Ever heard of something called inflation? It’s not like anyone can buy things at the same price as 3-5 years ago. Including when Apple buys batteries.

There's inflation and then there's price gouging. This would probably be a case of both.

Didn’t the whole batterygate issue force apple to drop battery replacement prices to super cheap? They lost money for years over that. When they raised it up they kept it at a reasonable price all things considered. Moving back to $99 is back in line with other repair prices. Apple Watch is $79, so phone should be more considering battery so much bigger. Not saying I like it that they raised their prices but not surprised.

I think it is safe to say that $100 for a mobile phone battery replacement is a total rip off for the consumer and represents, more than anything, a failure in Apple design to allow the customer to change their battery without professional assistance.
By design / working as intended for Apple.

Has anyone else noticed that the battery health, as reported by the Settings app, degrades steadily for a couple of years but then slows/stops at around 81 or 82%? Seems to have happened for both the iPhones I've used in recent years.
My 12 mini has been stuck at 84% for months, but I know it’s a lot worse than that because it drains from 100% to 35% in under three hours.

There's all kinds of additional costs, in addition to employing the high-skilled labor required to safely replace and dispose of the old battery.

Yep. For sure on that. No doubt many here who whine about Apple wages believe the techs who do this should not be entitled to raises and benefits other Apple employees receive.

I think they mean whole iPhone replacement, because that's what they actually do.

Don't worry, it'll be even higher by the time you actually need to change battery on the iPhone 14 (1-2 years later). ;)

Nah. I actually came to a realization a couple of days ago that I can probably do without a Mac (after being an owner of it for 12 years now). Just got the MacBook Air M2 but I think this will be my last one. The ecosystem is nice but my need for the total integration is not as much as I thought I need. I’ll stick with the phone, butt the rest I can do without.
We will see what happens when the time comes for you to buy a new device

For now you Still bought the latest Mac from apple

Of course. Unless one believes Apple employees should not get raises and increased benefits over time.

After 12 years yes. Also had I not missed the cut off day by two days I would’ve returned the MacBook Air.

Congrats for keeping it for so long tbh

You could still try to call them and ask ,they are ok with returning within a month usually ,if you ask for it

That could be a function of battery chemistry.

No problem. I was writing in slight regret that’s all. Nothing against what you said at all. I just am a big tinker so windows serves better (when I have time to eventually get back to it). I realized that most everyone I know which isn’t that many to start with are not on imesssge (anyone out of US are on either WhatsApp or telegram or signal), mostly use iMessage with the wife. Photos are nice, but honestly my phone does a good job with it. With the advancement of cloud storage integration comes easier for sure.

Don’t get me wrong the Air is an amazing machine with great built quality.

This is what happened with mine. Stays at 80% or so and once it drops into mid 70s, high 60s, it will nose dive into the 50s and the battery becomes unusable (barely lasts 1hour, etc)
