He does have a point. Every time I ran on a treadmill with headphones it was the weight of the chord pulling the headphone out of my ears, as well as me hitting the chord and pulling it out. I'm sure they aren't completely treadmill/workout safe, but I think I believe him to a point that they are better than the wired ones.

okay, her face, when Tim starts BSing.....priceless .

Timbo really does not come across as tech savvy.....I suggest people watch the video.

If you're suggesting that the audio quality of the 3.5mm jack is inferior, you would be in error.

what a dork:

as in.. headphones are normal.. i think if we're going to have wearables to be worn on our heads, it's going to start with headphones as they'll be the things most likely to gain widespread adoption.

the headphones are going to get smarter.. motion sensors will go in them.. they'll be able to gauge what the user is doing and react accordingly.. something like that is probably what we'll see first.. very soon.

i think 50year old plug won't be able to transfer data to/from the headphones in the ways necessary to evolve the headphones.

Do you seriously think Samsung will adopt lightning?
no.. usb-c.. but they'll definitely be dropping 3.5mm eventually.

My experience is that it is the wire that causes the EarPods to fall out. Occasionally when I forget my Shure earphones I use my EarPods and it's either the weight of the wire, or more frequently the wire dragging on clothing etc... that make them fall out. Given Apple give you 14 days to return a product, I think you'd know within a couple of hours if these will work for you...

I thought that too and as we had a set of dead apple earphones I cut the cable off and put the earphones in - they fell out in <2 minutes. Both kids lasted less than 5 minutes before the earphones fell out. It's not always the cables, it's simply that ears are not all the same size and shape. Why do we have different watch band sizes, clothing sizes, shoes, how about glasses styles - thats because the body is not the same for everyone.

Having a hard plastic earphone simply does not seem logical to me. Mount it in a flexible silicone housing so it becomes an in-ear setup like my QC 20's or my Jabra whatever they are ones and they will rarely ever come loose and with a few cents worth of additional silicone to give a range of sizes they will fit almost everyone's ears

Yeah, you keep trying Tim. Best line was from The NYT

"They evoked mockery from one of my editors, who said, “Cigarettes belong in your mouth, not your ears, Brian.”

They need earpieces in skin tone colors. Done.

Reuse all that R&D from the darn emoji's

Speaking of skin tone. When I watched the keynote it really seemed like the majority of the models in the various videos and photos wearing them were darker skinned. i.e. no lily white Scandinavians like me. The contrast really did make the AirPods stand out and look cooler.

As with all white clothing/accessories I'm sure they'll just make me look more pale.

I usually wear the usual corded Apple EarPods when running and all goes fine - outdoors. I'm too cheap to invest in anything else - aside from some nice noise canceling over the ears. For some reason when I run on a treadmill (which I hate anyways) I always end up snagging the cord occasionally and pulling them out. I'm actually excited for the AirPods because I find the EarPods very comfortable, so assuming they are the same shape I'll love them.

When they had the cords attached did they fall out of your ears within 2 minutes?

Why is it that every time Tim Cook talks, it feels like he's trying to sell you something. He just feel genuine and relaxed, its always all magical and perfect

You see a lot of analog signals going through usb-c?

Geez Flat Five, What part of Analog vs Digital don't you understand, and don't tell me you've got cochlear implants

Yes they sure did. Well 5 minutes sitting doing very little, 2 minutes doing things around the shed. The cord definitely made it a little worse, but the point is that the shape does not fit my ears at all.

I have an iPhone and I'm currently typing this on a 2014 MBP so, I obviously understand the concept of paying for premium goods but $150.00 for wireless earbuds? Give me a freakin' break lol. I think the free wired ear buds provided with my iPhone will do.
How much would you expect to pay for a premium pair of earbuds? All things considered, I think they are fairly competitively priced.

it's not really even an analog vs digital argument.. i get it that that's what you were talking about when i quoted you..

the headphones need a more capable connection.. lighting/usb-c can deliver where as the phone jack can't.

Didn't Phil Schiller just chastise the public for saying iPods, iPads, iPhones? So now it's okay to pluralize an Apple product? Marketing fail whoever came up with the name on this one.
I don't know for sure obviously but maybe it has something to do with products that only come in pairs? Just a guess...

Is it really necessary to go on GMA to pitch Apple products and reassure people that ditching the 3.5mm jack was the right decision?

Apple products used to practically sell themselves. How times have changed.

Was just going to mention, why does Tim feel he has to do the PR route after a product release. To me, it just reeks of his underlying understanding that things just are not as good or as 'innovative' as they used to be. Maybe it's his stand of courage....

Can't wait for this.

I never bought into the nonsense that airpods would fall out. Apple always sweats these details. They wouldn't allow it to slip through.

How old are you kiddo? Look up G4 Cube, Hockey Puck mouse, Antenna-gate, Touch-disease... just for starters.
[doublepost=1473818013][/doublepost]
Totally. It's so overused. You would think Apple was run by Harry Potter and located within the confines of Hogwarts castle. He really needs a new word. If a word is overused it begins to lose impact.

It's what happens when the bureaucrats and MBAs start to kill a tech company.
[doublepost=1473818180][/doublepost]
Why is it too big? Why do I need a thinner device when the camera protrudes? Why not leave the jack there, make the device 1mm thicker but fill the additional space with a battery that will last longer than it does now. I used to go 2 days of moderate use on a charge with my 4 and 4S. Now I get nervous if I'm more that 10 minutes away from a lightning cable and I rarely get a full day out of the battery before needing a topup. Yes my usage has changed, but so has the phone size, its power usage and battery technology.

Because the camera protrudes I need my phone in a case, which immediately negates the gain of a thinner phone.

It's because Jony Ive has tech anorexia and Tim doesn't have the balls to say no...

What's more capable than the a signal your ears can actually perceive?

Nothing comes out of a lightning or USB jack that you can hear without a DAC.

Or do you just like adding cheap DACs into the flow whenever possible?

AirPods will definitely come shipped with iPhone 8. We're in a transition phase this year.

Apple could've only shipped Lightning EarPods, be grateful for a change. They're giving you a choice.

You are dreaming. Apple won't give away their Airbuds next year. If anything they would have given them away this year to placate the whiners over the lose of the headphone jack.
By the way, we already had choice.

they used to do PR slots via CEO, at least.. there's lot's of these:

i don't think t.cook on the morning show has any actual connection to whether or not he feels the company is innovating.

Well if Phil said "It comes down to one word: Courage.”

And he was referring to Apple's decision...
And Tim is the captain of Apple.....

Then can we call Tim "Captain Courageous"?

Inquiring minds want to know...

headphones can, and will, do more than one thing.. with 3.5mm jack, it can only do one thing..

are you ignoring what i'm saying on purpose? or what?
