I don't see why it would be so prohibitive for them (both Apple AND AT&T) to have a massive amount of servers to be able to handle the rush. Sure it'd be a waste for most of the year, but the frustration faced by me and EVERYONE else yesterday was ridiculous for a 4th year in a row now! I haven't heard of one story where the person was able to order smoothly and/or quickly.
Now here's a question, would Verizon be able to handle this amount of load on a single day?

wooah that's an impressive figure.7 iPhones per second (assuming a 24-hour period). That's crazy!
I don't know why the 3GS launch would be the standard of comparison. The 3GS was a relatively small incremental upgrade to the 3G (small enough to me that I still have the 3G). The 4 is a much larger incremental upgrade.
I also wonder how much of the fever is really due to anticipated iOS4 improvements (multitasking, especially) that will be available to users before the iPhone 4 is even on the street.
Or maybe everyone is really hot to have a gyro in their pocket.![]()
I hope they have plenty on hand for the people who prefer to wait in line on launch day.![]()
So what's going to happen next Thursday when all of these iPhones are officially activated?
I think its pretty obvious what happened to the white iPhone.
Before they started mass production, one of their analysts probably said "Uh lookie here, we're going to sell a ton of these on launch day." Obviously they sell more black than white, so they probably shifted to producing all black so that they could handle the demand. They can only make so many of these things at a time.
Judging by the sheer volume they presold they probably made a wise choice.
After reading the boards on the new data plans and how they would hinder everyone, the fact it is STILL tied only to ATT, on the new phone specs (EVO did it first!!!), on the things the new iPhone "just can't do", I figured I'd be able to walk into an ATT store on launch day, buy a handful of these turds, and walk out in 10 minutes. There goes that planOnce again showing how a vocal minority can skew perception on the web as to a products success.
So what's going to happen next Thursday when all of these iPhones are officially activated?
Don't forget this is world wide. Not 600,000 iPhones on AT&T servers.
I wanna know how many were sold in the US
