Oh geez, these threads are always filled with misinformed people talking about free speech and censorship.

Apple isn’t the government, they can “censor” (quotes because it isn’t real censorship) anyone they please.

The first amendment doesn’t apply here.
OK. What about the cake guy?

You’ve said about five times already macrumors should ban anyone not leftist.

Stop. Your bigotry is out in the open. Macrumors will not be banning any single person on grounds of conservatism. This isn’t twitter. Reeeeeeeeeee along.

People You don’t agree with are perfectly allowed to civilly have debate and discussion on a forum.
Don’t forget that new “ignore” function ;)

Tim Cook's Democrats are the hate speech. Apple is a products company. Not a platform like FB, YouTube, Etc... People buy the products and do whatever it is they want with them. Including ISIS filming executions with an iPhone using Slow motion.

Holy Christ. This is the dumbest thing I have read in... a long time. You are seriously comparing MS-13’s position to the Jews? Are you saying the Jews were a bunch of drug smuggling rapists and murderers? Because, news flash, MS-13 is. No boogeyman.

Also, the only immigrants being demonized are ILLEGAL immigrants. ILLEGAL. Go look up the meaning of that word, because apparently nobody understands what it means. No policies have been enacted to burden legal immigrants. There is a process for a reason. If you want to support illegal immigration or open borders, then please move to France, Sweden, Germany, or the UK.

To touch again on your first point, the Jews have been kicked out of more countries over history than any other known race. Strange that nobody ever mentions this. Isn’t it weird that they would keep getting kicked out of every place they try to occupy?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsions_and_exoduses_of_Jews
Still want to compare MS-13 to them?
How the hell did you get MS-13 equals Jews from my post? Try reading it again. In my analogy, Latin American migrants = Jews. MS-13 = anti-Jewish propaganda. You failed to figure out the analogy because you don't understand that MS-13 are basically propaganda. They were created in America. They are a tiny, tiny group. They have little or nothing to do with Latin American migrants. They are the equivalent of the bogeymen Nazis used to vilify Jews. Do they exist? Sure. Did corrupt Jewish bankers exist? Sure. Did either of those propaganda bogeymen have anything to do with 99.99% of Jews and 99.9% of Latin American migrants? Nope.

No, many of us simply understand that we can't go around banning speech because we disagree with it. Now true hate speech, like I want to hurt so and so, that is a problem, but unfortunately many companies, including Apple don't know how to distinguish true hate speech from what isn't hate speech. Instead they simply call anything that disagrees with their viewpoint hate speech and that isn't necessarily true.

For example, saying "marriage should only be between a man and a woman"is not hate speech. Saying that "anyone who attempts to marry someone of the same gender should be killed" is hate speech and would be wrong, but Apple and other companies, as well as many individuals want to define both statements as hate speech.

Note: I am not saying I agree or disagree with the first statement, only using this as an example. I do and would be against the second statement, that would clearly be hat speech and is definitely wrong.

Do you know what ADL is?

There is no such thing as hate speech.
Over 80 people liked this post. That is scary.

It reminds me things we should do as a nation. We are far better off with no gun on the street, single payer healthcare, women made the decision for their body...Right wing never stops amaze me.

Women killing children in their wombs is not women making decisions about their bodies. It is women killing children in their wombs.

A decision about their bodies should be made BEFORE children develop inside their wombs.

Latino migrants do not equal Jewish refugees. Jews were not fleeing from other Jews. They were fleeing from being exterminated by non-Jews. Latino migrants are fleeing from other Latinos. They are not being exterminated for being Latino. They are fleeing their own dysfunctional societies and if allowed in, they will bring that dysfunction with them.

It is akin Israelis fleeing Israel for America not being the same as Jews fleeing Europe. Those Israelis who want to live in America are not refugees and are pure migrants or immigrants. They may not like living in Israel because of constant terror threat, lower wages, higher cost of living, etc., but they are not refugees.

That doesn't make any sense, nor do you have any sources to back up your claims. Congratulations.

Tim Cook made Dre into a billionaire, a misogynistic woman-beater. I had every intention of quoting some of his lyrics here to make my point, but wow, I'd have my account banned in a heartbeat. It is surreal that the liar Tim Cook has the balls to say he's against hate speech while giving a huge voice to this sub-human piece of trash. Tim Cook = Hate Speech. This is someone Tim Cook gave over $1 Billion to.

Tim Cook was even working on a documentary series glorifying Dre, but was forced to drop it because despite Tim's best efforts to clean it up and show Dre in a positive light it was just too full of violence, sexual abuse, and hatred to ever see the light of day. This evil, destructive monster is now a billionaire thanks to Tim Cook. Tim Cook loves his message of hate.

But Dre is just the most egregious example. The Apple Music store is filled hate speech. Calling out for violence and atrocities against every group you can imagine. All for the profit of Apple. I find it hard to believe that there is any place on the internet that spreads these hateful messages farther and wider than Apple.

And that's fine if Apple wants to make a profit off hate speech. But how dare Tim Cook then turn around and pretend he's against hate speech. How dare he claim hate speech has no place on his platform when his platform is likely the largest source of hate speech in the world. Hate Speech is his life.

99% of these tech people have zero background in the humanities, history, philosophy, and the arts.
They also know nothing about logic, reason, ethics,
They especially know less than nothing about the history of governance and political philosophy and
how they apply to America and its Constitution.
They might be bright people, but they are, outside of their field of expertise absolute know-nothings.
They are precisely the kind of people who fall for the politically correct worldview,
and they are the last buggers I want making any decisions for me, my country,
or about what news and opinions the people in this country gets to see.
If they all keeled over right now the country and the world would be much better off.
As far as the ADL, they became an outdated, irrelevant operation by keeping that tiresome
uninformed ancient relic, Abe Foxman, on for 15 years past when he ought to have retired.

Why is my computer or phone "a platform" and not a dumb device that does what I say?
Is my refrigerator also a platform? Should Whirlpool prevent me from putting certain foods in my fridge?
We need a new word for a new kind of bs...

I won’t comment on what’s hate speech and what isn’t. But Apple is a private company and can do what they want.
They are a public company, and in theory have to answer to the shareholders.

You know, that’s a good point. Refrigerators are getting more and more smart.

What if someone feels foie gras is wrong. They then petition the maker to shut off the refrigeration mechanic if the camera in the fridge identifies foie gras inside the fridge.

Ah yes, name calling. The tried and true method of a Trump supporter.

You realize that call him a Trump supporter and belittling him for being one is kinda name calling as well

Hate speech...

Conservatives will cautiously define it their way
Progressives will actively push it their way
Religious people will divine it their way
Postmodernists will narrate it their way
Communists will state it their their way
Fascists will dictate it their their way
Libertarians will say it does not exist

There is no such thing as hate speech. Don't be hypocritical TC. The left always has a platform to call everyone a nazi, fascist, racist, sexist or bigot when that is demonstrably not the case.

That I clicked on this article and found this to be the most liked comment is a very sad statement. Gotta love silly words like “always” and “everyone” and “demonstrably.” It’s cute. Divorced from reality, but cute.

This thread has restored my faith in humanity. I have thought that we irreversibly got lost into a horror of political correctness.

There is a good old quote which says: "I do not agree with the single word you said, but I will to the death defend your right to say it".
Great quote!!! Many would say it a bit different today though: “I do not agree with some of the things you said so you are obviously a hater and I must shut you down by any mean.” Sad world we’re living in!

This post is comedy gold. Let’s review. You...
— begin with a made up statistic
— then proceed to talk about “logic” and “reason” (oh the irony...)
— assume that they don’t use those things (factually wrong for many; in fact most top tier MBA programs incorporate classwork teaching formal logic)
— make tons of assumptions many of which don’t pass even cursory tests for truthfulness
— then accuse people of “falling for” something (that irony is getting thicker!)
— then wish death upon the people powering the global economy, which uhh, if you’d ever paid any attention in any economics class, you’d know that would be a very very bad thing.

You’re special.

Uh oh. The slippery slope. The answer to hate speech is more speech. Reasoned, conscientious speech. The problem with censoring hate speech is, who decides what is hate speech? Progressives have demonstrated time and time again that they consider hate speech to be any speech that does not conform to their world view. It’s mob rule, where only the most pure of virtue signallers are immune to a Twitter ban, a Facebook suspension, or a Google blacklisting. So schizophrenic and capricious are the rules that even the most ardent progressives are sometimes hoist with their own petard.

The value of truly free speech was once taught in schools, but has now been replaced with a new orthodoxy based upon every individual's right to never have their ideas challenged, to never feel the sting of any offense. Objective truth has fallen by the wayside; hyperbole is the new truth. Anyone who disagrees is a sexist, a racist, a bigot, a homophobe, and must be silenced, driven from the public forum, from their jobs, from their homes.

Apple once, under the leadership of Steve Jobs, avoided overtly political involvement. Everyone knew Jobs was a liberal, and that Apple was a liberal company, but as a corporate entity, Apple was happy to serve all ideologies without applying its own provincial leftist ideology. But Steve Jobs is gone now, and Tim Cook has demonstrated since day one that his intention was to take Apple down the same ideologically puritanical path as Google, Facebook, Twitter, and the rest. How very sad for free, independent thought.

That’s a lot of typing. Let me simplify it for you.

Don’t be a callous ass and you won’t run into problems. “The Golden Rule” works.

I agree with this sentiment, but I can’t take them seriously when there is plenty of black supremacy rap music on iTunes. They preach about what is right, but they seem to have quite a bit of bias when it comes to what they think is right and wrong.

You own your refrigerator. You don't own Apple's online services that they run with their own funds. The only bs I'm seeing is that the majority of pro-hate speech conservatives here apparently can't be bothered to open a book before commenting.

This is a strawman constantly pushed by regressives and the radical right. Hate speech is very plainly defined as "speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of attributes such as race, religion, ethnic origin, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity." and has nothing to do with politics.

The only reason conservatives squeel so loudly whenever Tim takes a moral stance against hate speech, is that conservatives and the kind of people who use hate speech tend to overlap quite closely more often than not.

I am lived in different countries around the world America is only country that calls hate speech free speech. In Canada a teacher went to jail for teaching to his high school students that the Holocaust was a hoax. In Germany WWII German symbols and even the 4 letter N**I word will get you in trouble. In Spain a Muslim cleric was tossedin jail for making a phone call on Sept 10, 2001 giving a phone message "The birds are in the air" to someone in the UK.
Apple always tries to keep in G Rated even Apple Maps sensors "certain" types of businesses
