That has been my question. Are the 250 Apple Employee "Dreamers" that Tim is talking about all have work permits? If so, for how long? Do they have valid SSN's? Really just curious. My personal stance is I think we need immigration reform but I think it must include border security as a prerequisite. We already did this with President Reagan in 1983 but we never did border security and look where we are now. We really need to push back on the Open Border Crowd.

If I am not mistaken they are granted a work permit for a number of years after applying for DACA status. With this legal work permit, they get a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) which is effectively used as their SSN for tax purposes. Someone can feel free to correct me on the specifics but I believe this is the meat of it.

The reason it is unconstitutional is because immigration is the job of Congress. Congress wouldn't pass the law so Obama issued an executive order on it on his own so he completely circumvented the separation of powers/checks and balances laid out in the constitution.

I definitely agree with you about the borders. We absolutely want LEGAL immigration but we have to protect our borders and make sure the immigration is done the right way. Border protection is not just about illegal aliens but also illegal goods, drugs, and terrorists.

I think he makes it somewhat convoluted points about the fact that, while Tim comes across as an angel, he’s using his bully pulpit to push his company’s agenda: access to cheaper and better engineers. If you truly believe Tim lives to help the helpless, ask him why margins are so high.

Sincerely, a shareholder.

I'm a shareholder too and I like that he's sticking up for a minority group that makes up a small group of his staff. I'm sure he wouldn't fire those of them who became residents or citizens. You're benefitting off the fact that he, like most other tech companies, is employing them to make the product that you use everyday better. Margins are high to keep you happy as well.

I wish we could cut back on the politically-charged threads on the front page. I mean good on Tim and all of that, but there are about a billion other sites where people can troll, flame, and bicker about these various issues, whereas I come here for Mac and iPhone RUMORS and Apple related tech news. I think the news about changes to the camera and the iPhone 8 color schemes are more valuable to me on this site than Tim Cook's latest political statement.

Anyway, continue.

1800s? If you're going to talk about a subject, you should at least be somewhat familiar with it. What tiny, cushy little bubble do you live in that Native peoples and nations don't still exist and live every day in the reality defined and continually shaped by that ONGOING history.

Yes, it's relevant. You can try to pound stakes in the timeline immediately before and after your presence on an ancient, complicated, dynamic country as the only span of relevance, but to think others aren't going to recognize & point out how absurdly foolish you're being takes... something else.
Okay. Perhaps they can give me some of that casino bling.

Or, we should just open the borders and let everyone in. If that is your attitude, I don't agree but certainly appreciate the fact you believe it and own it.

Replace the word congress with "the establishment" and you will realize he has been doing it all along and that is why he got elected. Now he has something they want.... and they can get it... if they play ball. He is negotiating and the louder the fever pitch over rescinding DACA, the more ammunition he has. They have 6 months .. will they put a real immigration reform bill on his desk?

Trump is appeasing his "base" and also as you said using the DREAMERS act as a negotiation tool to get more money for his stupid wall in the upcoming immigration bill.

I'm gonna go rob an Apple store and give all the products to my kids. Sounds like Timmy wouldn't make them give anything back. /s

Yep, and since your kids didn't have a say, it's okay for them to be criminals too, they can keep all the stuff, and in fact, Tim should be required to provide AppleCare free for the stolen products. How dare someone take away what's rightfully theirs. LOL

You mean a huge portion of "Americans" who abuse the welfare program and don't provide a dime to the American economy?

Free publicity.

Call it even.

/s

The country's social programs and nature of it become a welfare State are certainly another area in need of reform.

Do you know what else is disgusting? People who have no idea what racism actually is, and instead, applies it to things that others disagree with in an effort to shut them up so as to not hear what they're actually saying.

People think anything MEAN is racist, sexist, homophobic, or some other phobe. News flash, just because people disagree with you don't mean they're any of those things.

DACA as an executive order is unconstitutional. A version of DACA as passed by congress is not unconstitutional and Trump will support it.... as soon as tax reform is also signed, which Tim Cook wants badly for Apple, a replacement for Obamacare is signed and an infrastructure bill is signed..... Did we really think Trump was just going to give up on his agenda? He is only trying to force congress to do their job. Whats the worst that could happen for Trump? more name calling?

please provide legal evidence that it's unconstitutional.

As far as I know there is no real legal case against most of DACA (there is one small part of DACA that is questionable), the Supreme Court was divided 4-4 along party lines in a 2016 case challenging programs similar to DACA. so do please provide evidence that it is unconstitutional. or are you quoting Fox news or the alt-right (which I suspect)??

Some ridiculously bad analogies here by people whose ancestors just had to pass a tuberculosis test to get here. This is truly the American spirit.

Your analogy was worse... your parents didn't have to even pass through a metal detector to get on an airplane. Let's go back to that methodology but just on flights YOU are flying on. This is truly the American spirit.

Trump is appeasing his "base" and also as you said using the DREAMERS act as a negotiation tool to get more money for his stupid wall in the upcoming immigration bill.

And Tax reform, which Apple has publicly lobbied for to repatriate all of their overseas money, a replacement for Obamacare, and infrastructure spending bill etc. All the stuff he ran and got elected to do.

President Trump wants to stop illegal immigrants from taking American jobs, oh the humanity!!!

Taking what jobs exactly? Every white American including my 18 year old nephew may be getting great grades but HE and his possee show NO ambition and have lived an incredibly PRIVILEDGED life including planned activities like soccer, basketball, camps, golf etc etc etc.

When SOME of these loudest critics prove that their children are hard workers, have a work ethic, and have PASSION to accomplish anything anything for god sake - I'll listen.

HEAR THIS

Americas productivity problem comes from a material driven society that could care less about the conscience of its fellow citizens as long as their cable, internet, smart phones and their two jet skis in their garages are safe! Oh and that they have access to plenty of ammo and dates at the local shooting range.

I started working a job as a stock boy at age 12. My nephew and his friends are 18 going on 19 and yet to HOLD A JOB..these kids have never picked up a hammer or know what the hell a paintbrush can do.

Yea - oh the humanity is right.

America -- if you really want to work then get off your asses and effect real change.

Americans clearly wanted this seeing how they VOTED for Trump.

Most Americans didn't vote for Trump, so I guess your premise is incorrect.

Great. Thiz is why I voted TRUMP.
Send them back quick plz

America 4 Americans

What the hell did some dreamer do to you? Wow.

Sure. They can be treated as people. People in the country illegally. Life isn't fair. If you have to make exceptions for every case that breaks your heart you will no longer have rules.

And then we can be like Europe.

Europe? I've got some bad news for you. The United States is different and forever intertwined with Mexico. We have a shared history and have held the same territory. We have many cities, streets, etc. with SPANISH names based on Mexican heritage. We even have a state called New Mexico. And we will never be able to escape that. There is always going to be this tension and this constant immigration problem no matter how many walls are built or laws are passed.

If you are that heartless that you could throw all these kids who came here through no fault of their own under the bus, then I have to question you as a person. I really do. If only the Indians had taken the same tact. Guess you wouldn't be here to complain about Dreamers.

good for him. if these people are working, paying their taxes, and obeying the law, what is the problem?

"but they're illegal!" their parents may have been, but they (the kids) were brought here or born here without any choice. now we've let them live here and develop skills, and contribute to our society and people want to send them away?

why would you punish someone for a crime they did not commit? absolutely no one on earth appreciates being at fault for something they did not do.

EDIT: also, my imagination tells me that we have already spent tax money on them, for example by putting them through public school. now we're going to piss away those skills and give that away to somewhere else?

Pretty simple - two wrongs does not make a right.

You have to fix the problem sooner or later. That includes shutting down DACA and then reforming the immigration process to help streamline it.

This unconstitutional executive order put forth by President #44 put no one in a good position. He should have stopped when Congress told him "No" to legislation on the matter.

And the best sub-tweet comes from Macro Rubio:

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me"; Matthew 25:35

But I do think DACA was wrong and it should be congress adressing this not an executive order. In fact I wish executive orders weren’t allowed. Presidents shouldn’t be able to make/change law just because congress doesn’t do what they want.

The reason the "latino labor force" exists is because of illegal immigration. Do you travel much? Go to the UK, or France, or Australia. They don't have the under the table workforces America has, therefor there's not a population available to clean your house for $5 an hour. When that segment doesn't exist, do you think people just have dirty houses? No, it's legal workers doing the work for legal wages. Your argument is so stupid.

I am from Europe and you just pointed out why I and no one else i know have a cleaning lady cuz 5$ pay? Maybe to flip the pillows. To sum up what i meant, the thing you are complaining about would make things just more expensive

I'm no expert in this stuff but I believe the thought is to discourage more parents from bringing children here, not necessarily to punish the children. If the child becomes a citizen, they can then sponsor their parent for a permanent resident card. If DACA is "openly" allowed, I can see many parents risking their and their child's safety to bring them to the US.

Again, I am no expert and I don't know claim to know what is right here. Above are just my thoughts on what the administration is attempting to prevent.

Agree completely. I suspect Macrumors posts these to generate a ton of page views in the forums... :)

Remember when CEO's were publicly shamed upon getting exposed for hiring illegals instead of American citizens?

Amazing how the media and their useful idiot brigade have turned hiring illegals into being something fashionable... I don't know how or why the Left has taken up the argument that anything less than having open borders is "racist", and that a country enforcing their own immigration laws is "cruel"....but it's beyond bizarre.
