I think Apple should solve this privately, spamming to whole company about this is just an invitation to keep leaking

They make great stuff that has changed all our lives. They donate a lot to charity and to crisis recovery. They are working hard on environmental initiatives, even though they aren’t perfect. They provide jobs for hundreds of thousands of people, and created an economy that provides jobs for many many more developers. Seems to me they are making the world a better place.
I don't judge a company by the penny of every 100 dollars they give to charity for a tax write off

I'm really surprised by the tone here. Most Apple Fans that I know like being surprised and those same people don't really like how much drama has emanated from Apple's rank & file over the last 12 months. I like Macintosh Rumors but I also prefer to be surprised and would like that to continue so I applaud Tim for making it clear that leakers IP or Internal memos have no place at the company.
It has nothing to do with keeping Apple fanatics from experiencing spoiled surprises, and everything to do with the board & shareholders being pissed that quarter profitability might suffer or not be maximized because of a leak.

For example: they didn’t put TouchID back in the flagship iPhone. Irritating. I don’t want FaceID. Since TouchID is rumored to return integrated under the screen, I’ll probably struggle with my 6s for another year, hoping to get TouchID back.

I want a roadmap, not surprises and uncertainty. I’ve been struggling over whether to buy another interim used iMac, or keep saving my EXTREMELY LIMITED spare cash for something more appropriate to my needs (and more expensive) a year from now.

That’s been going on for about ten years now! I could now technically just about afford a base Mac Pro (which is extremely anti-cost-effective), but have no money left for a proper display (& other things I’ll have to replace, like audio interface) because Apple only sell an insanely expensive display aimed at studios and third-party displays are known to be fussy with Macs.

I still think the whole "Watch will have flat sides" fiasco was a ploy by Apple to catch leakers...it's really the only theory that makes sense.
I thought this at first, but there's now ample evidence to show that the new device suffered a catastrophic failure in manufacturing at scale, so Apple ditched it really late and reverted to the old design, ditching the two-sided S7 chip as well. This is why careful review of the presentation shows that the clip had been spliced in late. Also, there's still no firm date for the Series 7 beyond Fall 2021, which could be any day between now and mid-December, given that there's no sign they've even begun mass production.

1. Ugly Notch is still here in 2021.
2. Battery size so low it still requires charging twice a day.
3. Charging still very slow 20W vs 65W. Wireless charging is even slower.
4. Data transfer through lightning is still at USB 2.0 speeds.
5. Camera's still can't zoom well.
6. No underdisplay fingerprint sensor, as you said.
7. No touch ID on phones with face ID. This is just bizarre because not everyone wants to use their face for identification.
8. No folding phones, even as concepts.
9. And there's a bigger list if we start talking about iOS as well.

Don't get me wrong, iPhones are still pretty good devices, but as overall packages and not for anything in particular. They are not the best phones in anything other than their SoCs, which the devices are sadly not at all in position to fully utilise because of how locked down or restrictive they are.

iPhones don’t require charging twice a day, unless you got one of those dumb ”mini’s”

Or not. There is more than one type of human behavior.

Some will assume, "They've said nothing about the leaks, then they don't really care that the leaks occurred."

Others, who have taken the company's policies on secrecy at face value, will wonder why the company hasn't said something about the violations.

Some will want to see the equivalent of a public hanging - details on who was caught leaking and photos of them being escorted out the door on a walk of shame.

Often a company does not want to publicize its disciplinary actions, but still has the need to send the message to staff that leaks do matter.

From my perspective, anyone who is inspired to leak by memos like Tim's was likely to leak without receiving the memo.

It’s going to take a pretty heavy hand to stop the leeks from the hardwire side when you make millions of units from multiple factories around the world. SW should be much easier to control and compartmentalize.

Plus your have a lot of hungry UTers now that make a living mostly just reporting rumors and leaks as their major content.

Says who? Manufacturing at Apple’s scale means that if any issues arise, they would be detected months in advance. Apple works on devices two to three years ahead of the current release. The design and testing for Series 7 was locked in probably during the filming of the presentation for Series 6.

Now that Series 7 is out, Apple might be working on S9 and it’s testing, while coming up with ideas for S10.
Lol, so you’re just gonna ignore all the evidence - the fact that production was halted a month ago due to “issues with the new design” and then resumed just a week before the keynote. The fact that NONE of the presenters were wearing Series 7 and that it was fkn DELAYED without any estimation as to when it’ll be out. That the ONLY new feature is the screen and cover glass - not even a new processor!?! And last but not least EVERY major leaker AGREED the new design was coming with the 7. You seriously think that was planned? All of it. Cuz no, it most definitely was not if you follow FACTS instead of the speculation you’re going off of out of thin air.

Seriously? You don’t think it’s great that now you have a full-blown computer in your pocket that let’s you summon a car, video call a loved one, provide navigation directions, read all the latest news, watch almost any movie or tv show, etc., all from anywhere you happen to be?
Apple did change a lot. But they’ve returned to the typical computer industry complacency-for-maximized-shareholder-value behavior that they disrupted with iPhone’s original release. They’ve also gone completely away from expertly-designed UIs, and away from simplicity, ease of discovery, and reliability.

Plus, their environmentalism claims are such that they should be doing WAY more and better than they do. They’re doing *more* good things than *a lot of other industry giants*, but their greenwashing for marketing sake is visible, and that calls question to their sincerity. They should either do better or cut back on the greenwashing marketing.

It may be time to rewatch the Apple 1984 Super Bowl Commercial, and realize that Apple was foreshadowing what they would become.
It’s probably all the same causes and reasons, too:

1. Letting Wall Street rule their development schedules and culture

2. Arrogance from big success

3. Complacency from the above

I still go with Apple, but that’s not because they’re superior. They’re just less awful than the competition.

I want back the Apple that was actually superior, and actively pushing the industry to do better, but they’re gone.

None of which is at all relevant to “Apple makes the world a better place.”

That's not what I meant, the environment/earth is not getting any better with those billions of Apple devices.
Yup. And pushing people to buy the same damn thing every year, and then proffering up claims of environmentalism that, while some are legit, also ignore egregious facts about their business model...

It’s hypocrisy. Apple aren’t nearly the worst at what this awful industry is doing, but they’re the loudest at the greenwashing PR.

Half of your points are great. Half are... uh... NOT. Like folding phones. WTF cares, and why??

Are you a new Apple Customer? "Surprise & Delight" is baked into Apple's entire customer experience and has been a staple since I was an employee 18 years ago and long before that as well. One of Steve's first public speeches upon returning to the company was about leaky ships and getting rumors under control. Macrumors, founded in 2001 has made a business on Apple's secretive model. Apple has sued journalists for leaking things. This is ingrained into the way they do business and a big staple to Apple University which all new hires go through.

Leaks are an internal job. In fact they are part of the marketing strategy at this point.

Apple is only refining technologies that are at least 4-5 years old for Android OEMs.

So there's no reason to believe that anyone stands to gain from these leaks other than Apple themselves.
Aren't the "official" undisclosed leakers when it is in the Journal or Bloomberg?

Of course people benefit. Some leakers are paid by publications that publish the leaks. And the publications are paid by advertisers who pay based on the number of people who read the leaks.

The leakers are very toxic to have in the workplace.. they are probably incapable of wiping themselves and keeping clean down below. Why don't you just change my diaper!?

Leakers.... what's there to do?! They attempt to destroy the compay from within and I think some are on the payroll at Verge or anywhere - perhaps even from MacRumors.. now wouldn't that be a bithc

Does nobody here remember the days before the Internet and poor Apple employees? There was a thing called a physical magazine you could buy or borrow from the library and read all about what might come from companies - reviews of hardware and software.. this rapid fire rumor mill is devastating to our community and I loathe it with all my heart.

I don't know what they could do to individuals posting leaked information, that are not employed by Apple or employed by their supply chain.

Apple may think so, but their products do not deserve the national security level designation.

Fine, fire and sue the leakers who are sneaking the info out. They can't control the information after its been passed on.

Doesn’t matter whether you work for them or their supply chain. If you knowingly receive stolen trade secrets you are breaking the law.

And lately they changed the english word ”privacy” to mean surveillance.
They couldn't have. They could lobby for the word to change its meaning, but to say Apple changed the meaning of the english word privacy to now mean surveillance is untrue.

oh,, you meant it sarcastically.... haha.
