256 GB 7+ reserved! 2nd day in a row I have to drive 1 hour + for a phone, obviously, it didn't work out yesterday...

I had preordered on Verizon at 4AM EST on 9/9 and as of Monday morning still no movement, so I said screw it. Reserved the phone I wanted, 128gb MB+ at midnight Sunday. I was getting off work at 8AM, cancelled my preorder, and drove 1 hour+ to the Apple store that had it. Got there a little early, I'll stop at DD and get a coffee. Where is my wallet?! Crap! I know the card by heart, no worries I'm sure they'll be cool. Guy brings my box out, starts processing, asks for ID. Shiiiiiiiiit. Hey man, I left my wallet in my pants in my locker at work, can I have the guys send me a pic of it? Sure, he says, but manager says no. Soooooo deflated. Long drive home, pissed at myself. Never left my wallet at work in 6+ years. I'm not gonna get this thing for a month!

Didn't need the 256, might return it when they get 128's in stock locally, but happy to finally be getting my phone a week after I expected it and after that ordeal yesterday, as long as I don't forget my damn wallet!

I was looking for a reservation at Whitehall as well, oh well better luck tomorrow night

They had a 128gb matte black and a 32gb on Saturday morning at 10am. I stalled and it cost me lol. I had to familiar myself with the iPhone upgrade program more since I'm just used to the ATT next program.

OK, So, I just held a Verizon 7+ BLACK 128GB. I am a T-Mobile customer. While I have read I can buy outright, pop in the T-Mobile sim and get on with it, can I join the apple upgrade program with this phone but as a T-Mobile customer if I want to ?. If not I can buy in full, but I'd prefer to get on the upgrade program. There is clearly a shortfall of what I want in the NYC area on T-Mobile - Thanks in advance

Damn I wish I would have known that, the 128 is the exact one I am looking for.

So I reserved a 7+ 128 in Black, but it's 3 hours away which is fine with me. The only thing I'm afraid of is if I get there and they do not have the phone. If I got a reservation, is the phone confirmed to be in stock ?

You could use applepay to pay for the phone no? If you had your card number and exp and seccode memorized you could just enter that into Apple Pay.

As for the ID, if you knew your Verizon credentials I don't understand why...it's not like you're signing a two year contract right? You're paying for your phone full price right? Could have activate it yourself later even and walk out without an activated line of security means that much.

I remember one year I had gone in to purchase my iPhone. I didn't have my ID so they wouldn't accept cc, that's fine. I pulled the cash out (my friend works at the bank I bank so they could help me grab it without ID) and went back.

The specialist still claimed to need an ID but if I'm buying it outright, wth, why??

I asked him that and I guess it stumped him enough to let me walk out with my iPhone.

Posted my story on Reddit but thought I'd share here:

The hard facts:
- IUP Reservation Link
- Reservation E-Mail confirmation time: 12:06AM 9/18/16 PDT
- Pick-Up Time: 4:30-5:00PM
- Selected Store: Berkeley, CA
- Selected Phone: 7+/Black/128gb/AT&T
- Purchase type: Full Purchase Price (Buy Outright)

Conclusion:
- Reservation not honored
- Ended up with different phone
- IUP Link + reservation does not guarantee phone if your Apple Store plays by the rules.

I saw the 128gb Black phone available for pickup with a green "tomorrow" sign on the page so I knew I could reserve it when the stock went live around a little past 12:01am.

I got my reservation for 4:30PM and after a night's rest and some errands I drove in 1.5hours of rush hour traffic to one of the only Apple Store in California who had this phone.

When I got there the specialist showed me the screen that said "Start Trade-IN" and notified me that I had to purchase the phone through the iPhone Upgrade Program. The phone I had reserved was the 128gb Black iPhone Plus.

She spoke to the manager for a bit, and came back to me telling me that they could and would not perform a transaction without me trading in my phone. According to them their system would have no way to process it.

I asked if I could speak to the manager and he basically told me no. In fact, he told me the phone wasn't physically in the store! After clarifying things and expressing my disappointment, he offered to take my contact info down and notify me of stock.

I kindly refused and told him it made no sense that the phone was not physically there because if I did happen to check-in as an IUP customer (since they don't confirm this online!) then that would mean they would tell me the same thing and that they had screwed up for an actual iUP customer.

After clarifying things again, he decided to offer to sell me another phone they had in stock (7+ Black 256GB) that wasn't listed as in stock online. According to them, it's a back-up unit in case other people's paid phones were faulty or something.

I ended up just getting this one plus a free case since they seemed nice about it. Oh and I bought a Sprint phone even though I'm AT&T since they said it would be compatible and since I was paying full purchase price. They tested the SIM before I walked out.

It wasn't the experience I was hoping for, but they still sold me a phone in the color I wanted and I got it a few weeks early.

tldr; My Apple Store didn't honor the reservation for non-IUP purchase. Bought a 256gb 7 Plus instead and they threw in a free case.

That's awful seems like you were bullied into a device that you didn't want.. it sucks that there isn't consistency across the board with these stores some people like myself had awesome experiences and others not so much....

Only works if you buy it outright in full since it has to be unlocked.

Yeah so you're trying to do the Upgrade program!? Yeah someone had found a loophole with this yesterday but it seemed Uber complicated but he got his phone and everything worked out

im still trying for NYC stores, but keep getting "service currently unavailable"

When are getting this error!? Are u logged in!? I got the same error after reserving but I did get the email for my reservation.
