Well, if we set aside all the ways in which average Americans are screwed by the government and look at this in a vacuum, an increase in your electric bill of 20% is probably really small compared to the damage done to the environment.

You fail to see that this Paris Agreement wont change the environment, it will just cost Americans more to use energy. The whole thing is basically a way to redistribute wealth from wealthy developed countries to poorer countries. Its a globalist move that isnt in the best interest of Americans and pretending it is because "save the children from global warming" is disingenuous. If you want to save the environment, tell everyone you know to start demanding we get more nuclear power in this country NOW. The Paris agreement is a joke, if the major world powers were actually worried about catastrophic climate change they would be doing much more than "I promise to do something, but no you cant actually hold me accountable"

I, for one, am proud of Tim and Apple for standing up for what is right.

With corporations having more power than governments nowadays, we should all encourage this behavior. The latest iPhones won't matter much on a planet unable to support life.

I just wish we would reframe this. It's not about saving the planet. The planet will be fine. It's 4.5 billion years old, and will be around for billions of years after humans are long gone.

This is about saving humanity, about saving biodiversity and all living things. It's the high order bit. The planet itself will be fine.

United States, Syria, and Nicaragua are the only countries in the world that's not a part of the Paris Agreement

trump is right. we don't know who is actually getting $400 billion dollars. thats too much money. its time to stop American citizens from paying for everything
...FYI a B-2 Bomber costs $2,000,000,000 not including spare parts....when we were attacked on 9-11 none of those profoundly expensive bombers did a damn bit of good. The B-17 that drops the same iron bombs cost tax payers $238,329....the B-2 costs a stunning $1,761,671,000 more that the B-17!!!!!!!!!

He could have just ignored it without consequences, but I think he wanted to send a message. From Vox (a site probably in line with your views): "the Paris agreement is largely symbolic".

I agree it was largely symbolic - but it's a symbolic gesture that over 50% of citizens in every state supported making, and well over 70% of voters supported making as well.

Now, also symbolically, China will be seen as the world leader on addressing climate change and the rest of the world will have further evidence that, symbolically, the US is a has-been country in decline.

This isnt about saving humanity either. This "Paris Agreement" is entirely about redistributing wealth from richer countries to poorer countries and using climate change to get people to agree to it. If the world powers actually thought climate change was a real danger to humanity, they sure as **** wouldnt have made the plan some ******** goal setting with absolutely no accountability. If you want to save the environment by reducing CO2 levels, then you should be demanding we move to nuclear power which could actually solve that problem completely.

Good luck getting the public to accept nuclear power. The word "nuclear" scares people.

This is the saddest day in American politics since the assassination of MLK. If you don't think that, I doubt your sanity.

there's more ways than just this Accord to care for what we've been given. the saddest days were when we could have elected officials still stay in office with substantial evidence of them breaking the law.

What's your point. Global warming research didn't do us any good on 9/11 either.

Thats great and all, I agree we should spend less on military. That doesnt mean we should just give 400 BILLION dollars to countries because they say "we promise to try to do good at buying Elon Musks solar tech". America's infrastructure is crumbling, we need to spend that money at home. The rest of the world wants to keep telling America to **** off, then deal with it when we do.

I will say it again, The Paris Agreement had almost nothing to do with saving the environment, it has everything to do with redistributing global wealth to poor countries with no accountability whatsoever as to how the money will be spent. F that. I want to live on the healthiest planet possible for humankind but this agreement isnt going to accomplish that. I want to see us completely abandon fossil fuels within the next decade. There is only one way to do it and that is nuclear but for some damn reason environmentalists think its better to pretend solar and wind can do the job when it just can't.

If anyone thinks China is the leader of the world on addressing climate change they are complete idiots.

The Paris agreement was nothing but a globalist scheme for transferring wealth from rich nations to poor nations. Nothing more, nothing less. Trump saw right through it and did the right thing. Funny how countries like China and India didn't have to pay one red cent into it, yet could continue emitting unabated. This deal was nonsense.

For all those people having a meltdown over this, especially rich people like Gore, DiCaprio, Musk and Schwarzenegger - put your money where your mouth is and start living a carbon emitting free life as much as possible. Yeah thought so. Hypocrites.

Are you trolling? If the US files for bankruptcy because they are no longer trading with anybody why would debt matter?
Ask you the same question. Your fantasy of Total isolation is beyond rational. Responding is what a forum is about. Trolling by the way, starting a thread with the main focus to incite controversary.

I don't have much to say that I didn't the other day on the other thread about the prospect of Trump pulling out of the agreement, only to add good on Cook for providing at least a little leadership on this within Apple, and saying as much publicly.

I share the criticisms of those saying Apple could still do more to reduce their products' environmental impact (like making machines more upgradable to prolong their lives, as the big example) but I still think they do fairly well overall, and I think it misses the point a little to point to e-waste when we are discussing climate change specifically - of course the two issues are tangentially linked under the umbrella of the environment, but it's carbon emissions that we really need to tackle most urgently IMHO.

People need to change their lifestyles. If you want to help the environment, that's one of the most important things you can do.

I drive a lot less, bought a fuel efficient car, eat less meat (eat less in general), adjust my thermostat, switched my home over to alternative energy (which costs more, but it's worth it), recycle, and stopped buying unnecessary junk.

What alternative energy did you switch your house to? Solar? Did you get a battery pack to store energy? I wish I had that option but I cant afford it and my house is too small, I wouldn't generate much solar from my tiny roof.

Although I have no problems with nuclear power, it's not as good of a solution as sustainable power sources like wind/solar. We should be advocating those first.

I don't really disagree with your sentiment, but I think my point about energy consumption still stands. We use way more energy than comparable populations, especially when you take into account the idiocy of our anti-public transportation population.

You should be scared. It's a liberal world order. There isn't room for people like you in it.

Well thank god that people with that attitude can do little more than type vitriol from the dimly lit basements they call home.

I wonder which color panties he has in a bunch. :D

He needs to focus on running his company and their business on company time. The same thing the US is beginning to do by getting their hands out of cookie jars they didn't and don't belong in to begin with.
