Exactly!!
I've been waiting 3 years for a new Mac mini. There is absolutely no way Lord Jobs would have bungled the Mac in way Timmy has, Jobs was a Mac user and cared about the core users like himself. yes I'm typing this on a 2016 MacBook Pro, however I no longer recommend Macs to friends and relatives.
Exactly. I sold multiple households on Macs, due to the ability to upgrade. It worked out well for years and years. Now I tell the same family/friends to look elsewhere, unless they want to spend TOP dollar. Close to a dozen Macs, almost all to be replaced with PCs, in the not to distant future.

Keep up the bang-up job, Tim.

Sorry Tim, I have moved on. For the first time since 2009, I have purchased a Windows based PC. I have been using MacBook Pros ever since then, but I need a discrete graphics card, and you've now jacked up the prices on MacBook Pros with discrete graphics cards to $2499. I just can't do that. I managed to swing $1999 for the last three MacBook Pros I bought, but I can't go any higher.

Instead, I bought a Dell XPS 15, with a i7-6700HQ Quad Core an SSD and an nVidia GTX 960M, for $1399. I've done it, I've switched back to PC. I'll probably buy an Android for my next phone too, which kills me, but Androids play nicer with Windows. The Pixel XL looks pretty good.

I never would have left the Apple ecosystem if you hadn't made the MacBook Pro a worse laptop for far more money. But I guess you need that money to fund development of new and exciting watch bands.

Just switched myself, built an awesome PC gaming machining with 4k display, not missing my iMac that much.

I sort of feel bad for Apple, because really there haven't been a lot of substantial improvements in CPU tech to speak of, so they're forced to ship random crap.

But aren't other manufacturers limited by CPU tech too?

So how is it that they can ship dozens of new models every year and Apple can't?

It's kinda tough to put the blame on Intel when everyone gets their CPUs from them.

That means Apple's problems and questionable decisions are entirely Apple's doing.

See, the thing is, we WANT to buy new Macs.
I want to buy a new Macbook Pro Retina, but I want function keys, 32GB RAM, and an SSD that isn't soldered on.
Most in this thread want either :
1) A Mac Mini that has a quad core processor and memory that isn't soldered on.
2) A iMac that isn't so thin that it throttles the processor. Really close to no one would decide to take form over the lack of thermal throttling. Also, most think that NVidia would provide a better GPU.
3) Or a Mac Pro that was recently updated, has graphics options, and up-gradable hardware. Until the cylinder form factor, the Mac pro was the member of the lineup that had lots of options, and could be molded to better fit changing workflows over the lifetime of the device.

But lately, consumers have none of that, but they still like their OSX workflows. They are ready to buy, but there is nothing matching what the WANT to buy.

Personally, again, my main complaint is with the Macbook Pro Retina. Hackintoshes more sense to me than waiting for Apple to release something that they appear to have moved away from.
How much more complaining on these forums is required for each of your items to be resolved?

That's not how it works. Proper tool for the job. If a Mac is the proper tool, then buy one. If a Mac is not the proper tool for the job, look elsewhere. There, problem solved and you didn't waste your time.. and you don't have unnecessary stress affecting everything else in your life.

Many problems wouldn't exist if people simply learned to not give power to that which is undeserving - what we tolerate, we perpetuate.

So why are you still here? Quit wasting your time complaining about our valid criticsms of apple.

If you like thin, you like laptop parts in desktops and sparkly saturated screen you'll love the
Apple Desktops! and for the rest of us...

Apple, just another company.

They had better hurry if they want my money. I upgrade my desktop every 5-6 years, and am planning my next upgrade for this spring with kaby lake, or skylake, 32gb ddr4, nvme m.2 ultra drive, gtx 1070 mini in a mini-itx form factor, with a 1440 ultrawide monitor running linux and hopefully macOS not too long after.

I think that a lot of people are looking to upgrade soon with 4k, vr, and ultrawide being the driving reason. The gtx 10 series, and soon zen making it a good time to upgrade around tax season.

What are your thoughts about the state of the Macs? Mine- Dire need of an upgrade. My personal pipe dream is a user upgrade capable machine. What would you like to see? Me - a new more powerful mac mini that I have been moaning about for over 2 years it seems. I seriously doubt I'll get it, but hey, at least it relates to the damn topic. amirite?

Complaining about someone else's negative opinions while only contributing negative opinions yourself... well that's just a bunch of pots thinking the color of the kettles is ugly. Spoiler alert: they both are.
I happen to love my Mac mini's, so much so that I plan to buy a newer one. If they didn't work for my needs, then I would look elsewhere.

What would I like to see? It would be a waste of time to make such a statement, given that Apple doesn't use these forums as feature requests. So, if the machine doesn't work for my needs, then perhaps my needs should change. We must be flexible enough to bend.. lest we risk breaking in the slightest breeze.

Please accept my apologies.. but some of us are getting tired of the whining. It happens after every release and it's getting old.

In a post to an employee message board obtained by TechCrunch, Apple CEO Tim Cook assured employees that the company is still committed to the Mac and that "great desktops" are coming. Apple's desktop computers haven't seen an upgrade in at least 433 days.

imac-800x457.png

Cook says that the desktop is "very strategic" to Apple because the performance desktops can provide is "really important" to a lot of people and "critical" for some people. He says the current iMac is the best desktop Apple's ever made and its 5K display is the best desktop display in the world.

In regards to its future roadmap and how Apple employees can help push the company forward, Cook says that "you can rarely see precisely where you want to go from the beginning." Instead, Cook argues that "pulling strings" to see what's coming next is one of Apple's strengths, noting that the creation of Apple Watch led to the creation of ResearchKit, which lead to the creation of CareKit. Cook concludes the post by saying the company doesn't do things for a return on investment, it explores new things because it's exciting and might lead somewhere.

The lack of refreshed Mac hardware can be attributed to a combination of Apple waiting on chipmakers and suppliers to ship their new products and the Cupertino Company's renewed focus on iPad.

Apple's desktop Macs haven't seen upgrades in over a year. The iMac's last update was 433 days ago, the Mac Mini's last update was 795 days ago and the Mac Pro's last update was 1,097 days ago.

And this will happen .... when ... ?

Here's how it actually works: People not only buy a computer, they buy software, they pile up loads of projects with that software. They build their workflow around a particular OS. No one really wants to migrate to another ecosystem, especially when the company that makes the one they've liked (Apple/Mac) has promised new and bold machines (I'm speaking of the Mac Pro mainly) for them to continue using said ecosystem. When these machines are left to languish with barely an update in years and still priced heavily, it's not like someone will just go elsewhere at the drop of a hat. They bought into an operating system and the machines they were promised have not been developed. So, complaining is perfectly right and natural.

There is the root of the problem.. expectations of the future and feelings of entitlement. If you create your own storms, don't get upset when it rains.

Since that's clearly not going to happen, why not just move on with your life and buy a Dell/Sanyo/Lenovo/whatever and find some happiness?

Something, something, MacOS, something... :)

But seriously... it's threads like these that make me glad I never got bitten by the Mac bug.

I've never owned a Mac... so maybe I'm missing out. Then again... I'd hate to be chained to ONE manufacturer who makes questionable decisions regarding the hardware they want us to buy.

And I'm just one guy. Imagine a company whose purchasing department has place $10,000+ orders to Apple. It's got to be getting harder every day.

I've been saying this for months now: if you think Apple is done making desktops, you're insane. The internal need for them alone would prevent this from ever happening. Until the day where everyone at Apple can get their work done on an iPad Pro arrives, the Mac ain't going anywhere. I think some form of AR will likely supplant the need for all screens before this ever happens.
