Consumer electronic hardware company CEOs talking high level stuff is like going to IDSA conferences just to listen to industrial designers circle jerk about "the data structure of IBM". Like really, there's more tangible, relevant, consumer-facing issues to talk about. no?

Cook is an engineer, so I think it’d go well, actually. But you won’t give him credit for that.

He’s grown Apple by an additional $700B while creating products people continue to buy. As one example, he sold 3X as many iPhones as Jobs ever did.

He also created the wearables market, led Apple to industry leading mobile silicon, and has grown services into a $50B business growing in double digits.

You not liking the products is anecdotal and meaningless. This forum is an echo chamber of hate and disdain, yet the numbers keep rolling in.

Hate on.
Absolutely. Cook is a genius, who grew Apple. If one doesn't like the management of Apple, the direction of Apple or the products, there is much competition out there, and there is something for everyone.

If apple is on "our" side, why don't they encrypt iCloud backup data on the iPhone before uploading?

They encrypt it in transit but it’s true that once it’s on their servers Apple can access it. I understand their argument that the whole point of iCloud backup is to provide maximum restorability for the average iPhone user who values the ability to restore their data more than they value how secure the backups are but in the end I come down on your side.

In my view they should also include an option to encrypt the backup that’s off by default and, when you enable it manually, you receive a huge warning about what that means for your data. Yes you can achieve encrypted online backups if you backup to iTunes using encryption then use a third party app to backup up that data but to me that’s a very inelegant solution and doesn’t work unless you have a PC or Mac with iTunes. Not everybody does, nor should they have to, just to have their devices backups encrypted.

Daaamnnn so many of you hate Apple lmao it’s so sad.

I think hate is a strong word. I think there are more people that are frustrated. Obviously the numbers don’t show this because certain people (especially on these forums) consume financial numbers as binary.

By the time financial numbers actually show the wrong direction, it’ll be an uphill battle to course correct.

With about 250,000,000 customers, there are those many opinions of Apple. The individuals are voicing their opinions, good, bad or indifferent and we will see where we go next quarter.

Of course, there are those that will cite y/y growth, growth of iphones and so on and so forth and forget the forest has trees in it.

What the heck is Cook doing buying all these tiny companies... He needs to buy something that is making a ton of money and leave it alone. Like, Netflix 5 years ago.

Me on Privacy: Hey Timmy, I think your crusade on privacy is fake and used only to sell more iPhones as well as make your customers paranoid of anything but Apple devices. I can handle my own privacy, ok! How about you open up that OS and let me do what I want with it, since you know, I'm paying $1000+ for it!

Lol really?

Have an proof for this hypothesis?
Just how are you going to ensure your privacy, exactly? Has your method been vetted?

(Sry double quote/post somehow)

That's really the truth - Apple doesn't make money off your data. You can comment about the future all you want, but today that's true.

"...if we can't make the best product, we don't go in"

*Except for smart speakers.
I love mine. I haven’t tested a better sounding speaker at that size. And, unlike the iPhone, the voice recognition/detection is freaking crazy good. Loud music, and I can essentially whisper “hey SIRI . . . “ I don’t understand why the phone can’t be better. I think anyone who owns HomePod would agree on both the audio quality and the implementation of SIRI is better than on any other device of comparable size. If you don’t have one in your home, which apparently is a majority, then stop critiquing it. (You know, like, if your haven’t seen a movie, I also don’t need to hear your review of it). The “hey SIRE” recognition is so uncanny, I demo it at my home to friends like it is some kind of parlor trick. My back to the speaker, 10 feet away, at 70% volume, my friend in front of me, and I whisper to my friend; “hey SIRI, I like this song” - and she reply’s that she will play more like it, etc. “no way!” Is always the response of the person I show this too - with several more demos to prove it wasn’t jury a fluke.

Please give some examples that specifically relate to the data that Apple sends to Google when performing a search. Or are you just ASSUMING that Google is able identify you just so you can claim Apple isn't protecting your privacy?

Apple doesn't have to send any data - anyone who uses Google's search engine is sending data to Google, and Apple is paid a rumored $9B/year to make that the case for iPhone users.

Any time a trillion dollar company says they're on my side, I have to pause and question their intentions.

because the reality is, they're only on the investors side.

A huge data breach would be terrible for everyone involved, and would devastate Apple's reputation for caring about privacy and consequently the stock price.

Exactly. Tim sounds super confident and touting their privacy is great marketing, but it also opens them up to hackers who are up to the challenge. It’s like an invitation to try and hack us.

Yes, it's been vetted by me! Are you suggesting I go and hire an outside company to do an audit just to prove a point on MacRumors? Lol. Trust me, I've been into network and internet security for about 15 years now. I'm no dummy! There's tons of Open Source projects out there to enhance your security online, you should give it a look instead of relying on a billion dollar corporation to do it, I mean, you can only take their word for it, I can see the results myself of my work myself.

Nah people on here legit hate Apple. They hate Tim, the obsession with thinness, Angela, Eddy, the lack of innovation, the stores etc.

Majority of people love Apple or at least tolerate them. The revenue shows this.

Hopefully course correction won’t need to be done for a long time.

What's really sad is none of the moan-n-whine peeps have the courage to switch. Much easier to whimper and stay angry/unhappy. It is entertaining though.

Not me... No way I'd ever go back to a thick-n-heavy laptop. My 2017 MBP is perfect, keyboard included. Tim Cook is doing an outstanding job, on many fronts. And one of the reasons I purchase Apple products.

They still have much to do with privacy/security but I will take Apple over Google every day of the week.

Are you saying you don’t have Google maps installed on your phone? How about Gmail? YouTube? Google search? Facebook? Etc??

Also apparently the cell phone providers are selling your location data to anybody with the money to buy it. Etc Etc. etc.

So…no privacy on your iPhone. Sorry about that.

So you don't actually have any proof, nor do you understand the underlying architecture of iOS.

Then why don't you list the EXACT software and settings you use. Then those of use with Android devices can duplicate your methods and try them out for ourselves.
