This definitely takes me a beat longer to read…and I have 20/15 vision…

While I do value form and design, if the function isn’t there, what is the point!

I can go out and buy a lovely piece of art if all I wanted was something that looked nice.

Um, this is unreadable. At this point, I think Apple needs to make this a slider feature. Reading the comments from the last few betas, there is no agreement on what people think is great here. If you want to read your windows, slide it to a lower setting. If you like the liquid effect, slide it back to increase the effect.

This. I hate hate HATE the recent trend of people doing "after/before", it's confusing.
Not to say that’s what’s going on here, but while running ‘round these here internets, I’ve seen content makers misspell words, intentionally post vids with incorrect LUTS, mangle an easily pronounceable word, etc. JUST so people will engage with the content thus viewing the ads.

I'm sure there's some way to adjust this so all should be ok, but in these examples I have to take an extra second or so to really see the time and likely the other controls. But I know when they had it more opaque others didn't like it so clearly some control is needed.
You can still set the time to use a solid color instead of translucent.

Perhaps this is a silly idea....

But could not Transparency be like a volume control?

By default, let's say Apple sets the transparency effects at perhaps 50% and as a user you can adjust this slider up/down to your preference.

If you wanted to give the user an even finer control, you could allow the user to set it on an app by app basis.

That way everyone is happy, and everyone has control over how it looks.

Is that too easy/obvious?
A developer is going to have to verify this, but to me, having two options, one that is the default and one that is a known specific alternative that works a specific way would be an easier target to hit when designing my app interface. Giving users the ability to define parts of the UI with a widely configurable transparency set could cause a bit of a headache.

This also helps developers that are working on their new UI’s as several apps I use convert the UI to Liquid Glass as it’s a known quantity. That allows the developer to present a functional working UI as they work on how they specifically want to present their UI in Liquid Glass.

Maybe they should finally relent and let us show and hide whichever elements we want to from the Lock Screen and the Menu Bar.

Hate seeing the time in the middle of the night. Ended up creating a bizarre Jackson Pollock type wallpaper to hide it, but it only sort of works.

Given the mess they’ve making of the visual interface, they should just let us turn on or off which effects are used and which elements are displayed.
This should be perfect for you, then, because folks earlier in the thread have mentioned that it’ll be unreadable by default! :)

I fear this whole design is a failure and Apple is heading into a dead end. Much too complex to manage properly. As much as I love the idea, it might make sense in specific situations but not for the whole OS. Apple tried translucent UIs with Aqua (translucent menus) and quickly reverted back. Unreadable text and blurry UI just doesn't make sense.
“Quickly” is what to you?

Mac OS X 10.0 to OS X 10.10 Yosemite spans 13 years of Aqua interface.

Does anyone know of a source for the cool wallpaper at the top of the article?

cool now make it consistent across apps and operating systems

You mean how the transparent app icons are frosted and the transparent folders are liquid glass? Just pick one, Apple. Both on the screen simultaneously really just looks... wrong. Or, if there's just too much love for each from different quarters to pick just one, give us a toggle to pick one ourselves.

YOU GO LIQUID GLASS!!!!

FROSTED won't win!
Fancy that... I'm not the only one who noticed.

The long path to functional and aesthetic glass UI design is littered with bodies. Many attempt it, but few, if any, master it.

It seemed to finally work in Vision OS, but judging by the results, the Apple desing team didn't "crack" it in a 2d environment.

It looks worse!!!! Can't they just leave well enough alone? I wonder how the general public will react to this "transparent" interface.
Some people will like it, but some people will hate it. Nonetheless, you can't have a polarizing UI, and they're going to have to error on the side of more opaque/muddy.

I'm glad Apple isn't backing down. They will probably continue to tweak it throughout the whole iOS 26 cycle.
