The number of people supporting Trump's idiotic actions here utterly astounds me.

Those are likely the same people who voted for Trump and his platform that this issue was front and centre on.

Frankly, I'm astounded that you're astounded - guess you just weren't listening during the election, which speaks volumes about you, rather than the others you're pointing at.

Vet people who have already been vetted?
Notice the ban doesn't include Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. All of which are Muslim majority countries. Most of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. So why is that country excluded?

Could it be that Trump's family has business ties with these countries? Hmmmmmmm?

It's possible, but that isn't a likely reason. Saudi Arabia and Egypt are considered US allies. Turkey is also part of NATO. I don't believe either of these conditions applies to the countries on that list.

People like Wilders and Trump aren't just racists. They're worse, they hate the liberal society itself that they claim to protect. They wanna watch our world burn, and just wait a few years, they will get there. It has already started.

They want to destroy the EU so that everyone can go back to their pre 1933 nationalist countries and start being angry and suspicious at each other again. Great plan, I still remember where it got us the last time.

Don't you realize that all these people talk about is the exact same BS that has been said back in the day? All this talk about the corrupted elites, the lying press, giving the country back to "the people"....
Trump doesn't refer to the people meaning the working class, as all his friends are just super rich millionaires- no, it's about white supremacy, some weird terminology of "the people" based on blood, like DAS VOLK was back in the day. It's all happening again and yet smart people like you try to twist it in a sick way, talking about protecting the society against muslims and so on...
It's the same old story all over again, just replace muslims with jews.
Still, you cannot - and should never compare the populists of these days with Hitler. I don't take people who do so serious. It's sad, pathetic and shameful. You can't do that.

And by the way, Wilders wants to destroy the EU, because it has become a dictatorship itself. The EU President (Juncker) can basically let the countries do everything he wants. Kinda like the United States, but in the EU's case the 'states' are actually countries. They even want to make one 'super states' out of it, so the EU President would formally become president of all European countries. That does sound like a dictatorship to me! The sooner we break with the EU, the better, believe me. We have to do it, for the sake of our freedom. And don't come up with the Hitler BS, because it's got nothing to do with that. I find it shocking to have to tell you so, considering you're from Europe too. Germany in fact. You should know better.

I applaud President Trump's action. Not because I hate immigrants, but because I think it's important to find out who's actually coming into your country. If you let in every single person blindly, you're only putting your people at risk. And one of the primary jobs of the leader of a country, is to keep his people safe. And by signing this executive order, Trump (or at least those who are in charge of the nation's security) is given time to find out who they really are.
Do you really seriously think that up until this order was signed, there was no vetting process? - that we just left the door open and "every single person" could walk in? - and now Trump has improved things? They have had extensive vetting already in place. This is not a secret, it's well documented (though Fox News may not cover it). This executive order is just an opportunity for Trump to make low-information voters - who don't have any idea what vetting process is already in place, or that there even is vetting already - feel safe by telling them that he's going to put into place... something that was already there. While at the same time needlessly ripping some people's lives apart. But anything is justified to make idiots feel safe, right?

The number of people supporting Trump's idiotic actions here utterly astounds me. It speaks volumes about the level of information and education that so many people have (or rather—don't have).

This country is in real trouble.
The fact that Trump is now President should also be a sign to the liberals who never ever listen to the people. That's what's wrong with politics: they just do whatever they want, and never listen to what people really want. Trump would not have been president if Obama would've done a better job.

I find it disappointing how you people call Trump supporters dumb, stupid, idiotic etc. Says more about YOU than it does about the Trump supporters.

Wealth inequality doesn't require any special explanation. In a capitalist system, it takes money to make money, and the more money you have, the better poised you are to profit in good times *and* bad. During the crash in 2008, for example, many extremely rich people got richer, while many middle class investors were completely wiped out.

That's why we have ways of redistributing wealth, like progressive tax. What's changed in recent decades is that tax havens, tax avoidance (*cough* Trump) and globalization are making it easier than ever for the rich to move their money elsewhere or protect it in other ways. At the same time, middle and working class families are losing jobs, and aren't able to afford the higher education they need to get better jobs. Education isn't getting any cheaper, because there is constant pressure to keep taxes low, especially for the wealthy. The mechanisms of redistribution are failing at the same time the rich are getting better at moving their money away to safety.

So we are becoming less equal. And a less equal society is an uglier society. Just ask a historian.
It must be easy to have such a simplistic view of the world. Ironically for the past 8 years we had a president who touted quarter after quarter economic growth and unemployment decline, all the while lying about the fact that unemployment numbers were misleading since so many had stopped looking or had to have 2 jobs and work part time as well as the fact he bragged about economic growth so stagnant it was the the most abysmal up cycle we've ever had. In fact under his watch incomes dropped in spite of his economic growth and improved unemployment statistics as he stifled and over regulated business, choking the economy. Instead he chose to double the debt and spend like never before and poorly at that.

Yes it is true that money begets money. However, the progressive movement wasn't about giving people a hand up so that they could better stand on their own two feet. It was rather about creating a society dependent on entitlements and handouts. And people don't want to work if they don't have to once they find out the government will take care of them for free.

And that is the truly dangerous environment.

that's what he said. But what he meant, and more so what the ideologic people behind him like BANNON mean, is, that muslims are the new jews. Just wait until they have to start wearing yellow stars!

fortunately the USA isn't a dictatorship like Nazi Germany was. This shouldn't happen. Checks and balances won't allow it. You gotta have some faith in the system.

Man, you've just described Canada and Canadians to a tee ... how'd you know that.

Nice try, but not really. Ostensibly, a lot of people were voting for reasons other than the racist and protectionist platform. Examples would include core economic voters, as well as those people who believed that he was largely hot air.

What surprises me is the number of people willing to double down, today, on these absurd policies that the vast majority of intelligent and educated people universally agree make zero sense.

Go Trump, Go Trump, Go Trump

The world will be a better place without these dangerous Muslims

All we ever hear is 1 side of the story what about all the Apple employees who support Trump.

It's not about liberals. There are lots of intelligent and successful Republican citizens who vehemently oppose this guy. That ought to speak volumes.

More to the point, had Obama been able to run for a third term, your argument would fall apart. And quickly. Based on his approval ratings, he would have overwhelmingly won. People didn't like Clinton, or at least the image that had been painted of her. The public still digs Obama.

And as for your argument about liberals not listening, I'll remind you that in 2009, Obama tried to work with Republicans. They—the ones in Washington—built a platform on obstructionism. I didn't love the guy, but where we ended up isn't his fault.

Thank you, Macrumors, for staying neutral and simply presenting things that happened, without commentary.

I really appreciate that.

You're getting dangerously close. Checks and balances don't appear to be working. its beginning to look like rule by decree.

If we ban people based on characteristics like that we need to ban whites(South Carolina) and US military vets(Dallas) etc

Doesn't make much sense does it?
