This is like when they put suicide nets on the iPhone manufacturing buildings in China.

It's uncurious.

Aren't they curious *why* someone would want to leak? I mean it's pretty boring information these days anyway. It's not like, there's this big secret, I've got to tell someone. The new iPhone 13 is coming!

It can't be that satisfying of a job if you go out of your way to leak your own company's info.

Maybe Apple doesn't care about the right things. And maybe the employees don't like that.

To me, it seems like they don't care about software quality. That would bother me if I worked at Apple.

Not so nice to have your privacy violated, is it Tim? Perhaps though there should be monitoring of internal Apple communications on the off chance that there might be a crime.
If you believe the statements made by that former Apple Engineer that was fired a couple weeks ago, Apple already does this. Part of the terms of employment is turning over your Apple ID and password not just for your work devices but personal as well.

agreed.
Apple was so much smaller before the iPhone launched. Sadly, that cozy 'little' company that could pull off amazing surprises isn't coming back any time soon. Apple should adapt to its new self, new size and new enormous supply chain and just accept that total secrecy will not be possible in the future.

Basically, they won capitalism and they have nothing to gain from publicly crushing a few leaker-losers.
There are tons of competition in laptops, smartphone, table, smartwatch, etc markets so it is important to keep secrets. If the competition knows what you are doing or working on, it is very easy to put a clone or similar feature on the market in a matter of weeks! This hurts Apple, both financially and as a brands. The whole secrecy is not intended just to provide a surprise to the the customers but to keep important IP behind the scene until the product is ready for shipping.

I understand Apple's frustration. They dedicate so much resources (probably millions of dollars and working hours) to keep the secrets, and a random intern or secretary ruins everything in a second because she shared something with its nephew.

Leaks are an internal job. In fact they are part of the marketing strategy at this point.

Apple is only refining technologies that are at least 4-5 years old for Android OEMs.

So there's no reason to believe that anyone stands to gain from these leaks other than Apple themselves.

I find this such a strange statement? Apple absolutely wipes the floor with Android SoCs, things like build quality are a step above their Android counterparts. They have the latest modems. This seems like a dig at the 120Hz refresh rates which granted probably took longer than it should have to arrive but when it came it was done perfectly.

There's nothing I see in Android phones that is superior at this point aside from under display finger print readers. But to say the tech is 5-6 years old is totally incorrect and reads like trolling.

Any company has the right to stop and prosecute leakers. My problem is that there is nothing interesting to leak from Apple these days. What, do I want to be disappointed early? I don't mind waiting until the actual release.

"e our contributions in the lives we change, the connections we foster, and the work we do to leave the world a better place."

Sometimes Tim makes me wanna puke, the guy is repeating the same old crap, you are not leaving the world a better place...NOT.

Seriously? You don’t think it’s great that now you have a full-blown computer in your pocket that let’s you summon a car, video call a loved one, provide navigation directions, read all the latest news, watch almost any movie or tv show, etc., all from anywhere you happen to be?

50 years.

That image of Tim Cook is abysmal.

He looks so sad, and like a dictator.

Books on the desk being held down by some kind of paperweight?

Obligatory plant at the side of the frame but so dull.

They should have at least used Apple’s new Photographic Styles to boost the colors.

What fame and fortune? Do you know the names of these leakers?
Ok, they do it out of narcissism or some other motivation. They aren’t leaking it to be good corporate citizens drawing a paycheck. Not to mention they’re likely violating their employment agreement.

Mad Tim.
It's all about the bucks, kid. The rest is conversation.

The line:

This comes after a product launch in which most of the details of our announcements were also leaked to the press.

Is very telling. Not 'some' or 'many' - most. In the same year that leakers seem to be getting a very hard time for getting things wrong (especially the flat-sided watch that never happened), Tim thinks it was a particularly bad year for leaking.

Absolutely not. It was most definitely a last minute change made due to production issues. There is STACKS of evidence to support that.
Says who? Manufacturing at Apple’s scale means that if any issues arise, they would be detected months in advance. Apple works on devices two to three years ahead of the current release. The design and testing for Series 7 was locked in probably during the filming of the presentation for Series 6.

Now that Series 7 is out, Apple might be working on S9 and it’s testing, while coming up with ideas for S10.

Tim Cook at work, sitting behind a 32" 5k iMac Pro M2x with Matching 5k Thunderbolt 4 Monitor, while interacting with angrily written text optically, on his Apple AR glasses...: I'm SO MAD! LEAKERS MUST DIE!

The rest of us, poor and surfing the internet on ancient Apple hardware for lulz: This picture of Timothy is hilarious!
Don't forget the PowerBook G5 he is using on the floor as a space heater..

That's not what I meant, the environment/earth is not getting any better with those billions of Apple devices.

What would be equally awesome is if this email had hundreds of variations sent to different people to close in on the leaker. If a bunch of employees were like what memo? I didn’t get a memo. The leaker would be freaking out about now.
Yes, I was thinking that too. They could change a word, for example ‘with the different releases’ and ‘with all the releases’.

I wonder if Apple can ever fully eliminate leaks. I admit it would be nice to be surprised at what is announced at these Apple events (although I think we kind of know Apple’s playbook by now).

Leaks have been around for decades. Those old enough may remember grainy photos of boxes by the elevator at MacWorld. The difference today is that the information is so detailed right down to the CAD drawings.

These things are undeniably great - but its the messiah-complex that makes me need the sick bag. They are a tech company - not superheroes fighting for truth, justice and self cleaning underpants...
