I just had the most ridiculous experience trying to pick up an iPhone 7+ I reserved earlier today.

I showed up at my reservation time, the woman scanned my QR code, and my reservation kept coming up as canceled. I was wondering if I was going to have issues since I didn't cancel my Verizon preorder beforehand. I figured it would give me activation issues and I would cancel it once I had the phone in my hand - it didn't even cross my mind that Apple would cancel my reservation without even notifying me.

So another woman walks over and starts interrogating me about how I placed the reservation. I said that I did it through the website, and she asked to see my email. I showed it to her, and she goes "it says that this email has been modified. I don't believe you placed this reservation." I go..it says the email has been modified to fit the screen..aka everything is sized down. Yeah, lady. I hacked into your system and faked a reservation. They looked in the back and my order was gone. She goes "well, that's because your carrier owns you. That's sucks, because we would've liked you on IUP..." very sarcastically.

I've never been treated like that at any store I've ever been to. There's no way in hell I'm going back there, even if they do have stock again soon. I will cancel my Verizon preorder and look around to see when they get stock or other stores, but that experience completely turned me away from joining IUP.

Just to add my experience at the Apple Store in Boston today, I reserved the plus I wanted (128 gold)and wanted to upgrade via my next upgrade to only be flat out told that i couldn't and that IUP customers have a 'vip' preference for getting new iPhones, to which I was a bit surprised because if it was advertised as such - I'm sure more people would consider joining it for that reason alone. I wish I had seen that in the confirmation email it says you can also upgrade via carrier financing or pay in full, I would've just showed her that. Maybe I'll try tomorrow and show them the email if the same thing happens to me, I was severely deflated:/
Had the same problem. I argued and eventually they let me purchase the phone outright.

Whoa that's some disgusting behavior you got from these employees, which Apple Store was this at? I would report them to the manager if they actually talked that way to you, a customer that had a legit reservation to buy a product. I'd say try a different Apple Store in your area

Im in the US end of this week and want to give it a try as well.

So if I understand it right, I can try to make a reservation at 12:01 (for east coast). Thats the time when to inventory is updated.

Can you only order 1, or also 2 devices per reservation? And doesnt it ask for any details regarding IUP?

I tried to do it, however I am not able to make a reservation.

FYI: Last night I went to an Apple Store and the girl helping me actually interrogated me a bit and asked me how I got the reservation if I was not doing IUP. Me being an honest person said I was pointed in the right direction on an Apple forum I participate in, and she then said you're exposing a loophole in our system and you don't qualify for purchasing the phone and was turned away. I didn't make a scene so I just left.

This morning I was able to reserve another 7 plus for pickup at a store further away but I want to make sure I'm successful this time. I have verizon and I qualify for 2 year contract pricing. Should I be successful in doing this and have others received the subsidized 2 year contract pricing by using the IUP link?

Thanks!
I was successful but had to argue for the IUP phone. Since an Apple store employee gave me the IUP link on Friday and told me to reserve through there, that was my argument. At first they refused to sell it to me and argued that it was impossible to sell it because their system would not allow it.... eventually they put the phone on hold, then were able to sell it to me.

Most people on this thread haven't had issues, but some, like me were refused the purchase at first.

sorry if this was asked but is it possible to get an IUP T-Mobile phone say in rose red and then immediately exchange that for ATT black?

I made a reservation online and bought a phone today. Went to open it and realized it was a returned phone (wrapper came off way too easy, bubbles under the phone's plastic film, activated service, and a strand of HAIR).

So you may want open your new phones in the store or examine the packaging to make sure it is new. I returned it to the store obviously. Whoever returned that phone can have their damn hair back and I won't lose any sleep if they spontaneously combust. Cmon karma.

What? Just order the phone you want so you don't have to return anything. You sound like the type of person who would leave a hair in the box.

It was the Apple Store at Crocker Park in West Lake, Ohio - Cleveland area. I was definitely annoyed that I didn't receive some sort of email about my reservation cancellation (she said it's probably in the fine print somewhere - who knows, maybe it is), but the way I was treated made it one-hundred times worse. Absolutely ridiculous.

I received the same behavior at a Apple Store but in Washington DC. I was treated like someone doing something wrong. At the end of the day, I got my phone (256 Matte Black iPhone 7+) but a horrible experience. Are we doing something wrong?

found a 7+ using istocknow.com...made a reservation using the iPhone program web site...picked up the iPhone and paid full price with no AppleCare..painless and easy

i don't think we're on the same page. my problem is that you can not buy a fully unlocked world (without some trickery) phone on the apple upgrade program. ever. iphone 6s plus sim free is not purchasable through the upgrade program to my knowledge. iphone 7 sim free won't either if that's the case.
What do you mean by fully unlocked world phone? Can't I buy a Verizon phone paying full price and without service activation and use it on another carrier outside the US?

They're talking about doing this via the IUP program. You have to activate it on a carrier through the IUP.

So how exactly does att see this on their end if I'll be charged a activation fee & using my number on my plan that's currently on a ATT next installment. I get the activation waived anyway via my fiancé works for Amex a affiliation on our upgrades.

But I currently have a 6s plus on a monthly payment plan via ATT next. Obviously if I chose ATT next via Apple for my number it only allows me to buy the phone outright.

But if I chose the iPhone upgrade program I can do the monthly payments with that same number. So does att see it as a unlocked phone? I ask this because I plan to sell my 6splus on eBay & use that money to pay off the balance for the 6s & use the iPhone upgrade plan via citizens loan to get my 7 plus.

That sucks, the guys who helped me never asked me about it, he did ask me if I was going to be trading in my old phone. I just said I plan on buying the device outright. He was fine with it. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. What a pleasant experience.

Maybe you should have approached differently in responding to her by probably saying "I was going to set up iUP as a new customer when I placed reservation for this phone, but I had a change of heart and decided to not go with it and pay it in full price" Maybe that might have changed it??

Yes, we are exploiting their loophole to reserve phone that is supposed for people participating/paying for apple upgrade program.

don't come to Apple store and speak loudly that you have every right to reserve a phone. Technically, apple system should have checked for membership before allowing reservation.

I did reserve and apple employed questioned and refused to let me use AT&T Next. I kept it low profile and insist that I want Next. He went to check with his manager and finally gave me the phone using AT&T Next.

if this loophole get popular, either apple will close it or Apple employees will be notified to refuse reservation.

I live by there and I will not step foot into Crocker park Apple Store. Terrible service and unfriendly staff there, I always go to Eton now!

Clearly when you get the reservation confirmation page on the bottom it states

So technically yes, you could reserved it with the intent of using iUP and later have a change of heart and decide to either pay in full price or carrier financing.

I would call corporate if you have time I called on Crocker park and let me tell you they took care of it, but never again will I give Crocker any business

I have no idea what you meant by that. But in IUP you have to go to store to get a new phone (T-Mobile.) The only phone my local stores have in stock in rose red.

Soni was wondering if I can get a rose red since it has five activates with T-Mobile and then switch it with ATT phone?

you are missing the context. that link was meant for apple upgrade, and they should have verified membership before allowing reservation. hence it is a loophole for us for this short period until they fix it.

as an apple upgrade member, of course they can reserve and pay however they want. that is what you quoted.

Definitely a lesson learned! I've always gone to Eton too and that was my first time going to Crocker Park. I will never step foot in there again.

Did you have to log in when reserving it? What did they ask when you picked it up, did you tell them you are just paying full price, did they ask for your cell carrier info?
