A traffic jam does less damage to my journey than cancer would to my life.

Perhaps traffic contributes to cancer since it induces high level of stress and you sit for an extended period which isn't healthy and on top of that surrounded by toxic cloud.

Honestly China has much larger population, but our public transit system is kind of outdated and rotten compared to China's.

And Cook is a globalist, I don't think he cares just about America.
Since Cook has done all he can to ensure that the company he leads in the United States does not pay taxes on all their profits, i have to conclude that he does not care at all about the country he lives and works in.

Not globalist but a traitor and national threat to the West for hiding money offshore and not paying fair share of taxes while bankrupting or swindling companies and transferring intellectual property offshore like with UK Dialog Semiconductor, UK Imagination Technologies, US GT Advanced, US Qualcomm, etc. Timothy Cook should be locked up in Gitmo more than anyone else.
Cook's accounting practices has inspired many other company executives to plant their corporate profits overseas. The shareholders never see the money, but since they are still listed as corporate profits, Cook and his fellow executives give themselves huge bonuses. Just so they don't have to pay US taxes that fund things like health and infrastructure.

And Apple may go the way of Nokia!

You know, Nokia, the Leading phone maker that was "untouchable"

Unlikely anytime soon. Apple and Andriod own the market and have their users fairly locked in. They key is their respective app stores. You can switch between the two but if you want to take your favorite apps with you to some other platform outside of iOS and Andriod good luck with that.

Nokia missed the smartphone / touch interface / music player / App Store cell phone revolution. There's not likely to be another paradigm shift like that in the cell phone market again anytime soon.

Only way to get rid of gridlock is to get people put of their cars and onto mass transit.

Improved traffic control will help but capacity will Be reached sooner rather than later.

For all that money, TC could have developed the fastest, watercooled, nano selfrepairing, ultra GPU equipped, tenfold overclocked, 48 core, TB3, ultra turbo, 120GB RAM, 2400GB SSD, MacPro monster in a 18 slot expandable chassis.
But he preferred some Chinese cab company with lots of fancy pipeline promises...
I wish Apple would go for a foldable flip-phone with all of their unused patents on that subject.

"my fully automated electric car" => "Ride-sharing companies' fully automated electric car"

, and, at a total cost lower than owning and maintaining a car in person.

I think consumers are going to own them as well as ride sharing companies. Especially since the Tesla 3 out in 2018 already fits this description and they have half a million preorders. But I agree with you, ride share companies will be a big part of it. And I can totally see these evolving into a utility of sorts maintained by a city or state. Hopefully soon all of us just pay for rides when we need them at a significantly lower price than owning and maintaining our own vehicle. :)

Apple better watch out for phone-sharing
(instead of trying to be the smart guys in automotive - which they aren't)

That wasted space in your house called the garage will be a thing of the past along with the parking clutter on the street.

Tim, while solving the traffic jam in China, you just created an Apple mothership that will force 5000 people travel to the office creating traffic jam on the roads near to the office! Wish you had thought about that before building your new headquarter.

Why would anyone in their right mind hire a someone from overseas to help solve a traffic problem! They have a food crisis over in that nation and that why china is trying to buy up everyone's food supply and Tim thinks they can help solve a American traffic problem! You are right, Fire this idiot.

China doesn't have a grain belt due to the nature of the continent itself. What does that have to do with this company and the way they are approaching traffic? What does the US actually have that they didn't steal from the native Americans?

The building that Steve Jobs requested and presented while he was alive, that was already in motion when he died?

Hmm... There last quarter says otherwise. We get these remarks every single year, and Apple never really falls off. I imagine 20 years from now people will still say Apple is failing

More reason Timothy Cook should be fired since he should be back home in California solving problems before going abroad.

That's why Tesla is king since AI and autopilot will remove the flaws of human driving from the equation and being based in the heart of Los Angeles they know traffic better than anyone else.
......Yeah, let's just see Tessa make some real cash flow first, And not investment dream money.

Unlike traffic jams, I actually liked flip phones.

Maybe one day we might even get an Apple 'Flip' Phone (fold up phone / iPad).

No praise for the true innovators Tesla, Uber, Lyft, etc.?

How is Lyft a true innovator and Didi not? They were founded at the same time and Didi's valuation is 4 times higher. Uber had one fantastic idea, but the company itself is not worthy of any praise. Tesla doesn't have to be in every article. It seems your regional bias is showing.

That's a stupid thing to say (oh wait, it's dip stick Tim Cook), given flip-phones were awesome. No chance of accidental key or screen presses. I've heard rumors that Samsung is going to bring a variation back soon with two touch screens on the inside for dual-screen multi-tasking action! Apple will then copy them 2-3 years later (actually you could have 3 touch screens with one on the outside for quick access and two on the inside for more serious uses).

The best way to get rid of traffic jams is to get rid of cars.

The better solution would be to develop housing around a public bus, train or subway transit system and to make our communities more walkable and bikeable.

Not if it’s using Apple Maps and Siri it won’t. Not by a long shot.

Funny you say that. During Easter I was in Yorkshire dales in an information centre and I overheard a discussion by the manager and some tourists, the manager said that she had so many people turn up to the wrong location cause of iPhone "maps" and could not understand why people did not verify where they were going instead of just trusting thier smartphones.

Apple maps badly needs an offline mode . Google maps saved my bacon on tHe weekend.

I live in Beijing and can't see any sort of algorithm or anything else that will solve traffic jams / congestion here. I'd like to see what they come up with on a national holiday here when there are a gazzilion people trying to to get through three toll booths.

Also there is nothing like getting stuck behind a gaggle of people on rental bikes who are on their phones or watching TV while riding. It's awesome !!!!! lol

Any posts where he actually talks about Apple products and a product vision, and says something meaningful ?His awesome at deflection ..... Politics is calling ....

Flip phone. Apple is a great company but they have long sold this nation out.

You do have a point. Could never see jobs kissing ass like this.
