/TLDR this whole thread but do have to wonder at all the people who think they can run Apple better than Tim Cook.

I've used Apple gear since the 80's and have loved the company the whole time and yes, I though Steve was a great guy but he's gone and has been for some years now. Steve Jobs personally chose Tim Cook to be his successor and not only did he chose him for a reason but the board of Apple have kept him in that position. Do you think they are giving him bazillions of dollars because they think he's crap?

He's in charge of arguably the biggest and best company on the planet and whilst it might not make the products us Apple nuts want, might be heading in a direction we don't like, might not update Macs as often as we want etc etc it does make more money than anyone else does.

If Tim was no good in his job then he'd be gone, conversely if all the people on here that think they can do it better actually could run a company like Apple then they would be doing just that - instead, they're all on here telling us that they know better than the Apple board of directors and can do better than one of the highest paid men on the planet. Hilarious.

I don't think anyone is saying THEY could do a better job as CEO than Tim Cook. What they are saying is that SOMEONE could and SOMEONE should. What they are voicing is their frustration at watching Apple stagnate and lose focus, vision, and imagination. Apple is simply coasting, resting on its laurels, while letting what was once perceived to be its "magic", its ability to surprise and amaze, die. It seems to me that anyone who would seriously dispute this is simply not paying attention to anything but the bottom line---which iDevices alone will not be able to prop-up forever.
Apple used to be, dare I say it? Different. In a good way. And now they are not. They are like everyone else, just richer, for the time being.

What's hilarious is that you seem to think that because a ceo hasn't been booted he's automatically doing a great job.

Fair enough. But we have all witnessed Wang, Xerox, IBM, Kodak, Nokia, Blackberry, etc., and many others "harvested" by Wall Street and destroyed. We see the same thing now happening to Apple. And Apple WAS special. Tim Cook is just the visible person to shout at.

And I would tell every graduate not to listen to a word this idiot says !

Hopefully he tells us what's in the pipeline for the Magic Kingdom.

What is hilarious is your lack of understanding that the money Apple makes and the size of the corporation have all been propelled by Steve's agenda / product genius / his team's execution. Cook has been coasting on that for his entire tenure as CEO - he should have remained in the supply chain role.

I think all the students should replace their tassels with dongles.

As for the hate about this man, I can see people's frustration, because by now it is obvious that he is not a visionary (Never was hired for that) or creative product person and he has to know he is not.

What I would criticize is that the support cast from the creative team isn't coming up with anything but updating what they have. Maybe a shake up is in order?

The salami tactic to put another slice after little slice into a mature product like the iPhone , ipad etc. is no longer accepted for the price points they command.

Most People are just waiting longer to upgrade, which is why they have to look into other markets.

All in all he was so far able to protect the bottom line billions, but in the product/ creative department he has been disappointing. He should not even make the presentations.

If I was presented with a Hello again, event and all my employees would put on my desk was that MBP, I would have asked: That's all? Are we done with Macs? You guys have to be kidding!

Depending on what I was told, I would have said that we need fireworks for the next Mac presentation and postponed it until iMac, Mini maybe Pro (Don't think they care) etc. were ready.

Another few months of waiting wouldn't have mattered, but at least there was something to show and see.

Oh well.

I think they needed a 15" or 17" souped up version of a MBP and that would have squashed some of the criticism. A graphics amplifier may have helped as well. 4 amazing future proof USB ports and nothing made for them. Apple failed IMO to show why they matter right now.

I do think he needs to answer MS and their push at creatives. I'd also like to seem him focus on catering to mac devs. Apple is about the mac. Iphones are nice and responsible for the bulk of profits and all, but I wouldn't really be interested in that without the Mac.

And sure, I'm for Apple getting their required margins but Apple could be a bit less transparent in that department. Steve had a way of getting those profits too without seeming that greedy about it.

If I were an MIT senior I wouldn't get too excited. Based on Tim Cook's ability to deliver on his promises -- *cough* AirPods *cough* -- I don't see him showing up for the 2017 graduation any time before 2019.

Then instead of saying, Mr. Cook is an idiot (very disrespectful), they could take the time to define their position as you have done. I for one, growing tired of simple minds using one disrespectful name calling word to attack successful people in both business and politics. Good job on your post, which I agree with.

Good luck to MIT grads trying to stay awake through this!

Sucks for you guys! So many other actually inspiring choices out there. Instead you get the bland head of a corporation that is the epitome of offloading manufacturing to China and skirting tax through complicated legal loopholes.

What an inspired choice and role model for young professionals. I wonder how much Apple paid to get this gig!

Don't forget all of those huge legacy companies outsourcing their engineering, too.

Completely off topic, but anyway:)

Is it just me or it is becoming the norm for Americans to express even the most common things using over the top superlatives? As a European, or even worse, Danish, i find it hard to believe that everything magical, epic, extraordinary, courageous, genius, brilliant and so on. Which phrases are left when you have to describe something that really deserves these terms?

How about Danish?

Yep remember the "K" car? It's the 80's all over again. It's just that not everyone realizes that Apple is GM in the 1980's.

Maybe he will annouce the new mac pro with 2 cpu slots pci slots for all those to be pros from MIT?

They'll all buy or be working at places that has top-end Boxx or HP machines. Before the jobs are outsourced. Especially if they're in aerospace.

ooh nooo!!! we know what flavor colleges teach already today and that 's already a big problem

he will try to lecture people on how buying an iPad will replace a computer,
to witch I say:

Tim we don't want an iPad or an iCar, we want:

A new mac mini with easy user replaceable RAM and HD, 8 core and 16 core version

A new updated Mac Pro with space inside for HDs and expansion cards like the previous one was

and many, many, many, many, ports

by the way Tim NEEDS TO WORK instead of giving pointless speeches, he is only an inspiration on what not to do with a company

Can someone serious in the press ask this fool why apple hasn't updated it's computers in years when any other manufacturer has ?

Yes... It seems as it is now the norm. Other words I am so tired of hearing are: leadership, luxury, excellence...
