Everyone keeps saying that but I don’t see too many people willing to shell out 1500 for a phone. Even if you’re making 2x the National salary that’s still 2% of you yearly salary after taxes.
Exactly my thoughts. Maybe the iPhone X will be the best phone available on market at launch day but cheaper alternatives will ruin that party sooner then later. It seems to me that Apple doesn’t have a clue what’s already out there.

Psst.

Nokia already did a cylindrical phone (lipstick) and a Triangular-like-prism phone back in the day. ;)

I'd rather not see Tim or Craig use that Triangle hand-gesture not unlike the TV Show "V" (Original) and V (2009).

I know I’m out of topic but loved that TV SHOW. To come back to the topic... Apple is behaving like V. They dictate what people want instead of listening to their needs.

I just picked up my iPhone 8 from AT&T after initially ordering an 8 Plus from the Apple Store and I have to say it’s definitely a nicer looking phone than what came before it. I traded in a Matte Black 7 for a Silver 8 and the glass back is beautiful. The texture is much nicer to hold than the aluminum and while the phone is slighter heavier than my 7 I think it makes the phone easier to hold and type on. The display isn’t a huge upgrade but the true tone is nice. The camera seems to have better light filtration but I can’t tell if that’s related to the display or the updated camera.

Biggest reasons to upgrade include the wireless charging, faster processor and better camera. Not a necessary upgrade but it only costs me $15 more a month than my 7 so why not?

you made it sound like Apple invented wireless charging, Android have this like 3 years now, this cannot be one of the biggest reason to upgrade...

The fact that this has even been mentioned shows that the iPhone 8 missed the boat. It is already out of date and too expensive. The X looks like the result of corporate panic meets deadline, meets design - Samsung are streets ahead in cool looking gear - and I'm an Apple fan!!!!

I doubt that Tim would say in a press release that he was unhappy with a product launch.
Drudge Report is trashing the new products saying no one is in the stores or in line to buy products from Apple store...but he has a track record of being a chronic liar....and he has NO advertisers...not one.

I don’t care if Android has had it for 3 years. I hate Android. I would never buy an Android so there is no point in anyone making that comparison.

The iPhone 8 should have never been made and all the manufacturing resources should have been put into the X as this is what people are waiting for. Not the same rehashed design for the last 4yrs.

You know how Wall Street will takes this. If it didn’t sell out within seconds, lines several blocks long weren’t observed, or people weren’t beating the **** out of each other to get one, then it was a catastrophic failure.

Ohhhhh well if Drudge says it, it must be true...................

With regards to iPhone 8 launch, I think "bleak turnout" is the wrong phrase. Maybe "reserved" would be better/more accurate. Of course almost everyone would love to have the new X, but that's not realistic for everyone. There may be many people "holding out" for the X, but will end up buying the 8 anyway. I currently have a 6s. If I upgrade at all, it will probably be to the 8. Chances are I'll be waiting another year for the "9" or the "XI".

Maybe you didn’t hear me right. I didn’t get a new Civic because I don’t like the current design. The 2012 design was nicer IMO. To me a smart phone is like a TV. Who complains that TVs are boring because they’re not re-designed every year? Outside of removing bezels or adding gimmicks how much can you really change the design of a smartphone?

This is what its come to. Good comparison to the TV market. Phones have reached a critical mass that even a 3-4 year old iPhone does MOSTLY what the brand spanking new ones do. Which is why they're still keeping the SE and 6S around. Pretty much the same thing that happened to iPads a couple years ago.

I will say if they put that dual camera in the smaller for factor then you'd see the lines around the blocks. I cant see carrying around a giant brick around even for the nicer camera......but now there's the X that solves that problem but introduced more controversy.

Naturally Tim Cook is going to say something positive about the iPhone 8, Which I agree it will continue to sell well. But it's not nearly in demand as much as the other iPhones have been in the past. I think a lot of consumers are holding out for the iPhone X.

Early adopters may favour the iPhone X, but early adopters are also typically your more tech savvy people who want to have biggest and best. However, once the dust settles I think the iPhone 8 and 7 will both outsell the X as price will be a bigger deciding factor for your everyday Apple customer.

My local news showed 8 whole people in line at my local Apple store at 8AM.
Because your local news doesn't have anything better to do? Did they also show all the people who ordered their iPhones online and received them via UPS/FedEx/etc?

Lots of people complained about having to line up. Apple fixed it so people don't have to line up. So people complain that nobody's lining up.

Here's what the Apple’s Covent Garden London store was like on the first day of sales for the iPhone 8...

One more time. Everyone agrees, there will be less demand for the iPhone 8 because of the millions who will be ordering the iPhone X. That said, just like you experienced with the iPhone 6, some phones are already two to three weeks delayed.

It’s nowhere near the 6 - my local store has them in stock. When the 6 came out I looked everywhere but it was impossible to find stock anywhere.

About the millions waiting to buy the X - I am not so sure.

I think the choice of getting either the 8 or the X is not a good idea. If you get the 8, you don’t really have the latest and greatest, if you get the X you have to pay a lot more. Before you could just get the current phone and we’re up to date.
Choice is not always a good thing which is why Apple used to have a pretty streamlined lineup - but unfortunatly they don’t anymore.

I live in a small town in England and my local phone shop never normally has any stock of the new iPhone on release, went in today and they have stock of both sizes and storage options. The shop guy was saying it’s the quietest iPhone launch he’s seen and was laughing that they had been told, “expect to be very busy!” Apple needs the X to be a massive seller, but can they make enough to make up for the disappointing numbers of 8 been sold, Wall Street is certainly spooked at the moment.

I agree. But my point was then why even launch the 8. Instead do one thing really well instead of introducing fragmentation in the same generation of hardware.
It has been speculated that since Samsung is only able to supply a limited number of OLED screens this model year (80 million I think it was) that Apple had to have an LCD model to satisfy the other 100 million of demand.

I drive a 2012 Civic. Just paid it off this year. No interest in ugrading because I prefer my cars design to their newer models.
Sweet. Now you can enjoy 10 more years of no loan payments—and minimal cost of maintenance and repair. And you can put 40k into your retirement fund instead.
