whats wrong with hiring US citizens? Don't blow the qualified bs up my ass.

Nothing is wrong with hiring US citizens. The people in question happen not to be US citizens, as is very common in silicon valley in many tech companies like Apple, HP, Tesla, Google, IBM, Texas Instruments, etc.

So, if you were CEO, you would turn your back on them and kick them out, right?

how many of those countries on "trumps ban list" currently have a functioning central government?

if thats what the law said to do, I sure would. Why the **** would I care? You really think most CEO's do?

Well said Tim! I've criticized him plenty of times but now we need to stick together. This is bigger than some phone, tablet or laptop.

I agree and in the end it just makes Apple look hypocritical because they have no problem doing business in countries like Saudi Arabia where gays and women have few rights. He likes to talk the talk but not walk the walk if it affects Apple's bottom line.
Or china.

Yup. CEOs of successful tech companies do - they value their employees. Speaking as one who has worked in silicon valley as an engineer my whole life.

I understand your view is different. It's probably good you are not a CEO of a successful tech company.

Why is everyone here whining about Tim Cook getting involved in this discussion?!? Are you guys really this dense? If this policy had been in place a long time ago, Steve Jobs never would have been born! None of you would be here writing anything. His father was a Syrian immigrant you thick-skulled buffoons!

Get a clue before you comment!

I mean seriously, it's been a week and Trump is bringing all this WIN.

4 years of this might melt all our adrenaline receptors.

yea they don't allow births in Syria, lmao

Likely the same people who are ignorant of the fact that Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian immigrant to the US.

You can not compare this with what's happening now. Steve Jobs father came from a wealthy Syrian family. He was also very smart, hard working, well educated, as well as being a non-practising Muslim. Any country should be happy to welcome someone like him. But he came to the US in the 1950s, before the welfare state.

So back then, if you were a refugee, you could not rely on the state to provide for you. For example, he lived in NYC with a relative, who was the Syrian ambassador to the United Nations (so obviously not your average refugee). Contrast this with the middle eastern and north African refugees that are flocking to the west today. Most of them are really economic refugees, looking for a better life in the west. But unfortunately, many of them do not have the cultural upbringing or are smart enough to do well in a freer society that has largely done away with low skilled jobs. So too many of them end up on welfare. This builds resentment towards the new host nation and integration is nowhere to be found. And because a lot of them can not identify with the people in their new host nation, due to huge cultural differences, many seek their identity and roots in Islam instead. This seems to happen even more in second and third generations.

I wasn't attempting to make any comparison. Just noting that SJ was the son of an immigrant from Syria, a country that's on the banned list.

Just focus on your products Tim. No need to drag Apple into every political issue.

He is. He's got employees in probably every country in the world. He's probably got employees that can't even come to the United States now, where Apple is headquartered, or employees that can't get home to their families.

Sometimes it baffles me that people can't think BEYOND your precious "products" or "the radical Muslims"? This affects GOOD PEOPLE. And it hurts international business as well. Tim has every right to be concerned.

Apple needs PEOPLE to make the products.

I applaud President Trump's action. Not because I hate immigrants, but because I think it's important to find out who's actually coming into your country. If you let in every single person blindly, you're only putting your people at risk. And one of the primary jobs of the leader of a country, is to keep his people safe. And by signing this executive order, Trump (or at least those who are in charge of the nation's security) is given time to find out who they really are.

It's controversial, I get that. Especially since America has been the country of the free etc. etc. And it's not something I would support all the time. Not at all, in fact. But if this can help the Trump administration to come up with ideas to make America safe again (or to speak for the liberals: to keep America safe), I believe it's the best way. It's only temporary after all..

By the way, I do think green card holders should be allowed to enter the United States, because, well... it's a green card, right? Don't think he will, but Trump should definitely change the order to allow those people.

Oh, this letter to me sounds a bit whiny, to be honest. Mr. Cook should focus on his products, not politics.

What is wrong with people? How can it be OK to target entire countries with the vast majority of those being Muslim? The same hate speech during the campaign is becoming reality. This so called president of the free world is using a sledgehammer to drive in a nail. You can't just go to the far extremes overnight to solve a problem that has existed for decades. Both parties need to be involved for agreement because when the next Democrat or sensible Republican takes office these laws will be reversed.
And how can "Mr. Cook" focus on products when he has employees in those countries affected by this action? That's the problem with Trump supporters; it sounds good on paper until the ugly truth smacks you in the face.

Even the tech forums are divided now.

Yes, thank you for noting that we're at war. I've served in all three as the sharp edge of the sword. It is ENTIRELY un-American to deny admittance to those who most need it. We are ALL ourselves from somewhere else.

If we were to do so in a principled manner, we would not allow anyone from Saudi Arabia to enter. How many acts of terror havr been committed by Syrian refugees of any religion? Zero.
As a fellow vet, I stand beside you in your sentiment. We stopped a man who served as a translator for US forces from entering, despite his legal status. This isn't what I wore the uniform and the Constitution we swore to uphold and protect, and I am glad we have a Federal judge with the courage to suspend the order and show we are still a nation of laws.

Having relatives who went though the green card process, I can say first hand it isn't easy. It takes years, resubmitting documents already submitted because INS can't seem to get their stuff in one sack, background checks even for someone who held the highest clearances from the US and NATO, and a lot of of hassle just to get a green card.

Of course, countries where Trump, Inc have interests, who actually have citizens who committed terrorist attacks, are not on the list. Perhaps we should add US states to the lists whose citizens committed terrorist acts, such as Timothy McVea did; and restrict their travel.

you do realize this trump ban is temporary until the government gets their **** together for the vetting process?

If you let in every single person blindly...

If you think that's what America has been doing before this Executive Order, you need to educate yourself man. America has the MOST rigorous entry of any country in the world beyond an outright ban. And no terrorists have come from the seven countries banned since 9/11.

Did you know that an Oscar winning director from Iran is now banned from going to the Oscars? Or that a guy who worked as a translator for the US Military is Iraq for nearly 10 years was detained at the airport? Or how about he 70 year old father of a former LA Times reporter who was put back on a flight to Iraq after arrive at LAX?

Let me guess though.... all terrorists, right? Because screening them is just SO HARD.

I'm mean really? How hard is it to educate yourself about this issue. Trump is on the wrong side of history here.

He's hurting GOOD PEOPLE. And as Time Cook said, he's hurting GOOD APPLE EMPLOYEES. And that's bad for business.

Tim has every right to speak up about this issue.
