Apple and these other tech companies abusing the H1-B Visa program to keep American wages down and devalue college education in this country might be wise to keep their mouths shut on immigration. Do they really want Trump to start scrutinizing their hiring practices with these sort of statements intended to hurt Trump politically? As a shareholder, I'd rather see Apple making statements in favor of Trump's proposals to lower corporate tax rates and bring more jobs into the country for American citizens. Maybe under Trump and a GOP Congress they'll be able to repatriate all that overseas cash and invest more in America. These silly fights over a national security issue that can't possibly effect Apple and is just plain common sense to do just make Apple and Tim Cook look idiotic and out of touch. Apple could be talking about building new factories and labs in the US. Instead, they talk about how they oppose basic border security while hiding behind their own fences and private security forces.

Great post

A Federal judge in NY just granted a stay temporarily blocking trump's executive order immigration ban. Tip-o-my-hat to the ACLU for filing the action.

Yea glad the ACLU is looking out for all Americans

Like every tech company (or, indeed, *any* large international company), Apple has employees who have green cards, work visas, dual citizenship, etc., and they are directly impacted by this ill-conceived order. So of course he has made a statement, as have leaders at several other companies.

"Apple has "reached out" to the White House to "explain the negative effect"" on the company.....There isn't any US citizens that can have those jobs instead or does Cook think Americans are just stupid?

If an American company relies so much on "illegal immigrants" that it has a negative effect when they get "temporarily banned", something is wrong with the system. Any legit US citizen should be concerned.

A certain percentage of all companies are immigrants because they cannot find qualified candidates. This is the truth and I know it. I am in the technology industry. Apple does not hire immigrants to save money. They hire talented people. Also, this ban applies to Greencard holders as well. green card holders are permanent residents with full ability to work and live in the US. All that is gone now because of Trump's order.

Good, I find it hard to believe that out of 300+ million US citizens they can't find the talent they need to succeed. And if so, why is that?

Why in the world would TC express outrage about that news?

Were some Apple employees affected in some manner, as with trump's recent immigration ban, requiring Cook's intervention and speaking to Apple's employees about the situation via private email, as he recently did with respect to the immigration ban with some employees potentially affected?

So, did he support the summary execution of foreign nationals via drone? How about US citizens?

Why does Cook have to say anything at all? Is he going to make a statement about every Executive Order now?
because he cares about the issue and his employees are effected.
did you even read the article?

What about all the millions of Apple dollars Cook is cashing in and earned by moving jobs to China. We are talking dangerous Muslims so Trump has to put a stop to all Muslims until we find the bad ones.

It affects apple employees overseas because they are from the affected areas? Really?

Are Apple employees such snowflakes that they need the CEO to address things for them because they don't know what to think?

At a point in time when I was despairing at the lack of people standing up to Trump, in steps Tim Cook, CEO of one of the world's largest companies. Well Done Tim. I hope many others follow.

To those who actually believe that Trump is going to be good for America, I plead with you - stop listening to the fear and hate, look at where he is trying to lead you, because it is not a good place. History shows us where Trump's vision ends. A history I never thought we were capable of repeating.

I agree wholeheartedly with Trump's decision. Tim cook would not change my mind about it but If Steve Jobs was still with us and said the same words, I might rethink it.
wasn't Steve Job's father a Syrian national? (and Syria is among those banned countries)..so if Trump was the president back then,Steve Jobs father couldn't come to the US and so there was no Steve Jobs and no Apple and no Macrumors..

And of course Apple does business in countries that kill gays as a matter of principle. And with those that would kill Jews, Christians, and women. Where does it stop, Tim?

As a shareholder I just want you guys to make better products that people buy.

yea cause we all know you cannot be successful unless you migrate to the US.

Snowflakes?

It affects Apple employees from the specified areas, legally working in the United States. Same with google employees.

And yes, a good CEO will look after his/her employees.

I understand you probably would not look after your employees, and because of that, should not be a CEO of a large and successful company.

Because it's hurting Apple's employees.
Apple is not the only tech company to be hurt by this.

So then we're supposed to assume that there have never been any Apple employees negatively impacted by ILLEGAL immigrants?

whats wrong with hiring US citizens? Don't blow the qualified bs up my ass.

with all due respect **** products, people's lives are being torn apart and you're over here being a selfish ass
Then he really should resign and run/lobby do whatever to be a source of change. Sitting as CEO and interjecting to a degree is like sitting here on a forum whining/debating like we all are. So instead why not actually do something to change what is going on... "Armchair CEO"/"armchair politician"
