I don't see Tim Cook backing up his rhetoric with a visit to China.
Of course he'd say that when China supplies all of Apple's parts. Apple's investors are more important to him than the reality of the virus. He's an idiot.
Or lying through their teeth about the situation. Use your gut as to which one it is...
China does not report deaths the way the US does. ... They report the secondary causation, like say a fever, or heart failure due to the flu or virus, instead of the flu or virus itself... And besides that, there are many unreported deaths by the new Coronavirus. People who are found dead in the street and sent to the crematorium immediately. In the meantime, in the real world
The press sells ads by causing fear about Coronavirus.
- The flu remains a higher threat to U.S. public health than the new coronavirus.
- This flu season alone has sickened at least 19 million across the U.S. and led to 10,000 deaths and 180,000 hospitalizations.

No, he’s a business man. What’s he going to say, China is screwed, devices won’t be assembled on time and earnings are going to tank?
Hyperbole at it's finest.
you do realize that with the numbers we have so far, Covid-19 has ~100x fatality rate than that of the flu.
You call that “rhetoric?”I don't see Tim Cook backing up his rhetoric with a visit to China.
No, you aren’t counting “non-severe” flus.Based on Wikipedia, "Influenza spreads around the world in yearly outbreaks, resulting in about three to five million cases of severe illness and about 290,000 to 650,000 deaths."
That comes out to be about 10% fatality rate among the severely ill. Let's just say that flu fatality rate is about 1%. Your number is still WAAAYYYYY off.
Yet it somehow managed to kill the otherwise healthy 33 year-old Dr. Li Wenliang, who would've had access to the highest quality of care available in China.
Incidentally, he was also the one who was outspoken in warning people and calling for a greater response initially because of the potential seriousness of the virus, and a greater openness from the central government. Funny that, eh?
Also, 95% happened in a single region, the one where it began.
Nonsense. At this point the US would not be able to mass produce phones as all the resources, manufacturing, engineering talent and workforce is in or around Shenzhen. Best he could do is to ship parts back and assemble them in the US which does not make much sense and the shareholders would crucify him for itSucking up to the pseudo commies, Timmy? Not a good look.
Bring manufacturing back to the country you live in and shut up
We shall see. I guess I'm just surrounded by people who don't panic that easily. I believe its hyped, you believe its apocalypse kinda thing. We will see how it goes but I'm telling you now, people are mental right now.
Anyway, let the show begin I guess :-D
I live in Shanghai and things are getting back to normal. Slowly, but surely. Every week the municipal government let various businesses open and then looks at the numbers to see the effect. First smaller restaurants and shop opened but only for takeaway, and now gyms and larger restaurants and preparing to open. Factories are risky but the highest risk is elementary schools so they will open among the last. Shanghai city ordered business not to fire anyone for 6 months and if your business is in a government owned building then you get two month rent free, etc.
China is a large country and rules vary by provinces. Wuhan might remain under lock down while Shenzhen factories continue to produce goods.
Surgical masks won't help much. You need N95 masks.Hey Tim, how about throwing in a pack of surgical masks with the next purchase of an iPhone?
This isn't Tim's first rodeo, he's very good at answering such questions "diplomatically".If I was the interviewer, I would ask more pertinent questions like, how is the iPhone 12 development coming a long, do you have prototype in your pocket, if so, can I see it please and borrow for the night and give it back to you tomorrow?
I would just respond, show what’s in your pocket then Mister. I would also say, what’s the big deal, you are releasing a new phone this year, we know you have it. Stop acting like you are gonna surprise us, we all read Macrumors. This isn't Tim's first rodeo, he's very good at answering such questions "diplomatically".
