There are a lot of people who bought new phones because they were not told that a new battery would fix the throttling. Those people might want some compensation I suppose, as a new phone is $600-$1200 these days.

You think these people would accept a semi refund if they turn in their “new” iPhone and switch back to an old iPhone 6 with a new battery?

Yep your reward is you will now have the option for your device to shutdown at random times if you want. But hey when you click an icon on the home screen that app will load a few milliseconds faster! (if it don't totally crash) So that's a double win! :)

You are ignoring this point: now people will be told than a simple battery replacement will solve the Slow Phone problem. That was obviously not known prior to this. People thought the only fix was a new $700 phone.
Geez.

No reason for you to go nuts defend the company that makes $1 billion a week in profit, and which obviously made a Bunch of errors recently, thus the 40 and counting law suits. It’ll all get worked out.

Doubling down on their lies.

The random reboot at like 40% was happening on new phones (hence, new batteries). They are continuing to cover up the true hardware flaw.

Win-Win for Apple.

Now you not only get accurate battery health straight from Apple (which should be more accurate than any battery Apps) you also get the choice on how to deal with it.

Now this presents a problem for Android vendors. They are in a lose-lose situation.

If they don’t add this feature to their devices, then Apple will have a useful feature that their competitors lack. Lose.

If they DO add this feature then they are not only copying Apple but legitimizing what Apple has done with regard to power management. Lose.

I asked an honest question.

Would people really prefer the cheaper iPhone 6 with a new battery or a more expensive iPhone 8?

Except folks who can just go spend that $700 for a new phone just because their old one slowed down a little at times probably don't really care and were looking for an excuse to get the latest and greatest anyway. Not like the phone was totally destroyed and no longer worked. I mean at the end of the day, a few milliseconds slower opening the phone app or checking email once in a while isn't the end of the world.

So you are implying that people who can afford a new phone don’t mind being ripped off. I’m one of those people, and I mind.

It’s obvious that plenty of people would replace a battery rather than buying a new expensive phone, if they were told that it would fix the problem.
Especially when the new phone looks exactly like the one they already own.

This company is so full of it ...
If you know anything about lithium ion battery, specially on technologies, you'll thank Apple for doing so. You shouldn't be mad at Apple because they throttled the battery, you should be mad about their transparency.

Apple got caught slowing down old iPhones on purpose - whether it was to drive additional upgrades or to compensate for weak batteries - their motivation doesn't really matter. They got caught, and they're about to pay a heavy price for it.
i'm pretty sure here's what's going to happen--
Apple will lower the price for battery replacements in iPhones..
iOS will have another power mgmt toggle.

that's it.. and the hype will die shortly.

maybe a little too dramatic up there (imo)
