly for Bezos, Musk and Ellison? 😏

An industry leader gave a gift to an abuser in hopes he wouldn't abuse them more.
The CEO of the world's most valuable company gave a gift to the sitting president of the country in which his company is based, in exchange for saving his company billions in unwanted tariffs.

Fixed it for youlol

You're conveniently ignoring the fascist part, but thanks for adding the "lol" so I can for sure know ignoring these type of posts would have me better off.

I am with you on that -- I actually do feel bad for Cook. Unlike some of these CEOs who I think have actually gone MAGA (e.g. Zuckerberg, Bezos, etc.), I feel like Cook feels humiliated but has to do what's best for Apple. I might be naive about it, but everything Cook has ever done outside of business feels... not Trumpian.

Never feel bad for a man who rides on a private jet.

Trump signed an EO pausing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act so Cook was just taking advantage of that order.

What i would have done instead? History is full of examples of what can happen if you do not stand up to head of states with dictatorial ambitions. I grew up with that question in Germany.

You'll have to forgive us Americans.
We've had it way too easy for so long and nobody thinks "it" can happen here.

And then you have people listening to self serving devious loons like Carlson (below)

Remember when you talked about having Trans and other LGBTQ friends and how all the talk about the Administration going after them was fake/nonsense/etc and you ignored all evidence otherwise?

Yeah, how’d that turn out? Still going to jump to defend Trump on that?

No I do not think Trump's intentional on-air statement "is the worst thing a politician could say or do." It was simply one easy example of who he is, and then went on to get elected via strong support from organized Evangelical Christians; go figure.

Worse things that are why IMO Trump makes Nixon look good:
Everything he touches fails except his cons, even though he started with >$400M of daddy's money. Trump University, multiple bankruptcies, routinely failing to pay contractors, etc.
• He is a malignant narcissist that puts people in important government positions solely based on how well they kowtow to him; zero competence required. This weakens the USA.
• He attcks our allies, destroying alliances that took decades to build. That weakened the USA by giving away possible future negotiation points. A simple kiss-*ss to Putin, replicating his kiss-*ss at Helsinki during his first term.
• He idolizes evil strong dictatorial individuals like Putin, Maduro, etc.
• He behaves like a dictator and is making the USA into an authoritarian regime as fast as he can. This weakens the USA.
• He is reversing steps taken to integrate LGBTQ into the military. This weakens our military and the USA.
• He is a flat out racist, even going so far as to try to rewrite history. This weakens the USA.
• He is doing his best to make the USA less competitive in the area of green energy. This weakens the USA.
• He is reversing efforts to help reduce global warming (AGW). This weakens the USA.
Note from me: AGW will have catastrophic impacts on the lives of everyone younger than ~60 today.
• He corruptly kept Trump Corp in play during both his terms, and has now become even more blatant is his corruption with things like the Trump meme coin, etc.
• He goes after everyone that does not suck up to him, to the detriment of good governance. This weakens the USA.
• His blatant malignant narcissism allows foreign governments to play him like a fiddle. This weakens the USA.
• He publicly said Putin should get to keep Ukraine territory as soon as he was elected. This weakens the USA.
• He has been cutting science positions and data collection in the area of environmental science. This weakens the USA.
••• I could go on and on. I have watched Trump's sleaze since the days when he would pretend to be someone else and phone in gossip about himself to the NYC newspapers.

Note that each of those "This weakens the USA" comments are decades-long-term impacts. E.g. when a NOAA scientist leaves government for private industry that wealth of experience is not easily replaceable. Worse is the reality that the competent people leave and the incompetent ones remain and end up in charge for decades.

I'm just here to talk about the gift not who got it or why it was given. I don't understand why people are calling the gift tacky. I would love it if I was given some sort of award that was made with 24K gold. I love gold. Do you have any idea how much pure gold costs? 💰

South Park and Onion News are more and more realiable for learning what is happening in the US. Can you believe it 😂

MacRumors shouldn’t post anything political but maybe they need the clicks for ad revenue.
Some things juse cannot be explained without politics. How we talk about tariffs without politics. How we talk about Online Safety Act without politics. et cetera.

I was naive thinking apple would be honorable and atleast avoid trump and certainly not bow down and give him gifts lol. what a disgrace.

I understand trump is running the us like some kind of mob boss and there is a good chance you’ll be squashed if you don’t fall in line but I guess I thought apple was better than that.

I guess all that matters is money.
