Ever heard of something called inflation? It’s not like anyone can buy things at the same price as 3-5 years ago. Including when Apple buys batteries.
There's inflation and then there's price gouging. This would probably be a case of both.

High skilled labor. lolThere's all kinds of additional costs, in addition to employing the high-skilled labor required to safely replace and dispose of the old battery.
By design / working as intended for Apple.I think it is safe to say that $100 for a mobile phone battery replacement is a total rip off for the consumer and represents, more than anything, a failure in Apple design to allow the customer to change their battery without professional assistance.
My 12 mini has been stuck at 84% for months, but I know it’s a lot worse than that because it drains from 100% to 35% in under three hours.Has anyone else noticed that the battery health, as reported by the Settings app, degrades steadily for a couple of years but then slows/stops at around 81 or 82%? Seems to have happened for both the iPhones I've used in recent years.

Pricing is irrelevant? Do you think only the Kardashians of this world are buying Apple products?
Don't they keep the prices per generation of the product?Don't worry, it'll be even higher by the time you actually need to change battery on the iPhone 14 (1-2 years later).![]()
I was just being facetiousDon't they keep the prices per generation of the product?
Hold on, I thought a battery replacement for an EV was 5k+?$99?! That’s almost as much as a battery replacement for my EV! 🧐
How much to do the battery replacement myself with genuine parts?
Was that the day after your warranty expired?Yep mine has remained at 82% for over a year.
Then one day BAM! I restore my iPhone and battery health states 73%
I'm not trying to "show" anyone anything. That'll show them!!! Oh wait....
Welcome to the last 60 years.. lol.And here I just got a super generous 2.5% raise.
Forgot bout that .you are rightThey drop prices on repairs all the time for older models.
We will see what happens when the time comes for you to buy a new deviceNah. I actually came to a realization a couple of days ago that I can probably do without a Mac (after being an owner of it for 12 years now). Just got the MacBook Air M2 but I think this will be my last one. The ecosystem is nice but my need for the total integration is not as much as I thought I need. I’ll stick with the phone, butt the rest I can do without.

After 12 years yes. Also had I not missed the cut off day by two days I would’ve returned the MacBook Air.We will see what happens when the time comes for you to buy a new device
For now you Still bought the latest Mac from apple
i wasn’t being mesn or anything btw . Yeah right but you still buy from apple nonethelessAfter 12 years yes. Also had I not missed the cut off day by two days I would’ve returned the MacBook Air.
That could be a function of battery chemistry.Has anyone else noticed that the battery health, as reported by the Settings app, degrades steadily for a couple of years but then slows/stops at around 81 or 82%? Seems to have happened for both the iPhones I've used in recent years.
No problem. I was writing in slight regret that’s all. Nothing against what you said at all. I just am a big tinker so windows serves better (when I have time to eventually get back to it). I realized that most everyone I know which isn’t that many to start with are not on imesssge (anyone out of US are on either WhatsApp or telegram or signal), mostly use iMessage with the wife. Photos are nice, but honestly my phone does a good job with it. With the advancement of cloud storage integration comes easier for sure.i wasn’t being mesn or anything btw . Yeah right but you still buy from apple nonetheless
Congrats for keeping it for so long tbh
You could still try to call them and ask ,they are ok with returning within a month usually ,if you ask for it
This is what happened with mine. Stays at 80% or so and once it drops into mid 70s, high 60s, it will nose dive into the 50s and the battery becomes unusable (barely lasts 1hour, etc)Has anyone else noticed that the battery health, as reported by the Settings app, degrades steadily for a couple of years but then slows/stops at around 81 or 82%?
