I expect you'll only ever call the gas pedal the accelerator.
It's called the accelerator pedal or throttle in Australia and possibly most of the world. I've never heard of anyone refer to it as a gas pedal apart from Americans. ;)

I also think calling this Porsche a "turbo" is a bit silly since it doesn't use forced induction.

As an ex gearhead it kills me they called it "Turbo" when its the furtherest thing from a Turbocharger.... this is what marketing department winning over the engineers looks like. Total nonsense and a shame for a brand like Porsche!

Turbo, since it's introduction to 911 in 1974, defined and continues to define the high performance variant of every Porsche afterwards.

They can call it whatever they want.

Period.
Small point, but the first 911 was introduced in 1963 as the 901 concept, with the 911 released in 1964.

Clearly an Apple scripted commercial, so why a big deal?

I guess after you lose 10 BILLION dollars, then you can laugh about your Porsche exploits!
 
I'm sorry, but even if they somehow convince me to buy an EV, I'm not gonna buy one with the word "turbo" in its name. How about we come up with new naming conventions? Call it OC, for overclocked, or something. There is no turbocharging an electric motor.
Fun Fact: My very first PC had a “turbo” button on the front of the case that, when pressed, made the CPU run at a higher clock speed. That button was always engaged.

Maybe Porsche is trying to spice up their street cred by using Turbo as slang now. Further proof of this would be the cameo appearance of Gangsta Mr Rogers … Timmy C in this new promo spot. #fresh

It’s almost like these companies can’t come up with new branding anymore. Honestly though, it would be a shame for the “turbo” name to completely die out after electrification, not seeing that badge in that font ever again would make me really sad

Except its called a Turbo to distinct it from their non turbo versions like the 4S. Calling it a turbo without a turbo is stupid.
You're entitled to your own opinion of course. But it's not.

Turbo name was selected as the distinctive technical aspect of the 911 engine in 1974. Turbochargers were new at that time in automotive before widespread adoption started in 1980s. Calling 911 Turbo as the "Turbo" in that era allowed 911 Turbo to receive widespread acclaim and established a brand name to Porsche for high performance cars. Turbo name became 'etched' in the highest performance variants after this.

Noone cares (or even knows) what the hell Turbo means today.

And if you look at the sales figures of the Taycan, it was the right name to differentiate the turbo name and logo with it.

So, yes you're right 'technically' - and it doesn't matter.

It's the right name for the right marketing/market positioning.

Chinese EV makers has been using 0-100 time, and computing power in tflops to brand their cars

If you dont know what Turbo means... perhaps you drive your Porsche to the restaurant and back at 55 and feel great about pulling up in style in your "little sports car". Just like those guys that buy sports bikes and full leathers and ride it to the coffee shop and stand in front of it. I wont say I look down on you or that you are a poser.... but some people would. LOL. Style over substance as with many things in todays society.

The least they could have done is come up with some electo-boost system that boosted the voltage to the motors and called that ElectroTurbo or something like that. Maybe then I would give them a pass.

Adrian Clarke, a professional car designer was convinced that “Vehicles always have an amount of curves in them because they have to be able to hold the shape when the part comes out of the press. But if you have a dead flat panel, it doesn’t work. It’s going to vibrate and they’re going to have massive problems stamping those panels and having them keep their shape.”

I think it’s the other way around.Elon once said Apple is where failed Tesla engineers go. Tim said FSD is the mother of all AI. Tesla’s latest FSD is dare I say it; magical. Apple gave up and has been reduced to creating a me too Meta Quest product and taking about AI laptops in their marketing materials.

Porsche SE owns VAG which owns Porsche AG, if they partnered with them they could have a range of products from mass market to uber luxury. But yeah I’m just daydreaming here, I know it would never happen

Tesla seems more like a “move fast and break things” type of company though, whereas Apple is careful and methodical, and cares deeply about quality. They don’t rush things to market, they bring their own version of it a few years later once they’ve tested and perfected it, like Porsche did with the Taycan
Taycan is far from perfect. VW is imploding because they rushed their buggy EVs to market.

I wouldn’t call VP exactly polished nor was the first iPhone nor the touchbar MBP’s nor the G4 cube nor the trash can Mac Pro nor Siri v1.0 - v10.0 nor iPhone 4’s antenna nor Apple Music 1.0… you get my point. Your selective memory is filtering out many of Apple’s failures or quirks/defects in their products.

The new Taycan does use a attack mode to access the full 1098 HP. Otherwise it outputs 777 HP.
