We haven't seen it in action so not fair to comment on it. RAM isn't everything as you know. I won't disagree that the ipad needs something to make it stop reloading tabs. I don't know if RAM is what it needs but yeah it's pretty annoying.

I have that problem a lot with Chrome reloading tabs on my 128gb iPad when switching between it and another app.

Especially the iPhone 6+ is way too expensive and I am not fond of the big bezels. I was thinking of moving back to iOS but my LG G2 is not a bad phone and has a decent camera. And despite its 5.2 screen it is a relatively compact device and connects to my icloud contacts, calender and email, too. Syncing to iTunes works great, too.

I had my mind almost made up when I saw the leaks of the iPhone, which's design I didn't like. The price settled it. Won't be side grading.

Yes chrome too...It's something with the ipad and tab reloading. Honestly it's the only annoyance I have. I've not noticed any other limitation as far as performance on the ipad

Too late...

iOS 8 actually has several ways of improving upon the 2 biggest culprits of iOS storage:

1. Photos/Videos
-with iCloud photo library, you can now optimize iPhone storage space and also maintain access to your high res content. Takes 8 GB of photo/video down to about 650 MB. Pure freaking genius the way it works.

2. Messages
-few people realize how quickly this builds up, especially being able to message photo and video. Auto delete takes care of this.

So...arguably....with iOS 8 there is even LESS reason than ever before to get more than 16 GB. Your move.

----------

If you think iPhone is anywhere near above market value, it is you that needs a lesson in economics.

And I have some land on Mars that I want to sell you...

As someone else in this thread said, uploading and downloading stuff to/from iCloud may be ok if you have unlimited broadband, but if you live in a area with crappy broadband, then you're screwed!

Have you also had problems with Chrome crashing every so often?

I like my 128gb iPad, but I didn't think it could fill up so much thanks to a lot of educational videos from uDemy and on other educational apps being so damn huge along with installs of certain game apps; Simpsons: Tapped Out being one of the most guilty ones!

It's a problem with Apple

No it isn't.

they don't offer an easy way to sync over Wi Fi.

Yes they do.

iTunes is a mess
No, it isn't.

- Finder access to the iOS file system would be easier than using iTunes.

Just stop. The arrogance and ignorance is showing.

An SD card slot would also be a nice workaround.

 No. It would not. It would be a clunky, non-solution. You want clunky non-solutions? There are WiFI SD readers that you can carry around and expand your collection indefinitely. How convenient!

I do place the blame on the telecoms. But Apple knows of the telecoms, so they should offer solutions to work around them.

No of course not, what they should do is continue to innovate and force the hand of telecoms to UP THEIR GAME. Not race to bottom.

Yes, true, I've had it crash on me every once in a while.

I for one, am happy. Happy to see Apple plugging along and inovating. Will I buy the iPhone 6? Y...No. I am however glad to see some of the other things. The Watch is great. Great because it will force other manufacturers to push the envelope further. I use both Apple and Android devices. I like them both. I have ipads, Samsung tabs, Samsung phones and even a Oneplus One. Which one is the best? Who cares. Not you all. The only one who care which one is the best is me. It is my personal device. PERSONAL. There ya have it. Buy whatever will meet your needs, and let the competition continue between the manufacturers to keep making better products that do more stuff for the consumer.

You know very well what their cut will be. Stop trying to play dumb. It doesn't make you look smart.

There seems to be some problem in this thread with stating what amount Apple gets from this.

Why is that something people are running from? Is this some elephant in the room no one wants to acknowledge? Is this some embarrassing information? Are people scared for some reason?

Is it hard to just answer the question? If there is a problem with the amount, then let the debate begin.

Strangest bunch of comments I've ever read regarding what seems to be a pretty straight forward questions from the OP (of that question) who asked about the cut Apple gets.

If it is 5% then say "5%" what is everyone so worried about?

My upgrade to a 6 from my 4s was a sure thing right up until the 6 was released.
Larger screens again? Seriously? Can't I just have a really nice phone that fits easily in my hand and pocket?
I didn't care so much for the 5s size increase and I really don't care for the 6 and the 6+ just seems comically large.

My god the fanboys are out in force today.

Back in the real world... The reaction from everyone I know to this launch is "meh".

It's really weird, as a long time Apple defender I'm now seriously considering the switch to Android but even my Android loving friends seem disappointed with this launch rather than doing the usual mocking - I think they wanted more as well because at heart we're all tech geeks and like to see progress for the sake of advancement. This isn't progress.

The phones are ok, but that's it. Ok. Not great, not special, no advancement for the most mainstream model (4.7"), it'll perform similar to the 5S, similar battery life (which is the one area people really wanted an upgrade), it's got a bigger screen and is thinner at the cost of a protruding camera (also no physical upgrade from the 5S) and has that ugly, amateurish design to the antenna breaks.

The watch, well, we were expecting better, it's pretty "meh" too and convinced no-one I know that they'd be wearing watches - functionality aside it's also a fashion item but it's just not very slick in that regard.

I can see why Jony Ive brought in Marc Newson though, seems he probably designed the thing -

So fanboys, stop getting all evangelical please. This launch is ok, nothing more and in-fact a disappointment to many, even non-fans of Apple.

There's literally nothing revolutionary about anything we saw, nothing really exciting. The sales numbers will be huge but that's not because these are the best Apple products ever, it's because Apple is still cool for many people and they want the latest Apple products, many are tied to the eco system so will probably just get the standard like-for-like upgrade from their iPhone 5's etc etc. You won't be proving anyone wrong when Apple sets sales records, it's expected, but that doesn't mean these are the most amazing products the world has ever seen.

Apple are making small steps backward in innovation and design rather than being well ahead of the pack - the current Android phone/phablet offerings are not a million miles from these brand new Apple ones where in the past they'd have been watching the keynote with fear and nervousness, struggling to keep up for a year or so - all this launch has done is likely spark complacency for the entire industry.

You know what? I'll probably get the iPhone 6 anyway because I'm due my upgrade from my 5 and I'm in the eco system, it's not quite bad enough to make me switch. Sad really isn't it.

I agree with you about the fanboys being out in force today!

TBH, I've never understood why fanboys in general are obsessed with proving that their devices/consoles/computer is better than everyone else's.

I like to think of myself as being one of those people who doesn't give a crap about what's the best just as long as it does what it does at the end of the day!

To the haters, I know the antenna lines on the back are different, but How many of you spend so much time looking a the back of your phone? The screen is what counts and apple got that part right. And if you care so much what other people think of you when your holding the phone to your ear, you have way more problems than the lines on the phone.

I would have preferred the glass panels at the top and bottom myself but I am OK with the back panel, I slap a case on my phone anyway.

Apple made 2 mistakes in my opinion, they should have ditched the 16gb in favor of keeping 32gb as the $199 option and the 4.7 should have the same optical stabilization.

I'm gonna have a hard time deciding between the 4.7 and the 5.5 due to the better camera...

I completely agree with everything you said, but I will complain that the lines on the back is horrible design. It would in no way have the slightest bit to do with my decision to purchase, but it's just shockingly awful.

Like you though, my only two real objections are the 16gb entry point. Just seems really cheap to force people to get the 64gb when 32 would be perfect for so many (though I would still be getting the 64). Even worse is the OIS only on the plus. To force people into the 5.5" phone to get the better camera is idiotic. If you are going to do it at least have the plus start at 32gb. How useless is 16gb with the new camera

Millions will be sold in the first few hours. The only decision that I have to make, in the next couple of days, is which size is better for me. The 5.5" seems too heavy at 6 oz (50% heavier than iPhone 5s). But I do like bigger phones...decision, decision...

There is direct link between old iphones sales ahead of a launch and the actual sales.

According to the numbers, if Apple has the inventory, they will sell 50% to 100% more iphones than last year.

im probably going to upgrade from my 5 even though i hate the bands and the camera somewhat.

I WOULD be so pissed if they find a way to get rid of the bands and the protruding camera come 6s!!!

Fairly satisfied with all these refinements. Nothing truly innovative IMO, will have to see on the Apple Watch

Dropping the 32GB for 64GB is awesome! Finally it's not $100 for additional 16GB but $100 for an additional 48GB. Brilliant move from a business owner keeping the 16GB, you want to move people to the higher SKU, entry model is for entry.

Finally 128GB! Just what I wanted. iPhone 6 Plus 128GB for me.

Screen sizes are good, I rather have slightly lower resolution, and have better color accuracy, viewing angles. Then just resolution! It's about achieving a good balance.

1080p on the 5.5 is fine.

QHD right now is more a checkmark feature then anything else, it requires alot of power and sacrifices screen quality in other areas to get there. QHD on Samsung is a Pentile Matrix.

RAM I feel could have been bumped up at least on the Plus, min 2GB would be nice.

A8 is very awesome, they used the node shrink for an increase in transistors and not so heavily on performance. The norm is for a more marginal increase in performance from the S to no S gen, this generation introduces more features then anything else. iPhone 6S will be the performance increasing generation.

4S to 5 was the only generation really outside the norm where they increased performance substantially as well. We're getting to a point on phones where we're getting to on computers is the performance on all high end phones is sufficient. I really rather them aim for increases in battery life now.

Hmm, not sure about that. The reaction seems to be tepid amongst the Apple fans I know. It's not enough to get me to upgrade my 4S either and even the regular "6" is just too big for me. Androids have been tempting but I feel stuck to iOS now.

The smartphone market is maturing. And like any maturing product, smartphone's feature sets are starting to taper off and now it's more about refinement of fit, finish and existing features. I'm not sure what whiz-bang features you expect from the new crop of phones be in Apple or Android to get you to upgrade but I doubt we'll get another eureka moment like the introduction of the first iPhone any time soon. So you might be waiting a while for the next BIG thing. Trust me, you will notice a big different jumping from the 4S to any of the new smartphones, be it Apple or Android.

Posts like these are funny because the posters never get the irony and then get upset when its pointed out. You're telling these fanboys that they're wrong and you're right.

Pray tell what's the difference between you and them?

Other than the watch to me the two new iPhones absolutely have a must-have-can’t-wait appeal. 128 Gigs is what I’ve been waiting for since the 4s. Nothing beats local (storage). If they live up to the expectations regarding screen and camera quality and battery life it’s a done deal. I even prefer the new design over the 5/5s. (Which doesn't really matter because it will go into a case on day one. Starting with the 5 Ive’s obsession made iPhones too thin/light/slippery for me to comfortably handle them without a case. Still miss the "heft" of the most beautiful iPhone to date, the 4/4s).

The only thing I haven’t decided yet: 6 or 6plus? A few years back I couldn’t have imagined myself with one of these phablet monsters. But my usage of the phone has changed considerably over time. I find myself using the phone even at home many times with my Mini/retina within reach. Better handling, more comfortable reading on the phone – except for the meanwhile too small screen.

I’ll order both the 6 and 6plus the second preorder starts. Germany’s consumer protection laws make it easy for me: You can return any online order within two weeks, no questions asked. I’ll test them both and see if I can (and want to) handle the giant on a daily basis or if the smaller one suits me better. Never did that before but will do this time without any bad conscience. Over the last 25 years I carried some serious money to Apple. So I think they can live with me this time placing a "not so final" order.

BTW: I think I won’t be the only one in Germany placing a double order to return one later. Might even help Apple to further boost their stats for the famous first weekend.

I imagine that would happen. But not for the price of these handsets.

As for desired features? What I'd consider "the next big leap";

-Wireless charging when placed on a mat or within a (lets be realistic) very close range. (along with wireless syncing speeding up you could have a port-less device)
-2 day long battery life. Or, a phone where I don't have to disable features to make it last through a day.
-Water resistance would be nice now.
-Haptic feedback.
-Universal network connectivity gunk. Say I have some photos on my iPhone but want to view them on my iPad, why can't I do that? Or if I have some videos on my a computer on my home network why can't I view them within the Videos app? I think that will happen eventually because it's a nice easy connectivity/software feature.

It's hilarious to come in here and read whiny posts from uptight geeks that want to argue and call each other names in regards to their personal preference on what brand of phone to use.

Relax you dorks and just go enjoy whatever brand and size of phone suits you best.

Isn't that the truth. The new phones look great and can't wait to get my hands on the the 6. Been wanting them to go back to rounded edges since the 3G's. It's all about personal preferences and the array of devices out there is awesome!!

I just don't understand the fanboy concept. Why settle for mediocrity just because you like a particular brand. These companies don't give a rat's ass about you, so why in turn should you evangelize their products?

I've had an iPhone since the 3g. I was thinking about going to another platform 2 years ago but instead went with the 5. It was too much of a hassle to get out of the ecosystem. Now I'm faced with the same dilemma. This phone is not innovative. It is catching up with the rest of the competition. And they couldn't even do that in the RAM department. If it is really 1GB, that is a total disappointment. I have the iPad air, and I'm sick and tired of Safari tabs and programs reloading because of lack of memory. I wish I had returned it and waited for version 2. I'll get the 6+ only because of the hassles in switching, but if the RAM is not enough like my air it is going back. I'll have to make the switch to Android then.

We should expect more from Apple. I'd be especially pissed if I was considering the 4.7" model. No 1080p screen or image stabilization, are you kidding me? People have beat the incremental upgrades to death, so I won't. Apple will sell a lot of them, and they will make money no doubt. For the first time, it seems like I'm seeing more long time iPhone owners who are seriously considering a move to something else.

Uhhh, this is possible right now....PhotoStreams and iCloud....

I suppose on the video side, it all depends where you put the video....there also isn't an iTunes Match for movies/TV Shows at this point, but that's on TV negotiations rather than technology.
