Basically all the people who really didn't like the size of their iphones will buy the new one, and that is quite everyone basically...

Oh wait, but "4'' is the best, don't you see how many of them they sell?" :D

Sweet apple will 500 million phones this qtr!

No they won't but this will outsell by far all of them. You know what I'm talking about.

I have to say that the 5s looks prettier to me but 4,6-4,7-4,8'' is what I've always thought, since I tried, it's the perfect size (IMO of course). That being said the 5,5'' looks like a clown's phone, literally (IMO, again)

What are you doing that requires more than 1920x1080 resolution on a 5.5" screen?

It's far beyond the resolution that the human eye can detect... do you use a loupe on your phone screens?

Yeah, I love responses like that...lol. Can't possibly realize how ridiculous they sound.

I'm sure they will sell quite a few. Although I really do wish they'd invest the extra few bucks to make some of the specs on par with competitors. It would cost like $10 to make the default iPhone have 2Gb of RAM and 32 Gb of storage. I wonder if they're just supply constrained? Just doesn't make a lot of sense considering the profit margins on these devices. The 5.5" is going to be noticeably RAM-limited with that large screen, similar to the iPad.

Other than that though, I have to say that I'm happy with the new iPhone. I think knowing about most of the specs so far in advance really took the luster off, but this phone has just about everything that we say we've been wanting over the years. It's larger, beautiful, has 1080p (5.5"), has NFC, has a huge battery (5.5"), etc.

On another note, I think the Apple Watch is pretty lackluster. Definitely not buying the first edition.

We haven't seen it in action so not fair to comment on it. RAM isn't everything as you know. I won't disagree that the ipad needs something to make it stop reloading tabs. I don't know if RAM is what it needs but yeah it's pretty annoying.

I like Cook's confidence, and I don't doubt he's correct, but this is the first time since iPhone 3G, and as a longtime Apple fan, that I'm considering an upgrade that is not an iPhone.

For me, it's too little, too late.

I'll come out and say it straight up, I think the design of the 6 is ugly - the plastic lines totally ruin it. I think their design started going downhill with the 5 and this cements their descent into Ugly Phone territory.

iOS is looking tired and outdated, despite the recent revamp. Pay piques my interest (coupled with Touch ID, which I haven't had the pleasure of using as an iPhone 5 user), but here in the UK, where we have contactless payment cards, I'm not sure it's such a big deal.

Everything else about the 6 seems to just be about playing catch up (and failing, in some respects). But due to Apple's incredible brand cachet, everybody's going wild and will treat it as the second coming.... (or 12th or whatever release it actually is).

I'm looking at the Xperia Z3. I know it's not out so I can't say with certainty, but all signs point to a better camera, better battery, better screen - the things I actually care about - and in my opinion at least, it looks miles better than the iPhone 6.

Ok I've just ruled out the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, tried it out in Tesco's and while it looks nice and is a good size it lags slightly and takes a little time to open things. I'm not sure if this is normal for Android but my 2 year old iPhone 5 feels far quicker to react, it's all in fractions of seconds of course but subjectively enough to bug me.

As an Nexus 5 user looking to switch back to the iPhone, I wouldn't say the iPhone 6/6 Plus is 'better in every appreciable way.' There are definitely still downfalls to iOS over Android (customization, file system, etc). However, most things in my house are Apple products so it will be nice going back into the one cohesive ecosystem. Honestly, the main reason I am switching back is due to the larger screen finally.

It won't be a popular sentiment here due to all the Apple nuthuggers, but the Nexus 6 will be the far superior phone when it is released.

Never, NEVER, base your final opinion of Android due to a ****** Samsung product. I understand they are the most popular Android phone maker (why?!) but they screw things up. The ONLY way to properly use Android and get a feel for the OS is by using a Nexus device.

Translation: " I hereby swear to apologise for any feature / aspect of the new iPhone by mocking others as not being financial worthy of the new iPhone .

Tsk tsk.... A little bit elitist there mate.

Another good translation would be: "I'm so insecure that I feel that if I mock others who can't afford the new iPhone it'll make me feel better, except it'll actually make me look bad at the end of the day!"

Those exposed 'curved-glass' edges will shatter this thing in seconds when dropped. This design will probably even cause it to break when inside a case.

:(

This x1000. Samsung should not be your baseline for android. Horrible phones filled with silly gimmicks. But to add your post, it doesn't have to be only nexus. Htc and lg make some amazing android phones. The m7 I had was awesome, and the g3 even better.

If the Apple Watch 2 doesn't come out with a 4K ultra-HD screen next year then it's proof that Apple has lost its way!

Similar to all the people ten years ago saying, "How could you EVER fill up a 1 TB hard drive?!" lol

No, this is different, because human eyes are not getting better at resolving smaller pixels. There is such a thing as diminishing returns when it comes to increasing DPI on a small device.

Not necessarily. Now if they're dumb enough to not include an octa core processor, then they don't know how to innovate any more

It's a phone, not a painting. A phone is a tool. Lines don't mean crap. I don't determine the value of my DSLR (or a wrench for that matter) by how pretty it is.

Would you buy a ugly ass phone that does the same job as the iphone? I don't think you will especially if you pay a hefty price tag. You guys don't get the drive that made apple a technological phenomenon. You didn't see it happening, you just knew it happened and that apple is a big deal. But what made it so? ever thought of that? If you wanted a tool, then any tool would do, why pay a premium price for apple that all other companies have already surpassed technologically? Design is embedded deep in your psyche whether you acknowledge it or not. So that being said, buying an apple phone is not just about a "tool".

Ok.... I bet your car is a mid 2000's beige Camry (never washed). Perfectly practical, but some people do actually care about aesthetics and user experience.

I wonder if the bigger phone will fit, without looking bizarre, in a standard size men's pair of pants?

That's how I've always carried my phone; I suspect I'll need to go with the smaller phone for this important usability reason.

One of the rare insightful posts here. You are indeed correct. Buying Android is actually only a conscious decision using real brain cells less than 10% of the time. The rest its either someone who couldn't care less taking whatever the guy at the kiosk gives them for free, or some poor person from a country where a decent phone isn't on the table. However, there are 3 kinds of thoughtful Android buyers-

1) Size- these ones will now switch
2) Cost- will stick to Android but the race to the bottom will mean they will soon be buying Android phones sold at cost, so not an important market for someone who wants to run a good business
3) People living in Google's garden of pure ideology- "Google is teh open" and all that. Of course evidence is piling up that Google is among the most wicked companies you can buy from (they hate privacy, net neutrality, and they've slapped Android OEMs with all sorts of restrictions on what they can do with Google's 'open' platform), so this group should dwindle with time.

You're talking bullcrap, IMHO!

As someone who owns both Apple devices AND Android devices, I'm on the fence about switching to the iPhone 6 Plus as they only have 1 USP and that's the 128gb of storage for the top of the range version, and whether it's worth the obscenely expensive premium is another matter.

You can keep on being a Apple fanboy if you want, but it doesn't give you the right to act like a immature brat towards those who own Android devices because of what they have to offer!

It sure will. I'll be upgrading for the larger display. I'm thinking 5.5" for myself.

I was too, but the extra cost of iPhone plus and IMO needed memory boost to 64g adds an extra $200.

That might make that too steep for people.

You're right in that competition is a good thing in that it forces Apple to innovate instead of bringing out the same generic iPhone with minimal changes.

As for the iPhone 6, I think that the only major advantage that it has right now over Android is the 128gb storage that the top of the range version has as well as Apple Pay for shopping purposes, and that's about it.

Whether it's truly enough to make the majority of Android users switch to the iPhone, nobody knows right now, to be honest.

Two other advantages - iOS 8 allows even more communication between the iPhone and iPad (plenty of Android phone users have iPads).

Secondly for people that don't want the plus - there aren't many Android flagships with a sub 5" screen - even Motorola went with a 5.2" screen with their new Moto X and we know the HTC One, Sony Xperia Z2/Z3, Galaxy S 4/5, Galaxy Note Series, LG G2/3, Oppo/One Plus One, etc all have 5" or larger screens.

Yes, but that happens somewhere between 500 and 1000 ppi. But I'm quite happy with the 6+ display specs, and I'm sure that it will be a nice step up from the iPhone 5.
